Today's thunderstorm potential

Plenty of potential for some rather juicy thunderstorms today. As always, just because they are forecast, it doesn't mean that everyone in an area will get one - its quite possible for one town to be hit badly and the other stay dry.

So we have a low pressure interacting with a trough, to destabilise the atmosphere. High values of CAPE (convective available potential energy) However, the risk is still fairly marginal at present.

I think the strongest risk is to the west of the IOW this afternoon, evening, then developing further north in the west as we go through the night, where storms could become severe. Potential for large hail, frequent lightning and flash flooding. A low potential at present for funnel clouds.

Disappointed by the lack of storm in Gosport temp has jumped up 6 degrees in 2hrs it's so warm. We need a good storm

Massive spots of rain and a big rumble of thunder in West London - hoping for a nice strong downpour to clear the air

The storm seems to have finally gone over here. But I know what you all mean about the humidity. I'd have thought that the storm would have freshened the air somewhat. Final rainfall total of 16.5 mm, temperature dropped from 24.6 to 18.5 and still going down; but humidity got as low as 50% mid-afternoon and then started going up again, it's at almost 90% now.

Fab lightening and thunder here 5 miles outside Henley on Thames, in the Chilterns.

Here in South Dorset we keep getting teased.

Rumble here, rumble there, then nothing for an hour or two, then more rumbling etc. I want a good storm! Flash flooding, not so much.

Lots of lightning in Herts now, but nothing else..

Herts/Beds/Bucks border has quite a dramatic storm at the moment. Husband is trying to take a good enough lightning shot to send to the BBC tomorrow .

More storms to come overnight, in the meantime the storm that continued past Reading has developed a little hook, indicating potential severe weather. If there is any damage associated with the storm please let me know here or by pm.

NW London- raining and thundering for the past hour. Lightning started about 20 minutes ago. Love a storm!
