I am a bit concerned about this one. Widespread gusts to 60mph, but reaching 80mph in parts of the NE. Winds from a NW direction will bring down more trees than you would expect for this level of gusts as it is an unusual direction.

@Ilovemycatsomuch it depends what part of Fife. The red area took in some of the east of fife but the rest was still in the amber so it will still have been kind of blowy. I'm in Edinburgh, also amber, and it certainly wasn't as bad here as other areas. Hope your friend is ok

tryingtocatchthewind · 27/11/2021 07:32

@CallMeRisley

North East coast here. Trampoline is upside down and fence is flat. Lots of posts on local Facebook group about roof tiles and chimney pots being down, house and car windows being smashed (I can hear car alarms going off), fences and sheds, multiple trampolines and wheelie bins etc plus street signs and trees blown over- this one is in my area (not my photos). Hope everyone is safe.
You’re very close to me (you might want to take down the street sign). I daren’t open the curtains to look! My heating hasn’t come on when it’s timed to which isn’t a good sign
GloriaSmud · 27/11/2021 07:38

Fairly quiet here at the moment (Leicester) although it's a chilly 2.7C

BBC report on the disruption in Scotland.

Unescorted · 27/11/2021 07:50

I was smugly trundling through reports of
Snow, wind and power cuts around and about thinking we had dodged a bullet. And then the power went off. The temperature is plummeting.
I am thankful for a fully charged phone and a gas hob.
I think I might be starting the designs for the Christmas napkins while tucked in a sleeping bag with a hot water bottle.

GloriaSmud · 27/11/2021 07:56

Just looked outside and it's snowing. Temperature's dropped to 2.3C but think the ground is going to be too wet for it to settle.

RainbowZebraWarrior · 27/11/2021 08:02

@tryingtocatchthewind and @CallMeRisley you are both very close to me. I've also seen a couple of pics on facebook of gable ends half fallen on to cars etc.

So far here, shed door is off. Neighbours were running round the street at 1am, but cant see anything too bad so assume they were just securing things or running after errant garden furniture!

PickAChew · 27/11/2021 08:02

Still some very loud gust, here in Durham. Neighbours' rickety fence finally copped it and various posts on Nextdoor warning about debris in roads and someone trying to trace the owner of a plastic greenhouse that has turned up in their garden.

FanGirlX · 27/11/2021 08:03

North West here. Seems to have calmed down a lot since last night.

ChrissyHynde · 27/11/2021 08:05

@Roystonv

Very noisy here and street lights/furniture knocking and banging. South Lakes. Meant to be our big festival today and Sunday.
We've decided not to go , all the effort of the stall holders , let's hope they can salvage something from the weekend
Youaremypenguin · 27/11/2021 08:07

Assessing the damage so far. Trampoline has blown across the garden (was weighted down well and safety netting removed. Fences down, branches off trees and bins scattered. It's still blustery, what a night.

Tempusfudgeit · 27/11/2021 08:08

The huge beautiful beech tree opposite us has fallen and is blocking the road. Such a sad sight. Its shade in the summer and myriad leaves in the autumn gave us a lot of pleasure.

slalomsuki · 27/11/2021 08:09

Wind dropped off considerably about 5am but we now have about 4 inches of snow where we are. Can see a couple of branches down in the fields and all sporting events are off locally. It's still snowing but it seems to be turning to sleet a bit now.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/11/2021 08:13

Morning all, I'll just try and catch up with what's going on then I'll be with you.

@tryingtocatchthewind They’re not my photos, they’re from the local area Facebook group so it’s not my street sign. Hi nearby neighbour 👋Smile

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/11/2021 08:15

@november90

I work in home insurance and I'm sat in my bed up with my baby listening to the crazy wind outside thinking..... Monday's going to be fun 😬😬😬😬😬😬😬
Would it be ok if I sent you a dm please about something a bit different?

Ramped up here on the East Coast.
Local weather station says 39mph winds and 50mph gusts.
Not amused.

tryingtocatchthewind · 27/11/2021 08:17

Well I’m the only house on my street without electricity! X

Joystir59 · 27/11/2021 08:18

@Rowgtfc72 I'm on the East coast too, and also unamused. Met office forecasts wind speeds aren't set to drop until midday-ish.

CallMeRisley · 27/11/2021 08:19

@Rowgtfc72

Ramped up here on the East Coast. Local weather station says 39mph winds and 50mph gusts. Not amused.
BBC news says highest winds recorded were 98mph at Brizlee Wood in Northumberland near Alnwick/Alnmouth
Joystir59 · 27/11/2021 08:19

@tryingtocatchthewind that's strange then, do you know why? Don't mean to be patronising, but have you checked the main fuse?

CallMeRisley · 27/11/2021 08:20

@tryingtocatchthewind and @RainbowZebraWarrior all the locals are kicking off on Facebook at this misspelling on the BBC news Grin

I'm feeling for those up the coast further north from me. It must be terrifying.

I'm about to set off to help set up our Christmas fair this morning ( Yorkshire coast). We decided to do something nice again for the older people and young families in the community who do enjoy a mince pie with Christmas music, a trawl around Christmas gift stalls, teddy tombola etc. We advertised that windows would be opened ( Covid precautions)... I just can't see any of them leaving their houses today!

dementedma · 27/11/2021 08:27

Very calm in Central Fife now but it was a very wild night in the NE. Friend is out with his chainsaw already helping to clear roads.
