Grin

Might as well get going on this thread, though it is rather a tease at the moment.

The ECMWF model is hinting at the possibility of some much colder weather next week, perhaps bringing some snow to Scottish hills. BUT the met office are still going for quite a wild and wet affair instead.
The ECMWF shows quite an interesting scenario really.

@dementedswan it's bin day here too, NE coast. We had a covering yesterday but nothing since. Lovely blue skies currently

EwwSprouts · 09/02/2021 08:34

We've got a couple of inches of decent snowman texture on the ground and it's just started with decent size flakes again. East Yorks.

LIZS · 09/02/2021 08:35

More overnight here, roads covered but main road is gritted and slushy rather than icy.

East Anglia here, Suffolk/Essex border around 10 miles from the coast. About 6 inches of snow, more in the drifts and it's just started snowing again. Wind chill is significant; the dog's walks are short and functional at the moment!

myoho · 09/02/2021 09:35

North Kent here. I live at the very end of a long , windy and sloping road. My car is stuck,,,,and it's still snowing!

NotAQueef · 09/02/2021 11:57

We're having all the varieties of snow today in Colchester - teeny tiny flakes, bit fat wet flakes, and just now little snowy balls (graupel?) have had around 5 inches in total and drifts are higher than than in my garden. very pretty. Definitely feels warmer today and the icicles are melting and dropping precariously. Definitely the most prolonged snow spell I can remember - usually get a quick dump and it's all over.

Perihelion · 09/02/2021 12:18

Met office finally updated their Amber warning for snow to cover Edinburgh, Glasgow and the Boarders this morning...bit late.
More snow showers Grin

EventuallyDeleted · 09/02/2021 12:26

Ours has all gone again, despite the temperature staying below freezing, I'm guessing it has sublimed because of the dry wind? I don't think it's blown into drifts, there isn't any piling up at the edges of paths.

InMySpareTime · 09/02/2021 13:41

We had the opposite in Manchester, tiny snowflakes appearing and falling from a clear blue sky! Perhaps it's your missing snow?

sadpapercourtesan · 09/02/2021 13:44

I'm in the SW, DH got me out of bed early this morning because apparently there were a few flakes spotted in a different area of town, and he thought we might get some too. Not a fucking sausage Sad Sad Sad

ShowOfHands · 09/02/2021 15:55

We've got about 12 inches here in our bit of Norfolk. Just had another heavy hour of snow and it has added another inch. I think this may be the last of it. Had a brilliant 2 days. Was a lovely, if brief, diversion from Groundhog Day.

lockdownrainbow · 09/02/2021 17:18

Hampshire here tiny dusting earlier light snow most of the day but very windy

beenrumbled · 09/02/2021 17:34

I had to pop to the office for some work equipment this afternoon. Slight dusting of snow in places, mostly just cold and bright.

On the way home there were a few flakes falling from a clear sky Hmm but I could see across to Stockport and the Cheshire plain, and it looked like they were about to get a dumping of snow. Envy

nannynick · 09/02/2021 19:09

Has the Braemar video been posted yet? I can't see it so here it is...

Record snowfall 70cms deep now covers Braemar in the Cairngorms Scotland and temp's fall to -15

OhYouBadBadKitten · 09/02/2021 21:33

I think the met office may be underplaying severe cold for Wednesday night - ECMWF is showing wide spread temperatures in inland south eastern england and east anglia below -10c. Especially where skies clear over snow fields.

Is that because they're not sure? Wide variation for forecasts on different sites for my postcode but one has realfeel at -10.
WorraLiberty · 09/02/2021 22:21

Hi, can one of your clever weather watchers answer a question for me please? I've Googled but can't seem to find the answer.

When I look at (in this case) the Met Office weather forecast, it says 'light snow (night)'.

I just wonder why they sometimes say 'night' or 'day' on a selected hour or two?

I've included a screenshot, hope it shows up.

We had that in the Welsh borders
OhYouBadBadKitten · 09/02/2021 22:33

I've not seen that before Worra.

Luna - there a lots of different weather models and the met office have their own, icluding access to data we can't see as members of the public. I'd always rank them as far far beyond my amateur interpretations of models that are available to me.
Weather maps and meteograms though, as you imply, only show one possible, hopefully the most likely, scenario. I've noticed though that those outputs tend to underplay cold temperatures, especially over snow. Where I am locally, our minima is often 2 or 3 degrees below their forecast for my area. That may be down to very local conditions. I live in a frost hollow.

LunaHeather · 09/02/2021 22:39

Kitten, that's interesting. I live in the urbs so probably seems less cold, thank goodness.

WorraLiberty · 09/02/2021 23:00

@OhYouBadBadKitten I've been noticing it for months now but when I ask Google, it just brings up various weather forecasts.

drinkingwineoutofamug · 10/02/2021 06:50

Woke up to a nice scattering in east Cheshire.
-4 with a real feel of -9. Can well believe. Was a bit fresh walking into work

Dementedswan · 10/02/2021 07:49

Heavy snow on the north east coast

Ginfordinner · 10/02/2021 08:00

@Dementedswan

Heavy snow on the north east coast
DD will be happy. She has been jealous that we have had more snow in Yorkshire than her this winter. This time we just have icing sugar.
