Thunderstorm watch summer 2019

Seems a bit silly having multiple threads going when it might be quite a lively summer. It looks lively again this week anyhow.

We have met office thunderstorm warnings for the next three days.

Tomorrow storm potential looks to be areas away from the SE, including northern England and the Midlands, but I'm also keeping an eye on the SE for tomorrow night. By mid week the storm potential really grows though and by Wednesday we could have some really cracking storms.

Thunderstorms are notoriously difficult to forecast. Not only whether they will happen, but where they will happen. I'll see if I can find the link to the excellent met office tweet about that earlier this week.

It's all being driven by very hot air being drawn up from Africa, through mainland Europe, which could see temps close to 40C. We could see temperatures touching 30C by Thursday. It's going to be humid and uncomfortable I'm afraid.

Blue sky appearing again. No rain. Nearby strikes on lightning maps but they must be very high up because I can't hear them.

Ooh, thunder rumbling now...

Big one that passed over the pennines active around Prudhoe and Hexham, right now.

Do we think the Brighton area of Sussex could get some storms,?

Romney Marsh Kent is quite dark and rumbly with the odd flash but mostly I think it's passing us by. I'm still sitting outside in the spitting rain it's a touch cooler but mainly due to the breeze that's sprung up I think.

It's starting to look a lot livelier now on Real Time Lightning Map.

The wind is picking up on the Eastbourne live webcam. I'm in Cheshire and not sure if we will get a storm today so hoping to see some on the webcam!

Are we likely to get any stormy action in North Yorkshire?

Had two rumbles of thunder in Chelmsford so I got all excited... then nothing I hope that wasn’t it!

Eurgh the sun’s back out! Looks like the black clouds are buggering off. Noooo come back!

Storm here in Essex. Still very hot so went out when I heard the thunder hoping to stand in the rain and cool off. Suddenly got pelted with large hailstones, painful!

Ouch @beerandbiscuits ! Do you mind if I ask where in Essex you are?

Bellas I'm near Colchester.

It looks like a real belter in the East but sadly (for me) it's too far east. I'm hoping more will develop to the west of them, but there's no guarantee It always seems to be the way. In the North it appears to be petering out now.

Just had a short sharp shower in Manchester.

Nasty wild wind following behind the lightning here in Kent. All of a sudden it slammed the windows shut and blew like hell through the house. It's howling around like a gale right now.

Hardly any rain after the hailstones but lots of thunder and lightning, still going on. Feels even more hot and humid.

AMAZING thunderstorm here. I wish I could attach videos, huge hailstones and the sky sounded like it was falling in, lightening after lightening after lightening

Ah I’m near Chelmsford and we had a tiny bit of rain and some feeble barely there thunder and now it looks like it’s blown over
I am incredibly jealous of everyone who had a belter of a storm or some temp clearing rain, it’s still super hot here
BBC still forecasting we are due a storm at midnight not sure that’s very reliable though
