Storm Ciarán

This is an early heads up.

Models have consistently been bringing in a deep low pressure for sometime over Wed/Thurs. As is often the case, details are yet to be nailed down, but some of the models are producing some severe gusts - southern coastal winds of up to 90mph and more widespread inland winds of around 60mph. With storms, comes rain too unfortunately. A wobble in the track could take them further north or, keep it all in France. Exactly when and where the low pressure develops will make a big difference in the outcome. More details to follow.

If the storm is named, it will be Storm Ciaran. At that point I'll ask MNHQ to change the title appropriately.

Someone on my estate is letting off fireworks

Lovemycat2023 · 01/11/2023 22:38

As a reminder for those worrying about losing power - you might also lose your water supply so worth filling up drinking containers etc in advance. The water companies don’t have to provide supplies for the first 24 hours, but if you are vulnerable worth registering with their priority register. You can also do that with other utility companies.

Starting to get wild here in south Devon.
Local media reporting an unattended car being washed into the sea in sidmouth.

I'm a self employed carer and debating cancelling care calls in the morning. All clients are self reliant enough to manage a morning without care.

The bins are cancelled in some areas aren't they? And lollipop ladies. When they cancel the bins you know it's serious.

@Swimbikerunmummy I’m in Guernsey. I’m more concerned than DH. It sounds horrible outside. We’ve moved everything from outside into the shed, tried to move cars towards house and shed. Charged as much as we can. Tried to get a little more food than usual. Not sure what else to do.

Hope you are ok and stay safe. I have family in Guernsey who have unfortunately currently got scaffolding up around their house so hoping it holds steady overnight. How is it at the moment?

billycat321 · 01/11/2023 22:41

I've filled some sandbags just in case

Wow what a second world shithole we have become.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/11/2023 22:41

I forgot to say, don't be surprised if you have thunderstorms mixed into this overnight.

Lots of schools closed in Devon and winds getting noisy!

FoleyHuck · 01/11/2023 22:44

Which parish are you in @Sideorderofchips? We're west of town, high up and exposed Sad

YesitsBess · 01/11/2023 22:44

It's definitely kicking off here in Chichester. Massive sycamore outside is being knocked about like a sapling and it is very loud.

Cornwallsfaveflappyj · 01/11/2023 22:31

cornwalllive probably has reporters out there by the sea reporting that people are taking photos near the sea.

Thats right. Our local news outlet is absolutely shit and it's embarrassing

Honestly works well alongside our council who only actived emergency procedures for the homeless this afternoon.

KenAdams · 01/11/2023 22:45

Where are you all watching the Jersey footage?

Absolutely nothing you can do about people born stupid!

needtonamechangeforthis1 · 01/11/2023 22:48

@verdantverdure to be honest our bin collection is so random and irregular here these days that it's not really a reliable indicator! 🤣

Devongal1982 · 01/11/2023 22:48

No power here in North Devon

Lovemycat2023 · 01/11/2023 22:48

Papillon23 · 01/11/2023 22:47

They have to provide the bottled water as soon as possible for unplanned outages but within 24 hours (source: Ofwat) so it’s sometimes much sooner but not always especially if it’s a big outage and conditions for transport are difficult.

JenniferBooth · 01/11/2023 22:49

Very hygenic for those of us with bowel issues

Isn't that kilometres per hour?

135kph = 83 mph approx

Havanawinter · 01/11/2023 22:50

I’m near Swindon and the wind is really picking up here. A tile just fell off our roof, shit!

I'm Highlands way on top of the hill

AskASillyQuestion101 · 01/11/2023 22:52

Getting wild in Gorey (Jersey) now. I remember 1987. It's not that bad (yet) but it's bad enough - and the worst isn't supposed to hit us until overnight.

I just hope no one will be stupid enough to go and stand on the sea wall anywhere here or in the UK tonight...

Did you see the whole picture? 166kph.
