Part 1 was getting a bit giant and in the miraculous event that I manage to sleep in a little tomorrow, it seems a good idea to start the new thread a little early. Part 1:
www.mumsnet.com/talk/weather/4590238-met-office-red-warning-for-extreme-heat

Met office warnings www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/warnings-and-advice/uk-warnings

We didn't quite get to record UK temperatures, though lots of site records were achieved and Wales beat its previous record temperature by more than 2c. Tomorrow we look very likely to beat the UK record and to surpass 40c.

Tonight, obviously, do everything you can to cool your homes down, it won't be easy with lows of 24c in some places. One more day and it will feel much better for many.

I've just had to go round shutting windows as it's properly chilly and although I enjoyed it for a while now I'm a bit shivery! THANK GOD!

I'm jealous!

EmmaH2022 · 22/07/2022 10:31

Still horribly humid here

they say it will rain but no sign of it

28, 29 at the weekend and then late next week. Plops. ☹️

BlackeyedSusan · 22/07/2022 12:46

@OhYouBadBadKitten

I hope you are fully recovered now from the heat and have had chance to process the enormity of the exceptional weather. Must be worse when you know more and understand how unusual it is.

Thank you for your threads, they are much appreciated.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 22/07/2022 19:34

Thanks @BlackeyedSusan , yes I am fully recovered physically. Grin

Still processing things I think. This image from the Met Office demonstrates how truly exceptional it was. It wasn't just a few hot spots, look at how the whole UK max average was above 30C. Shock

I’m still recovering…and this is the weather forecast for the next week. Not looking good for me

Not as hot admittedly but still very warm

At least it's saying it will cool down overnight next week, so that's reassuring Smile

OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/07/2022 13:09

It seems very unlikely that we will reach the the extreme heat that we did last week. There is so e potential for temperatures in the low to mid 30s at the beginning of August in the south.

thanks Kitten

I was hoping for the usual late July weather but no such luck.

RagzRebooted · 23/07/2022 23:07

Google news feed just threw me a Mirror article saying it could be 43°C tomorrow. I'm refusing to read it! My weather app says 27, which I can cope with.

Plasmodesmata · 23/07/2022 23:16

Some of the tabloids / clickbait sites are doing their usual "extreme weather is coming" headlines but if you read it, it says in the small print "The Met Office says actually it won't get that hot".

That's what I'd hoped, it did sound very clickbaity, hence why I didn't click on it.

Ive not read it. How on earth did they justify that? Don't they think there wouldn't be warnings etc?

It's the summer counterpart of when the Met Office says 'wintry showers which may fall as snow on higher ground' and the tabloids headline is "SNOWMAGGEDON"

But the potential (and round here likelihood) of settled sunny, hot weather is making the 'its only 2 days' crowd look even sillier - at this point in 1976 we were also just at the beginning

I got that too. The article was written on Monday about Tuesday's weather, so completely out of date!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 24/07/2022 08:31

The outlook in the south is for continued warm-hot weather to continue into the foreseeable.

Absolutely massive fire near me in Surrey. On heathland .

mrshoho · 24/07/2022 16:15

No rain forecast for the next coming 10 days in and around London. The showers last week didn't do much and the grass everywhere is more like straw. I'm wary of putting the bbq on!

EmmaH2022 · 24/07/2022 16:19

mrshoho I wouldn't use it.

fires in North and West London, smoke visible from my block.

mrshoho · 24/07/2022 16:28

I think you're right Emma. I've seen how fast a garden fire can get out of hand last week! We've got cold stuff we can have instead.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 24/07/2022 16:41

There seem to be a number of wildfires being reported around London and Surrey this afternoon.

OP posts:
userxx · 24/07/2022 16:41

Pissing it down in south Manchester. Yay summer.

stillherenow · 24/07/2022 16:51

The Surrey one is huge and wind is blowing it over west London

colouringindoors · 24/07/2022 17:03

28 in the Chilterns today and a strong breeze. Saw someone at a large woods with a bbq yesterday and almost went up to them and told them not to (but am a bit on the small side). Everything round here is sooooo dry.

colouringindoors · 24/07/2022 17:05

Surrey looks bad
