i'm just plonking this here, will be back later to fill in the details, but the Met Office have just named Storm Dennis for Sunday the 15th Feb.

In the mean time, here have a load of weather warnings including an amber for snow.

Very windy in Beds again. Am definitely bored of this wind now.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 22/02/2020 08:41

Igenococcus yes, the lighting detectors we use online are ATD detectors. These are very insensitive to cloud to cloud lightning, and generally only show cloud to ground strikes.

Very windy overnight in east lancs

mogloveseggs · 22/02/2020 09:32

But it's glorious sunshine!

borntobequiet · 22/02/2020 09:45

Thanks for the link to that article wetinworcs .
I’ve certainly been a lot more careful recently, not risking going through any water, even field runoff (thought I might have knackered my car in November...to be fair, it was standing water, just rather deeper and a longer stretch round a corner than I anticipated).
I’ve been going to work earlier to avoid heavy motorway traffic (alternative to closed A38) and leaving work early as well. As a morning person that suits me fine!

AutumnRose1 · 22/02/2020 12:11

Ugh, this weather

Hope it goes away but looking at the forecast, not much chance of that.

Perihelion · 22/02/2020 14:11

More of the same, wind, rain, sleet, snow, just with a bit more sunshine mixed in.

daisychain01 · 22/02/2020 15:24

Considering there is meant to be a severe weather warning in this neck of the woods (well, along the west side of the country anyway), it has been pleasingly calm today. The overnight brisk winds have been replaced with a period of dry, cloudy conditions - perfect to nip into town to get some shopping without being soaked and then blow-dried!

I think tomorrow won't be quite so clement but at least not as bad as last weekend hopefully.

All the debris has been cleared from the Valley road, including a large tree across the road, and the Wye is flowing quite fast, but the level has dropped right back.

And Lidl car park has cars in it, not a canoe in sight Smile

Justmuddlingalong · 22/02/2020 21:17

At 18 I would have been out on the lash on a Saturday night. But the middle aged me is doing a few loads of washing since we've got a dry, sunny and windy day forecast tomorrow and I can get it out on the line. The 18 year old me would be bloody horrified. 🤯

AutumnRose1 · 22/02/2020 21:22

The 18 year old me went everywhere by car so didn’t get sandblasted in this kind of weather.

Now it’s impossible to drive or park in London, I just avoid going out when it’s like this. Though the flat is certain,y getting a sandblasting as it’s a tall building.

Going to have to check mums roof with binoculars!

Mizydoscape · 22/02/2020 21:38

Don't know if I missed it but any news on your cat @torthecatlady?

torthecatlady · 22/02/2020 21:43

@Mizydoscape I wish I could tell you he's home, but unfortunately no news yet Sad

wetinworcs · 22/02/2020 22:50

waves to borntobequiet I am throughly sick of this weather now, it's still windy. There are a lot of fords and the ground is saturated so any bit of rain and it's off again Angry

@torthecatlady I am sorry you've still not got news about your cat.

Mizydoscape · 23/02/2020 07:44

@torthecatlady fingers crossed he shows up soon

torthecatlady · 23/02/2020 16:48

Look who came home this afternoon...

A neighbour responded to my leaflet drop. Her shed door had blown open in the wind and without checking (as we all would) she had closed it.

He's lost a lot of weight and looks very skinny. So far he has eaten 4 pouches of food and most of a packet of dreamies.

torthecatlady · 23/02/2020 17:28

Smile I'm not sure how I held it together, but I feel like crying with relief. He's currently asleep next to a pile of treats.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/02/2020 17:31

Rain and snow warnings for tomorrow.
www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/warnings-and-advice/uk-warnings#?date=2020-02-24

Snow could be an issue from the north Midlands up, especially over higher ground.

The good news is, although it remains wet, windy and unsettled with perhaps some snow showers in places, the overall storm risk is much lower for this week now, with the storm not developing over Thursday.

Hurrah!
