i'm just plonking this here, will be back later to fill in the details, but the Met Office have just named Storm Dennis for Sunday the 15th Feb.

In the mean time, here have a load of weather warnings including an amber for snow.

So, if you recall, I couldn't get to London last weekend because of Ciara. Am due to go to London again this Saturday (these are the only two trips I have planned all year!). Dennis can do one!

SexIsAProtectedCharacteristic · 11/02/2020 18:46

Ugh! Not more wind and rain!!!

zigzagbetty · 11/02/2020 18:57

Were in a caravan on the south Welsh coast this weekend, hope it's not a sea front one!

borntobequiet · 11/02/2020 19:04

NO SNOW please

LMW1990 · 11/02/2020 19:52

We are due to sail from Newcastle to Amsterdam on Saturday Confused. Ferries were cancelled this weekend and I think yesterday. DSS will be devastated if we can't sail!

MintToBee · 11/02/2020 22:36

Deep joy. I flew from Scotland in Storm Ciara and now I'm flying back in Dennis! 😶

OhYouBadBadKitten · 12/02/2020 09:08

The main risk with Dennis will be flooding I'm afraid, with heavy rain both Saturday and Sunday. However wind gusts will reach 50-60mph (perhaps higher in exposed areas) gusts once again to inland areas. So not as strong as Ciara, but many people will still see very similar level of gusts as they did last weekend.

In terms of which day is worse? I'm not sure at present. I expect that the met office will be extending wind warnings in the south to include Sunday.
Saturday could see some squall lines develop once again.

I’ve just let my coaches know that we may be cancelling the 3rd sailing training day in a row next Sunday. The parents will be so thrilled with me Hmm but we have a safety limit of 25 knots (and realistic comfort limit below that when it’s cold ). So the 1st session may well be in 10 days time - the one weekend I had carved out that I’d be away 😭 as there would be others knowing what to do by then...

Our forecast keeps changing in our area. Showed snow and rain every day until Monday last night now it's showing non till Saturday.

It's a beautiful day today but very cold once you get out and windy. Hoping the forecast doesn't change again!

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 12/02/2020 11:30

Checking in.

I’ve a relative called Dennis. In his words “Short, strong & full of wind” Wink. Looks like the rain will bring a fair amount of flooding in my area. Forecast to be heavy from 9am Saturday right through to 9pm Sunday, with no break.

GloriaSmud · 12/02/2020 11:38

Warnings for the next few days, including Sunday. (Like OYBBK, I thought the metoffice would include Sunday as well.]]

GloriaSmud · 12/02/2020 11:45

Wind gust chart for Saturday, 3pm.

Thanks both. Does it look to ease off at any point on Sunday? Wondering if the afternoon will be any better to travel.

Last weekend it definitely peaked early afternoon then was calmer.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 12/02/2020 14:28

Peak timings will depend on where in the country you are, but in general yes, at the moment, on Sunday, the isobars tend to widen out some as you get through the afternoon.
The only issue with that is that there will then be a huge amount of water on the roads.

Ah thanks OYBBK, I think I’ll just take a view on it on the day.

Smelborp · 12/02/2020 19:17

Checking in. I didn’t have plans yet but think I’ll plan a weekend in.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 12/02/2020 20:08

A weekend in sounds like a good idea.
I'm really hoping they cancel my event. I'm not sure it will be safe.

Whatthefoxgoingon · 12/02/2020 20:37

Oh god not another weekend in!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 12/02/2020 21:27

I'm afraid this is looking like a potential extreme rainfall situation in parts of the south by the end of Sunday.

If you live along the southern parts of the Severn, a long vulnerable parts of the Thames, or indeed along other flood prone rivers, please keep an eye on things and keep an eye on the Environment Agencies pages.

flood-warning-information.service.gov.uk/warnings

We will be seeing some amber warnings coming out in the next day or too.

I tend to get groundwater flooding under those conditions, so I'll be planning on blocking off my airbricks over the weekend.

Oh bugger, we’re due to be flying out of LGW at 7am on Sunday morning and friends following us out at midday.
The later flight was cancelled last Sunday. Fingers crossed Dennis blows himself out or off on a different course🤞🏻

Horrendous rain in the night here in sw Devon. Spectacular thunderstorm as Well. Lots of tired people in this part of the world today I suspect.
