For the first time ever I seem to have bought the cooling fans (ours broke) before the heat wave. Go me! Grin

Of course that means that the heat wave won't happen in my area.

Possible maximum temperatures for Thursday Shock

Netweather's thoughts on this week. Could be something fresher coming along for next weekend?
Thoughts from TheWeatherOutlook as well.

Metoffice Outlook...

Outlook for the UK over the next 6-30 days

UK Outlook for Thursday 28 Jun 2018 to Saturday 7 Jul 2018:

The final few days of June will stay dry and sunny across the UK, with only the far north and northwest of Scotland seeing cloudier skies at times, and a chance of rain. Temperatures will continue to rise for all parts, but especially so across England and Wales where it will be hot. The heat may spark an isolated thunderstorm towards next weekend, but the chance of catching one will be low and the majority of the UK will stay fine and dry. As we head into the start of July, most areas should continue to see plenty of fine, sunny and very warm weather. Northern and western areas may however begin to see cloudier conditions pushing in, with the chance of some wet and windy weather here.

UK Outlook for Sunday 8 Jul 2018 to Sunday 22 Jul 2018:
It is too early to give any specific detail for July, but the likelihood is that we will see a good deal of dry and settled weather across many parts of the UK. There are some early indications that in the north and west, more changeable conditions could bring cloudier skies, and possibly some wet and windy weather at times. There is also the chance that the warm weather could lead to a few thunderstorms in the south of the UK, but on the whole it will be a mainly dry and warm picture.

thanks for the summary Gloria

my ipad has issues with various sites crashing and running slowly, mostly MN and weather things! I don't know why.

I have noticed that BBC, XC, and Accuweather all vary quite a bit for my postcode this week. XC seem to think it will be back to 21 by Friday which none of the others do.

I can take a bus rather than Tube to work but it takes about 90 mins. It can be preferable though - I have to connect 2 buses but they have windows, they are not the crazy Heatherwick design ones.

Parents were asking about rain for the garden, I told them no hope and watered it yesterday while I was there.

GloriaSmud · 25/06/2018 11:42

TheWeatherOutlook wonders whether today could be the hottest day of the year.

Todays thoughts from Netweather.

GloriaSmud · 25/06/2018 11:48

Lighthouse ~ metoffice are going for a slightly cooler 22C for us on Friday as well. I think when it comes to rain, there might be some coming up from the south (which if I've read it right, might be thundery in nature), next weekend (Sunday/Monday sort of time.)

LighthouseSouth · 25/06/2018 12:20

hi Gloria
thanks for your reply

funnily enough XCweather has now changed and has got in line with everyone else - that the heat won't break till Wednesday 4th July, so their Friday 21 has changed to 28 for my postcode. The variations in forecast are quite something!

GloriaSmud · 25/06/2018 16:12

Metoffice have issued a Level 2 for some areas on their Heat Health Watch page.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/06/2018 16:50

We've reached 30c in my properly screened weather station.

GloriaSmud · 25/06/2018 19:27

I think we got to 27 or 28C here (my weather station said 30C this afternoon but it was in the sun at the time!) A breeze got going so the heat hasn't been too bad. DH though has been feeling the heat because (and with impeccable timing!) the air conditioning control unit has gone in his car. So his face was more this colour >>Angry when he got home this evening!

I noticed on the school run this afternoon how road surfaces are beginning to melt in the heat and was saying to DDs, that it's noticeable how brown the grass is beginning to go. 'Tis all beginning to look rather Mediterranean out there now.

GloriaSmud · 26/06/2018 08:41

More heat today (but looks like there might be a bit of a thundery breakdown this weekend for some areas.)

TheDowagerCuntess · 26/06/2018 08:42

Whoop! Leaving winter behind for 10 days in London on Thursday! ☀️

Sallycinnamum · 26/06/2018 08:47

Thanks Gloria. I'm sort of enjoying this weather but my garden is desperate for some rain. I'm just East of London so any chance of a few showers next week?

GinGeum · 26/06/2018 09:14

It is glorious in Hertfordshire. I am feeling for my black dogs though. I just hope we still have nice weather for the wedding the weekend after next, I don’t mind if it’s not as hot, but I fear it is going to be wet by then Sad

GloriaSmud · 26/06/2018 10:35

Sally ~ I know ~ my garden and allotment could do with some decent rain as well. Something more unsettled is looking to be coming this way from about Saturday evening onwards so hopefully, that means some rain. Still looking warm for the south/SE though next week though.

Gin ~ that weekend is waaaaay ahead but at the moment you've kind of got it right, as in it's looking warm but with the possibility of (could be thundery) showers.

Dowager ~ Grin

Today's thoughts from Netweather.

PestoSurfissimos · 26/06/2018 10:43

Nice and hot here 😎

OhYouBadBadKitten · 26/06/2018 12:25

More models are coming into line with a bit of a breakdown at the weekend. The rain will be very welcome. I suspect that it won't be a long lasting breakdown though, at the moment I suspect heat will begin to build again after a few more unsettled cooler days.

LighthouseSouth · 26/06/2018 13:53

Evening Standard saying 33 on Thursday in London - any thoughts Kitten and Gloria? Thanks!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 26/06/2018 14:39

I think it's quite possible depending on how much the easterlies get going. They may peg temperatures back a little.

LighthouseSouth · 26/06/2018 14:40

oh no! I was hoping they were exaggerating.

Delatron · 26/06/2018 15:11

Thanks oybbk will the breakdown be Saturday or Sunday do you think? I'm camping Sat night (Oxfordshire) and it will
be a shame if we get rain then after this lovely weather. Though I know the gardens need it. Fingers crossed it will be Sunday afternoon!

GloriaSmud · 26/06/2018 16:41

In some places, gritters might be used ~ to try and prevent damage to roads!

LighthouseSouth · 26/06/2018 17:00

the tarmac was melty and bouncy at the weekend when I went for my run; I shudder to think what it's like now!
