Part 1 was getting a bit giant and in the miraculous event that I manage to sleep in a little tomorrow, it seems a good idea to start the new thread a little early. Part 1:
www.mumsnet.com/talk/weather/4590238-met-office-red-warning-for-extreme-heat

Met office warnings www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/warnings-and-advice/uk-warnings

We didn't quite get to record UK temperatures, though lots of site records were achieved and Wales beat its previous record temperature by more than 2c. Tomorrow we look very likely to beat the UK record and to surpass 40c.

Tonight, obviously, do everything you can to cool your homes down, it won't be easy with lows of 24c in some places. One more day and it will feel much better for many.

36.5 on my ward at the moment. Inside of my ears are sweating and wearing a mask is an absolute killer

I was coming on to moan but after read this think myself lucky!

Last night was awful 😞

ellieboolou · 19/07/2022 09:39

@Cr22345678990 children and I have a trip to tesco planned today for the air con, security might have to forcibly remove us at some point 😂

Just to clarify I wasn't just making the dog comfortable, I was making sure he stayed alive. He's a large breed and one of the riskiest for heat stroke

You don't need to justify your actions to some moaning ransoms on mumsnet

BestIsWest · 19/07/2022 09:41

A real breeze building up here now and clouding over. I’ve got my thunder headache.

All those of you teaching, nursing or providing any service through this deserve medals.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 19/07/2022 09:43

Goodness. Cambridge reached 33c by 9:20. That's quite extraordinary.

@CaveMum hope your supermarket has better luck than ours, all the fridges and freezers have packed up!

FourTeaFallOut · 19/07/2022 09:49

Oh, my met office forecast breaks the 39c heat predicted for us with thunder and lightning. Surely if it happens that has to be a good one, right? With that much energy? <Assumption based on more hope than knowledge>

BatshitCrazyWoman · 19/07/2022 09:55

💐 for the loss of your kitten, PP 😥

Good morning from the Kent/London border. I can hear thunder!!! I got quite excited but there are only thin whispy white clouds in the sky 🙁

The coolest part of my house is my living room, which hasn't seen daylight for days - it's 27°. I have a fan on with a big bottle of frozen water in front of it, which seems to help. I have wrung out muslins in the fridge that I can drape about my person.

I live on a hill and it's always breezy, although yesterday that felt like a hot hairdryer! I opened everything up this morning as the breeze was cooler but it was getting warm by 8 am.

Even if it's still 25° here tomorrow (according to the Met Office), it will feel so much better than this!!

One more day ...

LaPufalina · 19/07/2022 09:57

Just had a look at the radar on Accuweather, looks interesting! Storms coming in over Cornwall

CaveMum · 19/07/2022 09:58

Network Rail reporting that they recorded 62C on one of their rails in Suffolk yesterday 😱

Widely expected to hit 40C near us by 4pm today now.

My kitten died partially due to the heat yesterday, I am utterly devastated. We tried everything to ensure he was safe. I hate this weather.

I'm really sorry to hear that! How sad, poor little mite 😔

My cat worries me sick, he insists on sleeping in the conservatory! He is a weirdo who loves the heat! never known a cat like it....

I've just replied to my old teachers silly facebook status because he did a big shitey rant about the UK being a pathetic nanny state for being concerned about the high temps....He now bloody lives abroad where everywhere has aircon! selfish sod...Such an I'm alright Jack attitude...🙄

HMSSophia · 19/07/2022 10:03

Beds herts border. It's 33 already.

GloriaSmud · 19/07/2022 10:06

Metoffice provisionally says the UK's just had its hottest night ever.

My weather station says it's 35.2 here (western edge of Leicester) at the moment.
Metoffice are giving us a 50% chance of a thunderstorm at 3pm then showery stuff from 8pm onwards. Counting down the hours at the moment.

wonkylegs · 19/07/2022 10:07

My brother in the SW has seriously just told me not to be ridiculous it can't be that hot in the NE, when I pointed out it was forecast to be 40degrees here today. He told me it'll never get above 30 even though it did yesterday and is already 29 at 10am.
It's apparently lovely where he is on the coast in Devon.
He is one of those people who believes he's right no matter the evidence 🙄

GloriaSmud · 19/07/2022 10:10

That should say Met Office says UK provisionally had its warmest night on record and not what I put. <blames heat-affected brain>

OhYouBadBadKitten · 19/07/2022 10:13

There may not be much rain to start for some even where storms do develop overhead. The air underneath is very dry, so much of it will probably evaporate at first.

Thunder now in Devon

Notonthestairs · 19/07/2022 10:16

Herts - currently 33 and our 8/9pm thunderstorms have vanished from our Met office forecasts 😭

GloriaSmud · 19/07/2022 10:20

Today's thoughts from Netweather.

LegoLady95 · 19/07/2022 10:21

I am working from home today and have a large freezer ice pack on a towel under my desk with my bare feet on. It is really helping; I did the same in bed last night. If my feet are cool I can regulate my body temp so much better.

lollipoprainbow · 19/07/2022 10:32

I've just rubbed my cat up and down with an ice pop from the freezer he loved it, it really cooled his fur for a few seconds !

CaveMum · 19/07/2022 10:46

We have a pet cool gel mat for our cat - she spent most of yesterday on it. I put it in her favourite spot this morning, next to my desk on a chair with a fan pointing at both of us. She stayed on it for all of 5 minutes and has now gone to lie in a patch of sun 🙄

Think I might move it to my chair shortly - 29 degrees inside right now, 35 outside according to my phone app but the local weather station says "only" 34 😫

OhYouBadBadKitten · 19/07/2022 10:47
