I am a bit concerned about this one. Widespread gusts to 60mph, but reaching 80mph in parts of the NE. Winds from a NW direction will bring down more trees than you would expect for this level of gusts as it is an unusual direction.

The met office warnings are a little hard to decipher, but effectively the amber warnings finish at 9am, they then change to yellow which covers most of us until this evening.
Then there are three separate snow warnings out: much of scotland, what I call the northern spine and for the midlands into central southern areas. Much of that last area is v. marginal.
@tryingtocatchthewind that's strange then, do you know why? Don't mean to be patronising, but have you checked the main fuse?
No offence taken, it’s not that. One of our garden walls has collapsed so I think it’s done something. Thankfully we have family round the corner so we’ll going to camp out there!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/11/2021 08:39

A better summary of the wind warnings.

Don't forget to check road conditions before travelling. Local radio stations, highways agency twitter feed, local police twitter all good for this.

Obviously stay away from downed power lines!!

Lots of trees down around Glasgow area. No snow though...

I was rather hoping it would be White-ly Bay this morning. As in snow covered!

RampantIvy · 27/11/2021 08:46

We have a good covering of snow here in South Yorkshire on the edge of the Pennines. It is still very windy.

31,000 homes without power in the North West !

Trees down everywhere here on roads. We've lost loads of fencing and shrubs.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/11/2021 09:16

House ok Panda?

I think I would try and keep roads clear for emergency and working vehicles in badly affected areas. Especially as trees will continue to come down today even with weaker winds.

@FanGirlX

North West here. Seems to have calmed down a lot since last night.
Yes, it's regular gusts, rather than constant. And 'only' mid-40s mph, rather than the 60+ constant of last night.
DementedPanda · 27/11/2021 09:20

Ours seems fine, others haven't been so lucky. Roof blown off, sheds and trampolines all over the town, windows put out etc. Far too windy still too.

FourTeaFallOut · 27/11/2021 09:23

Well the trampoline migrated across the garden and squished the plants. The neighbour's fence is hanging on for dear life and another neighbour's car has narrowly missed a round with a random metal pole. We are in the small area of our estate still with power and I'm trying to super heat the house in case we follow next as the BBC weather app has snow forecast.

If this doesn't make you go 'eek', nothing will: twitter.com/bigjettvlive/status/1464279878396743686?s=21

Bobbobbobbing · 27/11/2021 09:33

Still a heck of a wind here. Our tarpaulined conservatory roof survived with just a few small tears but our neighbours wall has collapsed and there are so many trees down in the village.

Not anticipating the electric coming back on anytime soon. Dh is down as a priority customer as he has a cpap machine but it looks as though northern powergrid will have a lot on their plate today. Luckily I'm a prepper so food, heating and light are sorted. Smile

True but FWIW that is at LHR,, I’m pretty sure a while back, with a very strong wind out of the southwest….landing on that runway with that wind direction was always fun due to the turbulence generated off the buildings in central area..

The wind is out of the north there today and hopefully not as strong as the day that video was made hopefully there will be no repeats…

RampantIvy · 27/11/2021 09:56

DD is in Newcastle and they still have power. All is fine in her household.

RampantIvy · 27/11/2021 09:59

We once had a very bumpy landing at Humberside in a rainstorm. I was very glad to get back on terra firma.

supremelybaffled · 27/11/2021 10:02

We seem to have come off very lightly down here in the rural home counties, I really hope that everyone is ok and any damage can be sorted out for you all.

Massive hats off to all the pilots, cabin crews and air traffic controllers last night, they really had their work cut out, didn't they?

Rowgtfc72 · 27/11/2021 10:04

@Joystir59 Donna Nooks recording 50mph winds and 64mph gusts just now.
Feel for those further up north.

gingercat02 · 27/11/2021 10:05

NE coast here. Carnage this morning. 12ft trampoline flipped and knocked the wall over, most of next doors fir tree in our garden (after the councils tree surgeon said it didn't need reduced or taken down about 6 weeks ago), several bits of roof facias missing. Lots of tiles off and roof damage all over the surrounding streets.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/11/2021 10:11

I'm sorry to hear about all the damage.

9m high waves off the NE Coast. [Shock]
