Seems a bit silly having multiple threads going when it might be quite a lively summer. It looks lively again this week anyhow.

We have met office thunderstorm warnings for the next three days.

Tomorrow storm potential looks to be areas away from the SE, including northern England and the Midlands, but I'm also keeping an eye on the SE for tomorrow night. By mid week the storm potential really grows though and by Wednesday we could have some really cracking storms.

Thunderstorms are notoriously difficult to forecast. Not only whether they will happen, but where they will happen. I'll see if I can find the link to the excellent met office tweet about that earlier this week.

It's all being driven by very hot air being drawn up from Africa, through mainland Europe, which could see temps close to 40C. We could see temperatures touching 30C by Thursday. It's going to be humid and uncomfortable I'm afraid.

If you are in London look up at the clouds. If it looks all lumpy bumpy like dangling boobs then what you are seeing is mammatus clouds. Relatively unusual here.

It’s like someone put a huge strobe light in the sky here, sheet and fork together. I bloody love storms

Icylightning · 25/07/2019 21:11

No bumpy clouds here, sky just looks much much lower than normal!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/07/2019 21:15

wait until the back end of the storm Icy and have another look.

www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/learn-about/weather/types-of-weather/clouds/other-clouds/mammatus is a very dramatic example of mammatus.

Storms are developing in a similar position to,Tuesday night over spain now, but I'm not sure if they will fizzle out or just feed along the same path as the current eastern storms (which have continued their eastward trend)

Booby clouds.....

TheGlaikitRambler · 25/07/2019 21:38

Do you think any of the thunder storms will hit the Dundee area?

Monstermissy36 · 25/07/2019 21:48

We've had some far away looking lightening here in Norfolk but apart from that just a bit blowy.... I expect we will get something soon

Piggywaspushed · 25/07/2019 21:51

It's been windy here all day and now it's dark the wind has dropped. I feel hotter than I have all bloody day.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/07/2019 21:52

I don't think they will hit Dundee.

Booby clouds are great. Grin

My weather app reckons it's raining where I live. I'm sat outside in the cool as sitting on the leather sofa is playing havoc with the skin on the back of my legs 😄

crazycurry · 25/07/2019 21:58

What's it like over in the east? The lightning map is like an Xmas tree.

Piggywaspushed · 25/07/2019 22:03

I'm in the East. But not East enough it seems.

Wineisafruit · 25/07/2019 22:17

Huge storm over Norwich way. Constant lightning and gusty winds. Massive fork lightning but not much rain where I am.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/07/2019 22:18

The Spanish storms are moving northwards to the west of the current storms, so it's possible that they will be part of a system that affects more central southern areas.

I suggest an early night Grin

Ds is having other ideas about early night ... It is too hot to keep chasing him. 30 degrees in the kitchen.

BlackeyedGruesome · 25/07/2019 22:27

@OhYouBadBadKitten

Thank you for your weather postings today. Really appreciated! What a good day to not be working!

Thanks to @GloriaSmud too for thunder warnings.

Bellasblankexpression · 25/07/2019 22:30

Do you think Chelmsford way is likely to get anything kitten? Thanks for all your updates!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/07/2019 22:36

No guarantees Bella, but there's a reasonable chance.

You're welcome Blackeyed - I've enjoyed it :) Good luck with getting some sleep.

I'm taking my own advice now. Good night!

I'm as far East as you can get and the thunder hasn't been too bad but the lightening has been almost constant, lots of rain too...

Perihelion · 25/07/2019 23:17

Best description of mammatus clouds ever OYBBK Grin

Piggywaspushed · 26/07/2019 07:12

At last! Thunder !

SistemaAddict · 26/07/2019 07:19

I woke up to a huge storm at 1.45am. Loads of lightening compared to thunder. It went on for about half an hour. I'm so clad it's cooler this morning!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 26/07/2019 07:27

Grin Peri

I've overslept! Heard some thunder at ? o'clock and then was out for the count again.

Last night if any of you experienced a sudden massive rise in temperature it was a 'heat burst' - when a thunderstorm suddenly collapses. Extraordinary!!

Thunder over NE London again and lots of sudden sharp rain, no lightening I can see. So cool compared to yesterday, I feel so relieved.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 26/07/2019 08:59

There's a little trail of thunderstorms.
