i'm just plonking this here, will be back later to fill in the details, but the Met Office have just named Storm Dennis for Sunday the 15th Feb.

In the mean time, here have a load of weather warnings including an amber for snow.

Did you get any photos of the hail? What size was it? If there is any damage (I hope there isn't!) please can you report back.

DartmoorDoughnut · 17/02/2020 15:09

Just reporting in from South Wales, very easy journey yesterday, bit bum twitchy on the bridge but blue skies pretty much the whole way, very strange! Have strong winds and hail storms today between the sunshine 🤷🏻‍♀️

daisychain01 · 17/02/2020 15:24

Unfortunately I didn't get any photos but the sky is now leaden so I'm wondering if it will do a repeat performance. Just nipped out and my car seems OK fingers crossed, it would be a nightmare if there were loads of dents all over it Grin.

Mind you, compared to the poor people in Crickhowell, I really wouldn't complain. Such a terrible situation for them over there Sad

daisychain01 · 17/02/2020 15:29

Glad you made it over the bridge OK @DartmoorDoughnut, was it the PoW or the old M48 Bridge?

I have to use the old bridge most days to get to work and I've felt it sway on one or two occasions.

Since they dropped the tolls, the traffic back and forth has been significant. I heard a rumour they may levy "congestion charges" both ways, aka tolls by another name , to raise funds for ongoing repairs/maintenance. Will be a good way of controlling the volumes of traffic though..

OhYouBadBadKitten · 17/02/2020 17:48

Worcester's flooding looks very significant now?

SweetPeaPods · 17/02/2020 17:56

Opening the flood gates in Nottingham tonight to help the river Trent. Looks like lots of villages will be flooded over night

HerefordHoliday · 17/02/2020 18:23

So we definitely made the right decision to come home early. This is the house we were staying in Sad Just devastating for the people living there.

mogloveseggs · 17/02/2020 20:33

@Herefordholiday that's awful I cannot imagine.
Thinking of everyone affected
We've had a freak hailstorm an hour ago and another one has just started and the winds are still very high
Dd arrived safely yesterday and hopefully her journey back will be calmer weather wise.
Just to worry about her breaking bones whilst she's away now

BlackeyedSusan · 17/02/2020 21:18

A relative is flooded. Poor sod.

DartmoorDoughnut · 17/02/2020 21:52

@daisychain01 the PoW, hope the old bridge is ok

OhYouBadBadKitten · 17/02/2020 22:52

:( so much flooding everywhere.

So sorry that I disappeared. It's been a really stressful couple of days. Thank you for everyone's messages, it's been so difficult.

Somehow our house wasn't flooded but the house at the bottom of our street and the whole of the next street over were. So it was a very close call for us. It was so scary to see the water rising and not be able to do anything.

The local community is really pulling together. The damage caused is really coming to light now as most of the floods have receded.

Lots of our friends have been flooded and have lost so much. Local houses and businesses are still being pumped to remove the water. Whole streets are empty where people have had to leave their homes as they're inhabitable. The town is ruined. We have more rain on the way too, but it doesn't look like it'll cause as many problems.

Dcat1 still hasn't come home and has been missing since Friday morning. I hope wherever he is, he's warm and cosy and tucking into some tuna. We've told dss that he has gone on holiday and we're not sure when he'll be home. Dcat2 is starting to pine for him and has been waiting at the catflap for him to return. The local lost and found Facebook page is full of lost / deceased pets which is heartbreaking.

I wouldn't wish this on anyone. My thoughts are with everyone who's been flooded here and those who are bracing themselves for the storm to reach them.

My advice is don't wait, water can rise very quickly. Move anything you can upstairs including any important documents. Check if vulnerable neighbours need any help. The town hadn't flooded for decades, so most people assumed they would be ok. The river was much higher than its previous record and with our current climate, I can only assume this will be the first of many floods / landslides to come. Sad

Piggywaspushed · 18/02/2020 06:55

Oh no! I ma disproportionately invested in your DCat and I hope he comes back to you so much tor.

