Part 1 was getting a bit giant and in the miraculous event that I manage to sleep in a little tomorrow, it seems a good idea to start the new thread a little early. Part 1:

Met office warnings www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/warnings-and-advice/uk-warnings

We didn't quite get to record UK temperatures, though lots of site records were achieved and Wales beat its previous record temperature by more than 2c. Tomorrow we look very likely to beat the UK record and to surpass 40c.

Tonight, obviously, do everything you can to cool your homes down, it won't be easy with lows of 24c in some places. One more day and it will feel much better for many.

DS got up at 5pm as part of Operation Cool Spaniel but it was already 25 degrees so didn't risk paw burn. Spaniel is hogging the fan, oh well 🤷‍♀️

To the lady who lost her kitten 💐

MrsGluck · 19/07/2022 08:15

Yes, OYBBK deserves all the praise.

I have the windows and curtains closed at the front of the house that gets the sun in the morning. Have them open at the back of the house just to get some fresh air. The temperature outside is the same as inside at 26. Can't quite believe I am writing that at 8 am in London.

I am wfh today, but can't imagine how I will do anything useful.

stillherenow · 19/07/2022 08:18

27 inside and 24 outside so I'm keeping the windows open a tad longer

stillherenow · 19/07/2022 08:22

Lost the hat battle with dd. No hat in summer; no coat in winter Hmm

alllo · 19/07/2022 08:25

All the thunderstorms have disappeared from the weather forecast in the West Midlands Sad

velvetvixen · 19/07/2022 08:27

Morning all! awww some sad posts. Condolences for lost pets.

Bit more sleep last night because I was simply so tired. We just have to get through today and tonight, people!

We can do it, then rejoice in the coming rain (hopefully).

BestIsWest · 19/07/2022 08:29

Thunderstorms have disappeared from our forecast too - they were there an hour ago. Rain at 12 forecast though.

Whinge · 19/07/2022 08:33

We were forecast rain for most of tomorrow, and now all of a sudden it seems to have changed to cloud and sun. Confused

Please tell me it's a glitch. I was so excited for rain.

Namechangeweather · 19/07/2022 08:35

Quick name change as location outs me with my recent work posts.

Big black sky here in Cornwall and bloody lovely thunder and rain. Cracking big thunderclaps!

Lingoflaming · 19/07/2022 08:36

I slept downstairs which was cooler than upstairs but I'll be camping out in the garden tonight. I'll get the tent out from the shed and put it up before it gets too hot. It's 25° here with a lovely breeze but it's predicted to be 38° plus later on.

velvetvixen · 19/07/2022 08:43

Oh my. So jealous of you Namechangeweather. Sounds lovely! big juicy black clouds....sigh.

peridito · 19/07/2022 08:43

@Cakeandcoffee93 please ring/email triage form thing (which our practice has instead of phone call) GP.

Whenever I'm unwell I make poor decisions and not contacting GP/asking for help are the first to fall by the wayside .

Would also suggest rehydration fluid ,if you don't have any around -
6 level teaspoons of sugar and 1/2 level teaspoon of salt dissolved in 1 litre of clean water
and buccastem helps with nausea and available without prescription if someone could get you some .

Namechangeweather · 19/07/2022 08:51

@velvetvixen It was nice, seems to have passed across now, now just grey sky and cooler.

PeloAddict · 19/07/2022 08:53

I have a plumber here fitting a new shower screen. Luckily my place is still fairly cool inside which he seems grateful for! I'm offering cold drinks and ice lollies

RockandRollsuicide · 19/07/2022 08:55

All day was extremely and most surprisingly fine in doors because of sheets outside and closing in cool air.

However I went out yesterday evening and when I came back into the house the air seemed odd! Cool and almost wet.
I tried to air it last night 🌃 but it was already so hot ,so I wafted air around.

It's been harder this am to get any cool air but I just hope we have "fresher" air in.

It's going to be far harder today to cope but,it's only untill 7/8pm.
And it's the last day .

VittysCardigan · 19/07/2022 08:56

I have put an ice block in a towel for my moggy & he's looking very happy with his new sleeping spot

Cr22345678990 · 19/07/2022 09:01

Urgrh I am going to Asda today for the air con this is awful my toddler barely slept and I slept all of 4 hours. I hate this heat 😭

CaveMum · 19/07/2022 09:05

Good Morrow fine people!

Or something like that. I see that active thunderstorms have moved into the far SW. This marks the boundary of change between the extreme heat and fresher, moister air. It will be fascinating to watch the transition.

It will be slow to move in though, only reaching, for example a stripe stretching from Bangor to the Isle of Wight by 4pmish and the London area around 8pm, Cambridge area by very approximately 10pm. Don't hold too fast to those timings.

There may be cloud moving in in advance of the front which would inhibit top temperatures, but in general, the forecasts from yesterday still stand.

Top temperature spots:Approx around Cambridgeshire, Lincolnshire areas would be my guess.

This is Cambridgeshire calling! (well Cambs/Suffolk border!) Highest temp of the day yesterday recorded half an hour up the road from us at Santon Downham and I can report it’s already 30 here. Not going to be a fun one!

I have to do our food shop at lunchtime so will be lingering in the freezer aisle for a tad longer than needed 😉

Chocciebiscuit · 19/07/2022 09:10

Sorry to the person who lost their kitten 💐
Hubby yesterday put cardboard on some windows to block out the sun and doubled up the living room curtains by pegging a spare pair on to several wooden coat hangers then hooked them over the curtain pole to provide an extra layer which has helped as our normal curtains are quite thin. The spare curtains he pinned up are a different size but it does not matter guess you could do this with blankets just need strong pegs we have stainless steel ones. Other way would be to just use soare curtain hooks to attach to original curtains.

Motorina · 19/07/2022 09:25

@CaveMum you can't be far from me. Yes, 30 at 9am here, too. I'm sat in the garden in the shade working and it's actually quite nice, but it's only 9am!

33C here and our water main has burst so no water until 1300 at earliest. Just been to co op and shelves empty of bottled water already 🙁

ElspethBoomingHowsen · 19/07/2022 09:28

36.5 on my ward at the moment. Inside of my ears are sweating and wearing a mask is an absolute killer

lilroo87 · 19/07/2022 09:30

I'm in Cornwall and so far it's overcast with a lovely breeze and I've just heard some thunder. It is still quite muggy though and the forecast says that we'll have about 24 degrees once the rain and thunder have gone by this afternoon.
I'm making the most of the cool air with all windows and doors open

bluegardenflowers · 19/07/2022 09:31

UK Record high night temp in yorkshire (where i live) of 25.7. and it felt like it. Cold wet flannel on my head all night.

bluegardenflowers · 19/07/2022 09:33

I spent all morning in an ice rink, which i think top trumps most people! Was actually cold at one point with just a sleeveless blouse and vest with my leggings 😁
