i'm just plonking this here, will be back later to fill in the details, but the Met Office have just named Storm Dennis for Sunday the 15th Feb.

In the mean time, here have a load of weather warnings including an amber for snow.

We had thunder last night before a torrential downpour Confused
I've seen the 26th/27th next week keeps showing up as well.

As for our government - this says it all. Angry

AmelieTaylor · 19/02/2020 11:13

Govt - ?? We still have one?!

BJ has been a total disgrace over the storms & flooding. Many leaders & Govts of various flavours have NOT used previous flooding as ‘Lessons learned’. They’ve all been crap! There’s nothing they can do, to undo ‘lives lost’ homes/businesses/belongings lost/ruined etc. There’s just not

But the absolute least they could do RUGHT NOW is get ANYTHING that will help to areas that are still in danger of flooding and make whatever money is required available to help people that are already flooded as much as money is able.

No one needs to see BJ’s face at the flood sites, they’ve been through enough, but money - yes, that would help somewhat

COBRA meeting and the forces drafted in to help put up as much protection against further flooding as they can and help out rescuing people.

Evacuation centres set up for people where flooding isn’t able to be prevented etc.

There are people who know what needs to be done, the Govts needs to finance & support it FFS, it’s not difficult.

Tomorrow looks like we could get another squall line as a cold front sweeps through the country, lunchtime/mid afternoon. Heavy rain, very strong gusty winds, and perhaps a little snow on the back edge.

pussycatinboots · 19/02/2020 16:31

thanks for the lesson in squall lines. i spotted the one for tomorrow when Carol was doing the BBC forecast this morning Grin
how bad it (pos) ellen on the 26th looking?

i'll also echo Amelies sentiments about our absent prime minister who seems preoccupied by his incredibly expensive divorce...

OhYouBadBadKitten · 19/02/2020 16:36

Impossible to know yet about 26th/27th, models vary from a normal winter low, to something more potent.

@YicketyYackMamasBack

If there is anything I can do for you I'm only a stones throw from you, so feel free to let me know (including any bottles of water) look after yourself Flowers

I did smile with the man in his canoe - someone had posted a comment on the post "I hope you've remembered your Bags for life!"

I haven't dared drop down to the valley road (like you, we are also high up) because I've heard it's completely inaccessible currently. Also I will be so upset seeing our favourite bridge at Bigsweir almost completely submerged in water. I hope it isn't badly damaged, it's a beautiful landmark bridge, like a verdigris colour (they only recently repainted it I seem to remember.)

It seems so cruel that there is yet more rain forecast in the area....

pussycatinboots · 19/02/2020 18:25

thanks OYBBK, i don't like the sound of "potent", so let's just cross everything that the models are a bit off.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 19/02/2020 22:09

Tomorrow's squall line is looking pretty sharp!
hail, lightning, strong winds, torrential rain and the possibility of an isolated tornado or too exist.

I am in South Wales, the area is so bad I’ve never seen it like this- we can’t take much more rain, my work colleague is from ponty and helping with the clean up, they need mops and hand sanitizer so will go out and get them if I can tomorrow, people have lost everything, businesses will go under from this. People are coming together and donating so much that most places say they have enough for now, ive seen furniture and white goods been given to so many, along with clothes and toys and books. Scary abou t more rain we can’t take any more. And yes-

Where the hell is our shameful government. Prince Charles is coming to ponty on Friday at least that’s something- Westminster should be ashamed

WreckTangled · 20/02/2020 07:05

Oh no we're off to gunwharf quays today. Am I going to get blown away?!

peoplepleaser1 · 20/02/2020 07:37

@OhYouBadBadKitten and everyone thank you so much for all you do on this thread.

I live in the East Midlands. My job involves visiting pets whilst owners are at work and this week has been horrendous as it's been almost impossible to reach some of them never mind actually keeping to time.

Mercifully it's been quieter than usual due to it being half term, and key roads are now mostly clear but I'm so worried that further rain will cause the roads to flood again.

Any thoughts @OhYouBadBadKitten? I appreciate that many are in a worse position but to me having pets waiting for me is a big deal.....

peoplepleaser1 · 20/02/2020 07:37

Sorry- bold fail!

DartmoorDoughnut · 20/02/2020 08:53

@Shookethtothecore reminds me of the scene in Cobra where they’re trying to persuade the PM not to go and to send a royal instead ...

OhYouBadBadKitten · 20/02/2020 09:08

peoplepleaser, unfortunately I think there will be more road flooding over the next week or so in your area.

In terms of today, the cold front will probably at its most active before it reaches the SE. I'm not expecting it to be quite so strong there. Nevertheless, it will be pretty noticeable.

Look how lively it looks on radar!

An interesting looking area on the radar.

Watch out as this comes through.

Dark, damp and drizzly here (Leicester) at the moment but first squall line is approaching.

Shookethtothecore · 20/02/2020 11:59

@DartmoorDoughnut yes! People are raging about the lack of government official coming, they are more polite to the royals I think

OhYouBadBadKitten · 20/02/2020 12:02

I can't believe the governments inaction. It beggars belief.

Looks like we have some snow showers in places behind the cold front.

OP posts:
GloriaSmud · 20/02/2020 12:24

Wouldn't surprise me about the snow showers in some places - although it isn't cold enough for snow here, the temperature's dropped from 10.9C to 5.9C in the last 90 minutes.

wetinworcs · 20/02/2020 13:42

I can't remember the last day it wasn't wet and windy. Horrible again overnight, it's a bit calm now but the skies are grey and rain isn't far away. The birds must be hiding somewhere, I fill my feeder daily but i haven't had to fill it for a week - that neve happens

borntobequiet · 20/02/2020 14:07

Don't worry wet, you're in for some variety soon

(BTW I'm near you)

pussycatinboots · 20/02/2020 14:44

OK, so we've had grey grey sky with rain and hail and wind.
Now the sun is out and blue sky, hardly a breath of wind!

Justmuddlingalong · 20/02/2020 15:32

It's freezing here, but had a wee spell of lovely blue sky and sunshine. Then I popped into Sainsburys and came out to dark grey clouds and hail.

Perihelion · 20/02/2020 22:36

Windy and squally showers today of rain, hail and wet snow.
Just looked at the weekend forecast and it's more of the same. It's like groundhog day.....Sad
Feeling rather grumpy with the relentless sogginess ( and that my once in a lifetime trip to Japan at Easter is looking more and more unlikely Sad )

Perihelion · 20/02/2020 22:38

Regarding bird feeders, the birds all hang around waiting for me to refill their table every morning.