It all sounds awful.

My stupid ILs live in the red zone and decided to pop to the shops on Sunday and were surprised when they were turned back (they are incapable of spending a full day in their house : odd people) and, yesterday, they decided to drive down to Porthcawl. I expect to see them on the news at any point, standing on top of a car awaiting rescue.

torthecatlady · 18/02/2020 08:38

@Piggywaspushed me too!

There were a lot of people trying to drive through water which was up to their windows during the floods and consequently flooding their engines. I wonder if their insurance will cover them? We were told no travel unless it was an emergency!

wetinworcs · 18/02/2020 14:37

They've closed the road bridge over the Severn in Worcester now so everybody is having to go the long way round - Worcester only has one bridge over the river for cars.

wetinworcs · 18/02/2020 14:39

tor hoping for good news about your cat.

AmelieTaylor · 18/02/2020 18:43

@torthecatlady. good to hear from you and I’m very pleased your house wasn’t flooded! I hope bugger lugs makes his way home soon! I expect he’s found a soft touch with heating & tuna on tap to wait out the storm & chaos!

@mogloveseggs. Good to hear DD is there now - how long before they come home? Hopefully not too soon so the weather can calm down!

@Herefordholiday. That was a lucky/well timed escape!

💔to all of those flooded & worried about Possibly being.

Thoughts to everyone with worrying shite going in!

@OhYouBadBadKitten. It’s not insensitive - when we were flooded, a virtual party would have been a welcome relief from the nightmare.

daisychain01 · 18/02/2020 20:54

Today is peak day for flooding in my area. It's devastating seeing photos on our local Facebook group of all the beautiful bridges and villages along the Wye, at Chepstow, Bigsweir, Brockweir, Redbrook, Monmouth, all of these landmark places that we love so much are submerged in dirty water.

And people's properties are destroyed, my thoughts and prayers go out to them. I expect the water levels will return to a manageable level in the next 48-72 hours, but people in the area who've lived here all their lives cannot remember such a disaster as this.

The pub at Redbrook has a line on the wall marking the water level from the last time they were flooded, over 15 years ago, well the line is going to surpass that by several feet.

daisychain01 · 18/02/2020 20:55

There was a lovely photo of a man in his blue canoe, traversing the Lidl car park by Monmouth bridge.

perhapstomorrow · 18/02/2020 21:36

@OYBBK and @Gloria. What do you think about a possible storm Ellen? I've seen a few comments on Twitter but not too much else.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 18/02/2020 22:31

At the moment I'm not sure that I can see anything that would be a named storm, but I am concerned about upcoming rainfall. I'll chat more about that tomorrow.

YicketyYackMamasBack · 19/02/2020 06:21

@daisychain01 just seen on the news water levels peaking this morning too!
I work opposite Lidl and they’re also flooded. I’m on mat leave so haven’t been down there but it sounds awful. The man in the canoe in Lidl looked to be having a fab time though!

All very scary, especially now people around Monmouth have been told to stock up on bottled water as the water place is flooded they think they’ll have problems with water supplies. Really feel for everyone who’s been affected, thankfully I live fairly high up and out of the way.

Stay safe Flowers

OhYouBadBadKitten · 19/02/2020 08:18

I'm afraid we have potentially up to another 100mm of rain for north Wales and some heavy rain for south Wales today and tomorrow.
The met office have warnings out.

Our forecast for the next 6 days is rain. I know rivers near us are high but not much flooding really compared to other places.

There's a family who have lost their dog as it fell in to a river when it was having a drink and unfortunately they haven't been able to find it. I don't think it'll be good news when it is found but I hope they do find it.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 19/02/2020 09:17

All through next week we have additional rain that will cause further issues.

Especially notable times after today/tomorrow are Sunday, where once again Wales, central areas and perhaps the Thames catchment could be badly hit. Then Thursday 26th still keeps cropping up, with strong winds and flooding. I do wonder if we will see Storm Ellen on the 26th.

(I also wonder where our government are)
