The Met Office have issued a very widespread thunderstorm warning for Sunday. The coverage of the warning reflects uncertainty as to where storms will crop up. Not everywhere will see storms of course.

Main risk: torrential rain.

This weekend marks a transition to unsettled, but generally very warm period, with muggy nights, but temperatures lower than they have been. Further rainy periods and perhaps storms are expected.

As soon as there's the slightest mention of an approaching storm I get totally obsessed with this map:

Talking of Edinburgh, does anyone remember the thundersnow a few years ago?

I couldn't get on yesterday as we had a Vodafone outage all day which meant no mobiles or internet in our house!

We had a storm at about 3am yesterday (NW coast), but the rain wasn't much to write home about.

We made up for it yesterday evening though. While the thunder storm was brief and not up to much, the rain was full pelt. I timed walking the dog totally wrong and got soaked! The gardens really needed it, so I'm glad we got it.

I'm really hoping the heatwave will break before the weekend of July 1st but I bet it won't.

We've had about an inch now, judging from the amount in the wheelbarrow. Sunny evening I think, a bit more rain forecast for tomorrow

Interesting behaviour of the storms in the NW that indicates they may be particularly severe. Is anyone in the area?

We had a bit of rain earlier but only a 20 minute shower. The forecast evening of thunderstorms has vanished into light cloud and sunshine. I think we're in a gap between everyone else's storms on that image.

Yes I'm in one of those area. The sky is very dark and the thunder rumbled for school pick up. Also threw it down, again.

You've certainly been a bit of a target in that region for many of the storms.

I’m guessing the news about the sudden increase of sea temperatures around the U.K. recently means we could be in for some big storms this summer.

Thunder, lightning and heavy rain just hit east Sussex. We had rain the other day but this is the first proper storm. Loving it!

@CaveMum It has been raining for about an hour in Ascot area, expected to last another 15 minutes.

Not sure how much absorbing of it the ground will do having been so dry for the last few weeks.

Lots of lovely rain where I am in Hampshire. Hoping for a bit more for the garden.

Woke up during the night to heavy rain a lovely sound. It's very overcast this morning so perhaps more to come
