For people confused about how much snow they will get - to be honest, it's impossible to know. It's exactly the same as in a showery day, trying to guess exactly how many mm of rain you will get. Only with snow a mm of rain looks quite a lot more when it falls as snow.

In the warning area generally 3-5 cm, some areas perhaps double that.

I think at least some of Somerset will see snow, perhaps preceded by rain or sleet first.

Ok thank you OYBBK, will have to play it by ear.We live on the hills so normally have a bit more than the towns which is understandable.
I hope that everyone stays safe and warm over the next 24 hours.

KickBishopBrennanUpTheArse · 31/01/2019 07:42

Just checking in so I can keep up with the excellent information on this thread. Thanks both Flowers

I'm at the top end of the snow warning area so not too hopeful for much tonight if it's mostly south of Birmingham.

fortyfourfeasts · 31/01/2019 07:52

Many thanks for your time on here for us! It's sparked a real interest for me. Woken up to freezing fog in Nottingham!

PAtothegruesometwosome · 31/01/2019 07:55

Thanks for all your advice ladies, you are total weather gurus!

Am I guessing it's pretty much set in stone now that the weather is further south and all the snow is missing Stafford completely?

CarpeVitam · 31/01/2019 08:02

What are the chances of snow in West Yorkshire! Please Smile

OhYouBadBadKitten · 31/01/2019 08:09

I think so PA.

Carpe, I dont think at the moment that you'll see any.

I'm on a very limited train WiFi now, so I'm doing this from memory. It's testing my precise geography.somewhat Blush Grin

Hard frost in London overnight. Really hoping for some snow later.

randomsabreuse · 31/01/2019 08:23

Light snow South East Shropshire. Looked like freezing fog initially but definitely snow

gizmosslave · 31/01/2019 08:24

Hi All, always watched these threads but thought I’d join in for once.

I am in Swindon, so southish, we are forecast 5-10cm I believe, with snow from 4pm tonight all the way through to 7am.

Hoping for a snow day as we’ve been told it’s going to snow for the last 2 weeks and nothing yet!

vintagechick43 · 31/01/2019 08:25

Morning all, just wondering if Warwickshire will see any snow tonight? DD is desperate for a snow day tomorrow.

CarpeVitam · 31/01/2019 08:26

Well that's disappointing! But thank you 😊

OhYouBadBadKitten · 31/01/2019 08:30

Can I just say, my train ride is breathtaking in its beauty this morning - sun rising through freezing fog and the trees all white and frosty and sparkling.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 31/01/2019 08:31

And now there is snow on the ground. Oh happy days.

tiredvommachine · 31/01/2019 08:32

-4 this morning in Cambridgeshire.

Mummylife2018 · 31/01/2019 08:33

No snow at all in Harrogate, North Yorkshire. We never get any extreme weather :( Snow is rarer than thunderstorms for us...... Envy

stayathomegardener · 31/01/2019 08:36

Just wanted to thank you both and say how much I rely on you.

You advised us when to start hay making last summer and were invaluable yesterday planning a return trip Cheshire to Gloucestershire.

Plus I found a real time snow map which was great.

Far more accurate than the official weather forecast, no dramatic over exaggeration like my Google news feed and posters own local injections really help too.

My only criticism is I would love to see both of your names hi lighted as OP's, would be so much easier for a quick check when rushing.

ThanksThanks(one each)

lubeybooby · 31/01/2019 08:38

Morning, -5 with a 'feels like' of -9

expecting snow from about 3pm (south shropshire, looks on gfs like we only just make it into the main precip area now)

Florasnotin · 31/01/2019 08:40

Freezing fog and car says -5 here! Essex

magimedi · 31/01/2019 08:41

-4.8C here & no snow -& none forecast. Hooray!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 31/01/2019 08:42

It would be fab if the others name was highlighted too when the other of us starts a thread.

Thank you for your lovely feedback Blush

Well we still have a lot of snow left from Tuesday night’s blizzard. So am hoping for a decent top-up tonight. But it’s a beautiful clear blue sky day at the moment so the South Downs look beautiful ❄️😎❄️

Mummylife2018 · 31/01/2019 08:44

@OhYouBadBadKitten @GloriaSmud

Carpe, I dont think at the moment that you'll see any.

I take this applies to North Yorkshire as well? X

cloudberry · 31/01/2019 08:57

Thank you both. I too watch this over and above mainstream forecasters! Beautiful morning in Herefordshire, heavy frost, fog first thing but sun’s risen and it’s cold but glorious. We are in the snow zone for later. Children want to know if I’ll come in earlier to collect them. They finish at 5.40 this evening and school is 12 miles away near Malvern Hills. Could be interesting later Confused
