To complement the Summer weather thread.

Tomorrow could see some thunderstorms in places across England, but by tomorrow evening, the main area of risk appears to be in the central southern areas (revised forecast from earlier) , where frequent lightning and small hail could form in any storms that evolve.

I'm.currently at Chessington for the weekend and my there appears to be thunder forecast right through tonight and all day tomorrow. Does that just mean they are expecting some but don't know when or where? Or does it really look like prolonged storms?

GloriaSmud · 26/05/2018 16:09

Rat ~ Netweather describe any storms as 'hit and miss' so I think they could be anywhere in the warning areas but are more likely as temperatures increase/it gets towards the evening and overnight today and tomorrow.

RatOnnaStick · 26/05/2018 17:43

Thanks Gloria. I'm sitting in my room looking out at the giraffes right now with hazy sunshine. As long as it holds off til the kids are in bed later I shall be happy.

gottaslowdown · 26/05/2018 17:46

Rat My memory is so terrible, I was trying to work out where you could possibly be with giraffes outside your window waiting for the storm Shock

Dd is away camping with the scouts, she was very excited on Friday when she left, about the prospect of being in a tent during a thunder storm. Confused I hope she has pitched it well Grin.

gottaslowdown · 26/05/2018 18:12

Oh wow Rat That's beautiful! You don't really want tall sticky up necks in lightning do you Grin

Good Luck!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 26/05/2018 18:19

sorry, I've been insanely busy recently, not known which way is up! Literally just stopped work a few minutes ago after starting at 9 this morning.

It does look possibly pretty exciting tonight for central southern areas, extending out towards Dorset.

I don't know who is behind this page and therefore how accurate they will be but it looks interesting.

So risks I think are for very heavy rain, frequent lightning and small hail. Bring it on, but not while I'm walking home from the pub!

I've just seen about camping. I would advise moving into a vehicle if an active thunderstorm moves overhead.

It's very humid here central south.
I've found opening all windows fully and shutting blinds/curtains has been the only way to keep cool!

I'm most worried about driving for an hour at 7am if it's bad.
Because if it's awful overnight it's likely I'll be tired as well.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 26/05/2018 18:36

It is humid and very windy too, plenty of wind sheer looking at the clouds moving earlier.

Looks like quite a bit of TS activity over Exeter. I wonder how many Met Office staff who are still working are looking out of the windows instead of their computer screens!

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 26/05/2018 19:34

Rain thunder and lightning just kicked in here in SW.

kooshbin · 26/05/2018 19:37

There's a massive storm to the west of Paris. If that tracks north, it could get very interesting on the south coast.

Jungfraujoch · 26/05/2018 20:43

Waiting in Dorset.

KatieMoragsMum · 26/05/2018 21:11

On north Devon it has just suddenly got very dark, windy and frequent rumbles of thunder overhead. Sky is a strange colour. It has been humid today. Oh here comes rain. Kitty cat has climbed onto my lap, she’s not keen!

PunxsutawneyHogwash · 26/05/2018 21:18

In the middle of a great storm right now here in West Somerset. Dark grey sky with an orange hue, heavy rain, and massive claps of thunder and flashes of lightning.

I am right on the coast and have a great view!

Wow! MOFO thunder and lightning together just then!

Lowdoorinthewal1 · 26/05/2018 21:19

Thunder seems to have been and gone in North Dorset.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 26/05/2018 21:19

I think you’ve got what we had earlier Katie. Hasn’t really done much for the humidity tbh.

BestIsWest · 26/05/2018 21:26

Coming our way in Swansea in about an hour I think.

KatieMoragsMum · 26/05/2018 21:32

The wind just completely stopped. Giant lightning flashes and thunder rumbles all going on at the same time. Impressive and powerful. Feel like we’re in the middle of something. Hope it’ll rain to clear the air and give my garden a drink.

TERFragetteCity · 26/05/2018 21:40

OOh am in the Midlands and am hoping for storms as have 25 buckets waiting to fill at the allotment as we are out of water.

WinnieTheW0rm · 26/05/2018 21:49

Nothing here yet, but might be on its way.

Every time I've looked at the forecast today, it seems to be different!

But the likelihood of rain (and one assumes thunder) in the next couple of hours has shot up
