i'm just plonking this here, will be back later to fill in the details, but the Met Office have just named Storm Dennis for Sunday the 15th Feb.

In the mean time, here have a load of weather warnings including an amber for snow.

It’s weirdly calm here and rain is very light - unnerving because the Met office is still forecasting gusts in excess of 30 mph and very heavy rain. From my window I can see the river valley and the full extent of the floods, an astonishing amount of water.

BestIsWest · 16/02/2020 14:10

We’re in S. Wales, just to the west of the red zone. Still windy here but blue skies right now. Haven’t ventured out but hearing lots of reports of road closures. We’re on a hill but the road at the bottom was pretty much flooded yesterday afternoon.

Rowgtfc72 · 16/02/2020 14:10

My brother is in mitcham, backs on to a river. Hes just sent me a video of the water levels just touching the top of a bank. His is the nearest ground floor apartment. We have both just said it's only going to rise in the next 24hrs.
Stay safe @torthecatlady. Dcat will be in the dry hopefully.

What is strange? Sorry I must be missing something.

IslaMann · 16/02/2020 16:08

glenhaggis blue sky. No rain clouds. Sun is also out. Hoping that means those further north will see all of that tomorrow.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/02/2020 16:42

That's a lot of water!

Image shows estimated rainfall over the past 48 hours.

Some heavy showers this evening unfortunately.

and there was I looking for some unusual cloud formations or something - can you tell I'm a scientist?! Blush

Herefordholiday · 16/02/2020 16:55

Home safe and sound from Hereford. We came home a day early as the house was about to flood. Journey was awful and we had to keep turning round as roads were closed but found a route home eventually. Never seen anything like it before. So sorry for everybody in flood areas.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/02/2020 17:05

Well done Hereford, sensible decision. What a nightmare!

Wow, 70cm where I live according to that map. My bin would concur ( the lid blew off overnight)

glenhaggis · 16/02/2020 17:45

Between 45-50mm for us judgng by that map.
BestisWest did you mean CM? I think one of us is misreading the map and I hope it's you not me!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/02/2020 17:53

Don't be too surprised if we get some scattered thunderstorms tonight across England and Wales, with perhaps some hail and strong winds. Many parts, especially in Scotland, northern England, Wales and the SW could see some more severe gusts. Dennis isn't over yet.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/02/2020 17:53

70mm Grin

The map is underestimating totals in some areas though.

Out of nowhere we've just had a big thunder storm, torrential rain and very windy. Trampoline lifted up for the first time ever. Seems to have finished now. South Manchester

WreckTangled · 16/02/2020 18:24

Lots of main roads being closed here. There's no way to get south now luckily we can still get north if need be! It's not high tide yet though

AmelieTaylor · 16/02/2020 18:37

@OhYou

Sorry to hear about your trees 😢 I hope you can get hold of someone to come & help you get them sorted soon!

@wetinworcs. Fabulous photos- thank you!

I hope @torthecatlady is ok?!

Thoughts go out to everyone flooded and/or worried

@mogloveseggs Glad to hear DD’s crossing went ok. I’m guessing they should be at their destination now?

@Herefordholiday. I’m glad you got home ok & befire you had to be rescued off the roof!

I was tempted to go for a drive today to see what the local area was like, but a friend rang to say the police had
Closed off the road to the next village and the other routes are all trees both sides and don’t look that stable on a good day, so I decided to behave myself and stay home.
Another friend said the A roads into a nearby town were flooded.

I Imagine we will have trees falling across the roads around here over the next week or so, and a fair bit of flooding in the main road as it floods at the thought of a sun shower 🙄

But only minor inconveniences compared to the problems many are going to be facing😖. Having been through that in 2007 I can empathise with them.

daisychain01 · 16/02/2020 19:08

Just had the most almighty hail storm, just to remind us that Dennis hasn't gone completely.

On the news they mentioned 4 counties where flood warnings are the most prolific since records began. Our county was on that list - well, I guess having the Severn and the Wye running through, it was not surprising really!

Today has been a lot calmer and even a few blue bits. The bridge has been shut both ways all day. I'm going to work from home tomorrow, just in case Smile

Thoughts to everyone who has been suffering the devastation from Dennis, it really has been an utter nightmare x

BlackeyedSusan · 16/02/2020 20:01

W Mids. Just having a really blustery shower. Kids are travelling with their dad.
