Hello

ahem.

(please remember am an utter amateur and am not liable for any wrong decisions you make based on my guesswork forecasts Please use the met office for your official forecasts.

outlook for tonight:

cloud cover tonight will help keep temps 'up' in many parts of England, esp se as compared to last night. However there will still be a deep and penetrating frost over where there is little could cover and met office invent has very low temps in parts of Wales and Scotland.

Snow showers across the NE and southern Scotland spreading westwards. also in East Anglia and parts of the SE

Tomorrow: sees showers across East Anglia and the south east with possibly a Thames Streamer developing. The showers could spread quite far west. also showers scattered about central England in general.

Met office have advisories out for Sunday and Monday. Models disagree with the risk but in general it covers southern England, Midlands and Wales. Both intensity and extent are still very unclear at the moment.

After that? The gfs 12Z had an odd moment today and brought the cold to an end on the 13th. other models disagree, some are very snowy. We await with interest.

So much space!

Dh still planning on travelling tomorrow, but is being allowed to leave at lunch time, so I feel better about that.

Whether he makes it back down on sunday is a different matter!

Our local news forecast was for some snow here tonight, but I am not holding my breath.

norksinmywaistband · 07/01/2010 21:06

What if I may ask is a Thames streamer!!!

catinthehat2 · 07/01/2010 21:13

Marking my place....

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/01/2010 21:15

A Thames streamer is when the wind is in a specific direction, bringing in moisture off the sea (ene if remember correctly) and it basically brings a line of snow starting from the mouth of the Thames south westwards. Its what gave some parts the huge amount of snow in Feb.

Grin
norksinmywaistband · 07/01/2010 21:21

Great not looking good for me if that happens then, seeing as I am right at the mouth of the Thames

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/01/2010 21:23

norks, even if it doesn't I think you are in line for a lot fo snow showers tomorrow. sorry.

OP posts:
norksinmywaistband · 07/01/2010 21:28

You don't have to say sorry
Just have two small DC and have to get round to my care jobs in the morning( no choice have to do it) and if it's bad some of them may not get up or fed til nearly midday if I have to walk with the DC.
If I wasn't working I would be quite happy

PestoSnowMonster · 07/01/2010 21:29

What do you reckon for the pistes ski slopes of Brighton this coming weekend Kitten?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/01/2010 21:35

oh blimey norks. that's difficult.

Pesto - I think that you could get a decent amount saturday night and Sunday. Temp looks cold enough I think for it to count.

OP posts:
PestoSnowMonster · 07/01/2010 21:36

Yay!!! Fingers crossed I can get my skis out at the weekend then

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/01/2010 21:37

That would be brilliant! (would love to have a go at skiing) Hope you can!

PestoSnowMonster · 07/01/2010 21:39

I will, as long as DH gets them out of the loft for me...

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/01/2010 21:41

do you have to wax them or something?

OP posts:
PestoSnowMonster · 07/01/2010 21:42

They've got wax on from last time, but don't really want them to run too fast as I haven't had 'em out for a while

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/01/2010 21:45

wouldnt have wanted wax on our sledge today. Blimey it was a bit scary. Absolutely bombed along!

OP posts:
PestoSnowMonster · 07/01/2010 22:01

Yeah, we bombed on our sledge too. We started off on a ramp that the local snowboarders had built, and it gave us a flying start... kept falling off at the bottom though with a facefulls of snow

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/01/2010 22:03

oh wow!! we need a ramp too!! (or perhaps we dont as at the very bottom theres a stream!)

thegrammerpolicesic · 07/01/2010 22:33

OK what are our chances of more just North of London OYBKK?

And congrats on the new home!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 08/01/2010 08:27

Morning
grammer - good chances!! this afternoon and evening you'll prob get some light/moderate snow.

brief update this morning, better one at lunchtime.
snow showers moving across EA and the SE through the day, could poss make it as far across as Bournemouth.

Once again the NE to be hit substantially this afternoon. This will slide sw to poss get to the Manchester area tonight.

Highlands and southern scotland due more, partic. tonight.

Widespread scattered snow showers elsewhere, perhaps the SW escaping.

more on Sunday later.

I think more models are calling for a breakdown from meedweek on but I'll take a proper look at that later.

NoahAndTheWhale · 08/01/2010 08:30

Had a little bit overnight on north herts/beds border - ie enough to mean the roads are a little snowy at the mment. Smaller roads obviously still have the compacted stuff

Lionstar · 08/01/2010 08:31

Is that a breakdown of society as we know it?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 08/01/2010 08:38

if it doesn't warm up then probably!
I think the sign will come when we run out of cat litter as a nation. That will be a baaaaad sign!
