To complement the Summer weather thread.

Tomorrow could see some thunderstorms in places across England, but by tomorrow evening, the main area of risk appears to be in the central southern areas (revised forecast from earlier) , where frequent lightning and small hail could form in any storms that evolve.

Well, it's now torrential again. My pond is almost set to over flow (hang on newts!), so I would say 5cms.
We really have had a battering. Started raining at about 7pm bigtime.

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 31/05/2018 21:47

I bet those newts are wondering what's hit them!

GrumpyBagFace · 31/05/2018 21:56

There's low cloud and it's muggy but nothing here in Devon.

I wouldn't mind an inaccurate forecast if we didn't live next door to the met office! Look out of the window FFS.

Crumbelina · 31/05/2018 21:58

I'd love to be in southern Germany right now - the lightning map looks epic!

lovestea · 31/05/2018 21:58

Hah Perfectly! Yup. Poor newts. I'm in the pond and now I'm out of the pond!

The problem with the pond water being so high is that the blackbirds then catch the newts, batter them to death on the patio and then feed them to their chicks. So I try and keep the pond water a little lower.

Nature can be so cruel! But it has stopped raining at last.

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 31/05/2018 21:59

I shouldn't laugh Grumpy but 😂

lovestea · 31/05/2018 22:21

And now it's raining again, hard. One of the major roads into Oxford is now closed due to flooding. We are a very wet city.

OYBBK, do you know are we going to get a repeat of this tomorrow?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 31/05/2018 22:37

I think you may get more tomorrow Lovestea, but I don't think to the same extent, I think it may be more Cambridgeshire/Bedfordshire tomorrow.

Don't hold me to that though! If the met office are struggling, then I don't have much chance.

Poor newts!

That is a lot of rain!

current flood warnings

Thank you OYBBK, I guess a day on the allotment is off the cards! It was huge amount of rain so will be too wet to do any work.
You are such a star at prediction and explanation.

SoleBizzz · 01/06/2018 00:33

think I just heard thunder.... was hailing here earlier in Brum.

Perihelion · 01/06/2018 05:11

We're due torrential rain this afternoon in Edinburgh ( possibly with lightning, but storms usually run out of such power here ). I think I'd better remove some water from my wee washing up bowl pond.

Torrential rain will make a change, as for the last few days, it's been mental haar.

Ethelswith · 01/06/2018 07:30

Any idea if it's likely to tip it down for The Derby?

The forecasts seem to keep changing all the damned time, and even though the weekend is upon us, I'm still feeling confused. It might be drying up a bit, but 'odd isolated shower' means it's going to bucket down on some people, doesn't it?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/06/2018 07:42

Ethel I think it should be ok, but you are right in that we are in uncertain territory....

Next week at the moment more settled I hope. Though mainland europe still looks very unsettled, so don't bank on that either!

youarenotkiddingme · 01/06/2018 08:45

Don't think we are set for more storms today?

So why's it soooooo humid?!

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 01/06/2018 08:58

Same here kidding. No more storms forecast. Heavy rain from 2pm. Whereabouts are you?

Papergirl1968 · 01/06/2018 09:51

We had nothing in the West Mids, unless I slept through it, but 15 miles away they were getting multiple lightning strikes.

BastardGoDarkly · 01/06/2018 10:28

Still no sign of even rain, let alone storms, here in East anglia.

Just a very weird foggy muggy atmosphere Hmm

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/06/2018 10:48

It feels like we might get more downpours. Probably timed for when I need to go to the bank.

OP posts:
GloriaSmud · 01/06/2018 10:53

We have 'foggy and muggy' here (Leicester) as well. I think if the sun breaks through, it could get quite warm and we might have the chance of thunderstorms (that probably goes for other 'foggy and muggy places' as well today.)

There has been disruption caused by storms.
Today and tomorrow's weather warnings.

GloriaSmud · 01/06/2018 10:55

Didn't make it to the bank yesterday then, OYBBK?

GloriaSmud · 01/06/2018 11:45

Sun is out here and it's a warm 22C. I'm hoping that as it's broken through earlier than yesterday, we might be in with more of a chance of thundery rain/ a storm later.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/06/2018 12:24

no. I'm going to dash out during my lunch break. ie now. Wish me luck Grin

OP posts:
brizzledrizzle · 01/06/2018 12:36

Still muggy, I thought storms were supposed to break that up. We need a big one but without the amounts of rain to cause more flooding.
