i'm just plonking this here, will be back later to fill in the details, but the Met Office have just named Storm Dennis for Sunday the 15th Feb.

In the mean time, here have a load of weather warnings including an amber for snow.

Hailing here right now!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/02/2020 20:31
Shock

The MN Weather section was 10 years old last month. We missed our anniversary!

First ever thread in the Weather section:

Thinking of anyone dealing with storm related issues x

It's been fairly calm but wet here in Bournemouth for most of the day but the wind seems to be picking up again now here - am I right in thinking there may be a last hurrah imminent?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/02/2020 20:34

Actually, this is the first thread:
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/weather/889488-Welcome-to-the-weather-topic

Would it be too navel gazey to start a Happy Anniversary to us weather lovers (and haters) thread?

Thinking of anyone dealing with full on floods. I suffered this 2 years ago. Lost everything. Insurance battle still ongoing (myself and DD back in our home now, but the fear of it happening again never leaves you)

Wind is raging here. Not so the rain thankfully. But have family in South Wales with dreadful circumstances.

Waitingfordennis · 16/02/2020 20:53

Oooh do it Kitten we love weather!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/02/2020 20:53

I'm sorry to hear that FuckThisWind It must be bringing up bad memories.

WreckTangled · 16/02/2020 20:56

Thunder and rain here in Sussex

mogloveseggs · 16/02/2020 20:58

Very windy again in east lancs
DM's plane was half hour late landing at Manchester due to the diverted planes from other airports

dementedma · 16/02/2020 21:09

Wind picking up here in Central Scotland now

GreenTea70 · 16/02/2020 21:12

Near to Epsom Downs and we have just had a crazy 5 minutes of super strong wind and hail like a mini tornado came through. This is what was on NetWeather.

That's a rather nice cell there GreenTea. Any damage reports from it?

It's getting really windy again here in Cheshire, feels like it's been windy for a week!

MsJaneAusten · 16/02/2020 22:09

Very blustery here in Cumbria again now.

Justmuddlingalong · 16/02/2020 23:28

"Storm Ellen?"

OhYouBadBadKitten · 17/02/2020 08:41

We had a bit of a hail storm around 5am.

Storm Ellen, I dunno. Thursday looks wet and windy, but I'm not sure that it would qualify for a named storm. Then the next feature I'm keeping an eye on is the 26th Feb.

10 years. Where the actual hell has that gone?! I was basking in the sun on holiday in NZ when you did your first Weather Section thread. I just had a look at it & I remembered Norks asking about the Thames Streamer memorable because I kept picturing a Thames Steamer 🤣

That’s a LOT of weathering!! Lots & lots of advice & reassurance - lots of help with trips, event planning, prevention of flooding and SO much more. I wonder how many lives you’ve saved without knowing it?

Not to mention all the excitement 😃

🎉🎂Happy Anniversary!! 🌤🌪🌧❄️☔️🌊💦☃️🥃🥃

SweetPeaPods · 17/02/2020 10:21

Happy Anniversary!

Emmabryant123 · 17/02/2020 10:31

This blood weather is driving me mad.
Any chance of anything more settled in the south east soon ?
Rain and wind all week again apparently ffs

SweetPeaPods · 17/02/2020 10:48

Yep not looking good here this week either. Typical wet and windy half term.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 17/02/2020 11:45

It is a lot of weathering Grin We have a fab little community here.

I started a party thread www.mumsnet.com/Talk/weather/3824917-Happy-10-year-Anniversary-to-Weather-lovers-and-Weather-haters to celebrate all contributors to the weather section. Shit weather is the perfect time for a bit of a virtual party!

OP posts:
OhYouBadBadKitten · 17/02/2020 11:59

Actually, looking at the devastation going on in Wales, it's probably not a good time for a party. Sorry, it was crass of me.

borntobequiet · 17/02/2020 13:07

I set off half an hour early expecting to have to divert an extra 10 miles and use the motorway, and be late. However no problems at all...got to work an hour early.

daisychain01 · 17/02/2020 14:23

Happy 10th Anniversary 🍰
⛄️ ❄️ 🌞 ☔️ ⛅️ 🌈

Crickhowell in South Wales was badly affected when the River Usk burst its banks over the weekend. The Usk has flood defences in place, but even those weren't enough.

Just looking out of the window and lots of blue out there, but 5 minutes ago, you could hardly see anything for the massive hailstones the size of rocks. Just hope my car isn't dented!
