The Met Office have issued a very widespread thunderstorm warning for Sunday. The coverage of the warning reflects uncertainty as to where storms will crop up. Not everywhere will see storms of course.

Main risk: torrential rain.

This weekend marks a transition to unsettled, but generally very warm period, with muggy nights, but temperatures lower than they have been. Further rainy periods and perhaps storms are expected.

Tomorrow looks potentially nasty tomorrow. While many won't see anything, once again other places could see torrential rain, with associated flooding. The Met Office are warning of up to 80mm. Little update on location, though perhaps leaning towards the eastern side of the country, away from the south coast for the very worst of it. But do keep an eye on updates.

A reminder, if you are out and about in the outdoors, the only safe place when you hear thunder is indoors. You can get lightning detector apps that warn of close by storms, but don't rely on them.

kitsuneghost · 17/06/2023 20:39

I do hope so. It was horrid here this afternoon. Really claggy

justasking111 · 17/06/2023 20:52

Suddenly rumbling down the valley of thunder, about 2 minutes of heavy rain and it's gone 🤷

OhYouBadBadKitten · 17/06/2023 21:41

Perhaps a rumbly night for some in the south depending on whether the channel storms make it across.

Another weekend, another thunderstorm watch issued.

I would love it to rain, but also want it cool down, the forecast doesn't look promising.

beenrumbled · 18/06/2023 07:50

Incredible thunder and lightning in Manchester from about 2.30am. Followed by torrential rain and everything is still wet now!

Tbe storm lasted about 30-45 minutes

InMySpareTime · 18/06/2023 07:52

@beenrumbled I woke up for the storm, it was great not having to water the garden, and my penultimate water butt is almost full.
It was drying up at 6 but there was another shower here so that's wet everything again.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 18/06/2023 08:22

It does look like Manchester had a fun night. You guys get all the weather recently!

In terms of today, the main risk is still for torrential rain. While there is a chance that some storms will build in the SE after lunch, the area of greatest concern seems to be into the Midlands and northern England.

Massive storm and exceptionally intense rain about 1.30 last night in Cheshire. Got up to look after the poor dog, who is terrified of thunder. We’ve had a few heavy storms in our time but this lot seem unusually intense.

beenrumbled · 18/06/2023 08:45

@InMySpareTime I think this side missed the 6am shower!

I'm glad we trimmed the garden hedges yesterday - they seem to have sprouted again over night thanks to the rain!

justasking111 · 18/06/2023 09:14

Was up till 1am with the dog. Left the bedroom door open in case he got scared again 😁 thankfully the storm moved on. It's so steamy outside this morning phew.

BeggyMitchell · 18/06/2023 09:15

Thanks for the link from the other thread OP. In my defence I was genuinely half-asleep when I first posted Grin.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 18/06/2023 09:30

No problem Beggy!

Check-in in. East Anglia here, we had a short sharp downpour at about 10pm last night but nothing else. Looking at the projections we might be on the far easterly side of where the storms are expected this afternoon, my app is saying 30% chance of rain from 4pm on.

We will see.

ListenLinda · 18/06/2023 10:12

It feels much less muggy today. Garden has dried up after the rain overnight. More rain forecast this afternoon though.

beenrumbled · 18/06/2023 10:17

Just been out for a walk - grey and muggy in Manchester, but it is cooler than the last few days.

A few spots of rain around, not enough to matter at all - (was out with just a t-shirt on) - but it feels like more is on the way.

ScottBakula · 18/06/2023 11:30

Checking in , thanks for the new thread@OhYouBadBadKitten .
The storm in Manchester in the early hours this morning was spectacular.
It's a bit fresher feeling now thankfully.

Lonelycrab · 18/06/2023 11:35

Really need some rain here at the top of Hampshire. Had a light sprinkling last night about 8pm but didn’t really amount to anything. Got the live lightning map on another tab but nothing happening yet, it’s all in N France.

A reminder, if you are out and about in the outdoors, the only safe place when you hear thunder is indoors

Youre safe inside your car too, I believe.

PuppyMonkey · 18/06/2023 11:38

Fantastic storm about 4am-5am in Derbyshire (near the Nottingham border). Really loud thunder and lots and lots of rain. Cat hid in spare room. Dog slept through it. Grin

GloriaSmud · 18/06/2023 11:40

Warm and muggy here (Leicester) Metoffice are giving from 4pm for the possibility of storms here.

RiseYpres · 18/06/2023 11:47

Checking in .... Hampshire here.

Qilin · 18/06/2023 11:58

Was woken up with some very loud thunder in the early hours - in Sheffield, on the edge of Sheffield/Derbyshire border, heading towards Manchester way.

Only saw a couple of flashes but when the thunder came it was very loud, rumbled on for ages each time. Accompanied by some incredibly heavy rain.

Has all cleared up this morning.

The Met Office have created a new warning for Northern Ireland and southern Scotland.
https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/warnings-and-advice/uk-warnings#?id=7fbed77a-dae0-4693-8a24-12c349657221&date=2023-06-18

Theyve not adjusted the warning across England.

Storms in northern France may inhibit storm development in southern coastal counties I think.
