The Met Office have issued a very widespread thunderstorm warning for Sunday. The coverage of the warning reflects uncertainty as to where storms will crop up. Not everywhere will see storms of course.

Main risk: torrential rain.

This weekend marks a transition to unsettled, but generally very warm period, with muggy nights, but temperatures lower than they have been. Further rainy periods and perhaps storms are expected.

More heavy rain in my bit of Lancashire today, forecast is for a sunny afternoon and evening.

@nannynick thanks for the update. They are reporting that the course had 10mm during that storm but they are not anticipating more than the odd passing shower for the rest of the day.

Brighton racecourse on the other hand took 28mm of rain, enough to change the going description from good to firm to soft, heavy in places. They had to hold an inspection at 11am to decide if the ground was safe enough to race on this evening.

We've had torrential rain this morning but it's dried up for the moment and is looking quite bright. Wouldn't be surprised if a few thunderstorms get set off though.

If you are in this area (Lincolnshire), parts of East Anglia etc, any feedback on hail and any damage would be very interesting, but take good care.

Cambs/Suffolk border here, not a sniff of a thunderstorm.

We really need a storm.

even in my new north facing flat, it got up to 27 today, I suppose the old one would have hit 30.
