Grin

Might as well get going on this thread, though it is rather a tease at the moment.

The ECMWF model is hinting at the possibility of some much colder weather next week, perhaps bringing some snow to Scottish hills. BUT the met office are still going for quite a wild and wet affair instead.
The ECMWF shows quite an interesting scenario really.

Sorry, I'm in Dublin

WhoNeedsShoesAnyway · 04/12/2020 14:45

baubling · 04/12/2020 14:51

Less than 30 miles west of Cambridge here, and not a snowflake in sight anywhere. Just drizzle.

ShrikeAttack · 04/12/2020 16:58

It's stopped snowing now, here's the garden atm.

Manchester Snow Shield™️ is going strong. Lots of extremely cold rain, but nothing I could definitively call an actual snowflake. DS said it looked almost sleety in central MCR though.

blackpoolsneighbour · 04/12/2020 18:15

We have got bitterly cold rain and my car said it's -3. I wish it would snow, it'd be nicer.

beenrumbled · 04/12/2020 18:37

DD is gutted. College in Ashton under Lyne closed early but it was her week for WFH. And in our neck of the woods we had some wet snow but nothing that stuck. SIL has a couple of inches Glossop.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 04/12/2020 21:41

It's possible that there maybe some snow overnight in central southern areas, esp over higher ground.

Horrible, wet, cold and windy all day and some more lighting in the Forth.

Uh oh for those in the south of England - new heavy rain warning popped up out of nowhere. Could turn to heavy snow over higher ground. I see there is sleet in the same system over Wales at present.

So tired from the night before, I slept through the thunderhail during the night in Edinburgh.

www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/warnings-and-advice/uk-warnings#?date=2020-12-07 fog warnings for much of the south, with some rain warnings in the north.

It’s been foggy all day here.

Yesterday was the most glorious sunny icily frosty day here in South Wales. Today is cold and dank and just above freezing.

BiddyPop · 07/12/2020 07:52

Freezing fog overnight in Dublin, very slippy paths out walking at only 7,30 last night, but it had only got up to +1.5 degrees in the middle of the day.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/12/2020 12:01

I think there may be a little snow incoming over the south downs this afternoon. Possibly over the North Downs too.

Ooh I'm right at the peak of the North Downs! Fingers crossed!
OublietteBravo · 07/12/2020 13:27

I’d like a change from freezing fog now please. It didn’t lift at all yesterday, and it isn’t showing any sign of lifting today either.

Exhaustotron · 07/12/2020 18:12

The fog/mist general lack of sunshine and air movement is playing havoc with the agile electricity tariffs. We need more wind & sunshine please!

(Or snow. Snow would be an acceptable alternative)

Delatron · 07/12/2020 18:58

It’s awful isn’t it? I’m normally happy to be outdoors in any weather but not this!
Would love to see a bit of sunshine. Love a cold crisp day or yes some snow! Freezing fog is miserable.

BiddyPop · 08/12/2020 10:03

The freezing fog has lifted here this morning - a bit of a breeze again and mostly clear skies (the few clouds we have are high and scattered). We had very slippy paths again yesterday (postman was warning us when he did his rounds), and still only 1.5 degrees at 7pm last night, but does feel more like 5 or 6 this morning.

NovemberR · 08/12/2020 15:45

Miserable damp foggy day here. Mood and temperature are low!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 09/12/2020 13:56

We are looking a bit of a warmer, wetter period for a little while now. I'd pop the sledges down for a few days at least.

The Mirror has got a nice snowmaggedon headline today

"UK weather forecast: White Christmas on the cards for these areas as polar ice bomb looms"

Which if you read the article seems to unpick as parts of Scotland are likely to have snow and very cold temperatures, and that elsewhere it's likely to be typical December temperatures, changeable weather with wintry showers on higher ground
