For those in the south, watch out for the wind tonight gusting to 70mph in places.

You weren’t wrong about that wind! Wondering what adventures we’ll have on the school run this morning. All those poor trees already weakened by the weight of the snow.

GiantKitten · 16/02/2019 15:22

Does the “atmospheric river” dumping rain on California & snow on the Pacific NW have anything to do with the SSW?

CaptainBrickbeard · 16/02/2019 15:31

So, not much hope for snow to come at all then really? I’m not happy about this warm sunshine I February!

GloriaSmud · 16/02/2019 19:32

I think it was one of the factors behind their weather, GiantKitten.

CaptainBrickbeard ~ at the moment snow looks unlikely. The GFS is looking cold though but it's for ages away ~ in 2 weeks time, the 2nd/3rd March!

CaptainBrickbeard · 16/02/2019 19:42

I would take snow in March! I love the springtime but I don’t want it in February and I’ll be disappointed if we get no snow at all this winter. I’d rather have it late than not at all!

Abibranning · 23/02/2019 08:34

Any more snow possible?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/02/2019 08:42

GFS seems to think possibly so in early-mid March. Mostly over Scotland, then parts of Wales and by the end of the model run it introduces the idea of more widespread snow.

Early early days though.

We saw some of last year's photos from March - pretty heavy snow.

GloriaSmud · 24/02/2019 11:04

Remembering the 'Beast from the East' ~ BBC report on the weather that was occurring this time last year.

megletthesecond · 24/02/2019 21:57

Kids have been in shorts and playing out barefoot today.

I'm going to be awfully confused when temperatures return to normal.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/02/2019 18:23

I also reached 20c. Which is really quite incredible.

GloriaSmud · 26/02/2019 16:22

21C has been reached at Northolt.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 03/03/2019 21:39

oops, tonight's snow warning should go in this thread.

An unsettled week coming up but is there a return to winter from next weekend?
Metoffice Outlook from Friday onwards....

Friday 8 Mar - Sunday 17 Mar
A fine day for many on Friday, although there will be some showers in the north and east, these will possibly be wintry on the hills. It will probably cloud over from the west later on Friday, with a spell of wet and windy weather spreading to most parts on Saturday, before clearing to sunshine and showers on Sunday. Staying unsettled into next week with further showers or longer spells of rain and strong winds at times, with gales in places. It will be turning colder, with any showers turning wintry at times, especially in the north. It continues unsettled into the middle of the month, with further spells of wet and windy weather at times, which will be interspersed by brighter, colder and showery interludes.

Monday 18 Mar - Monday 1 Apr
It will continue unsettled at first, with Atlantic frontal systems bringing spells of rain and strong winds, which will be interspersed by brighter, colder and showery interludes. The heaviest rainfall is likely to be in the west, with snow likely over higher ground in the north and possibly to low levels at times. Temperatures will vary day to day, with spells of milder and colder than average conditions, with passage of Atlantic frontal systems. Further night time frosts are possible in quieter spells. However, there is the chance of weather systems becoming slow-moving during this period, which will bring the increased chance of longer drier spells of weather at times.

GloriaSmud · 09/03/2019 11:35

And wind warnings for Tuesday and Wednesday (I think that might become a 'named-storm' as it's looking a bit of a nasty one.)

OhYouBadBadKitten · 09/03/2019 21:15

Well done Gloria, spreading myself a bit thin at the moment. Most of the risk is from northern England upwards, over high ground. Wales too.
Perhaps some wet snow to lower levels.

No problem, OYBBK Smile
Our snow didn't hang around and it's now a damp and chilly 4C (Leicester)

Snowy scenes here, Buxton/Leek area.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 10/03/2019 12:09

Our wind is causing all sorts of issues with trees down, power cuts, strongest storm we've had in quite a while.

Thanks for the update, OYBBK and Gloria Wink
Snow didn't last long this morning, NE Derbyshire.
There's a warning for heavy snow here tonight. I expect (hope) it will be like this morning and not last long?Hmm
