...Anyone else's heart sink at heatwaves?!

Agh! Just looked at the weather app and next week looks like hell! On Tuesday, when we have a big event and I'll be running everywhere and driving for hours, it'll be over 30 Confused

Every bloody heatwave I get sick, moody, and then also don't sleep for weeks. Every time! No idea why. I dread them

... Are there any fellow heat-haters about on Mumsnet who fancy a whine? may well just be me

OP posts:

Summer seems to be getting later and later each year, usually starts to cool down end of October now Sad

LoisPuddingLane · 19/07/2016 20:33

And as an example of people with different heat tolerances, my boss, even in the summer, will say she's chilly and close her office door when I've got the window wide open and I'm sitting in as few clothes as is decent. People are just different.

Kallyno · 19/07/2016 21:34

Ugh, someone back a page posted it was 32 degrees and 90% humidity. That is not average Aussie weather - that is a hot day in the summer in SE Q'land where everyone has air con at home, in cars and in most work places and live in homes designed for the heat and still many would struggle. Proper horrid, hope you get a nice storm soon to bring that humidity down. If it was 60-70% it would be a whole lot nicer.

becciandbump · 19/07/2016 21:39

I work in the nhs and the wards in this heat are absolutely unbearable plus I'm pregnant at the moment which makes it worse. It did make my day however when the doctor went to the hospital shop and bought some ice pops for our team meeting instead of our usual coffee x

imwithspud · 19/07/2016 22:10

Funny how all the people on my facebook complaining about people complaining about the weather ( Hmm ) have no children and so can spend the day lazing around on a sun lounger rather than running around like a headless chicken trying to protect DC from dehydration and sun burn/stroke. Not to mention the bedtime meltdowns due to the heat and not understanding why they are getting hot under a duvet (DD1 looking at you).

Just an observation of mine is all.

Greenyogagirl · 19/07/2016 22:17

When it snows and what feels like every single person in the uk is having a complete crisis over it can I tell them to get a grip, enjoy it! Build a snowman! It won't last long! Put a jumper on! Can I can I?!

Teddy1970 · 19/07/2016 22:26

I hate this heat too, it peaked at 31 here earlier, don't get me wrong I like sunshine, but preferably at about 17-20 with a coolish breeze and NO humidity, it just makes me irritable otherwise. I also get fed up with the BBC weathermen/women assuming we love this weather...I swear to god If I hear the word "glorious sunshine" from another forecaster I will punch the TV in...

NicknameUsed · 19/07/2016 22:38

Just got a message from my sister telling me it is hotter in Barnsley than Orlando where we are. I bet it is cold and rainy when we get home Smile

Lorelei76 · 19/07/2016 22:46

Spud, I take it they don't have jobs? How fun, I would whine much less if I could stay home.

Beccia, sounds dire, must be rough on patients too I guess.

imwithspud · 19/07/2016 22:49

The people I know do but are part time, on holiday (school hols) or they work weekends so have days off in the week.

StickTheDMWhereTheSunDontShine · 19/07/2016 23:17

Summer of 2003 I was pregnant and swollen up like a blimp. I just slept, fainted and puked and had to go on sick leave in my second trimester.

StickTheDMWhereTheSunDontShine · 19/07/2016 23:24

I don't bitch when it's cold, but I scream when we get freezing rain which means the entire village is a sheet of black ice! I've kept the kids off school for that, in the past - been too dangerous to try the journey.

I'm less than impressed with the 60mph gusts of wind we get a lot of, too. They tend to break stuff.

I'm near the coast but very high up. We get a lot of extremes. Flash floods don't hang around for long, at least.

StickTheDMWhereTheSunDontShine · 19/07/2016 23:28

DH's Pakistani colleague has been hating it.

And one thing I've noticed, particularly with my grey sunglasses on, a lot of people who clearly don't hate it have been glowing red from sitting out in it too long.

StickTheDMWhereTheSunDontShine · 19/07/2016 23:40

Lois - if I was wrong on one count, my period didn't materialise today (also perimenopausal)

Now the longest I've ever gone without since before I was last pregnant etc.

StickTheDMWhereTheSunDontShine · 19/07/2016 23:43

Greenyogaggirl - I was born in mid-October, in an "Indian Summer". As you might have ascertained from previous posts, that wasn't recently!

Kallyno, I'm in SE Qld and 32 with 90% humidity would be considered a nice summer day. It gets way worse around here. I wouldn't be using AC in that weather, would still be walking to kids to and from school and would not be complaining. Business as usual! We only complain around here when it gets close to 40 degrees.

Kallyno · 20/07/2016 00:36

With 90% humidity? You must live in a little microclimate.

LoisPuddingLane · 20/07/2016 06:26

I've woken up in a state of profound, utter, menstrual, heat-induced misery. Anyone saying "isn't it lovely out there" or "ooooh we should enjoy it while we can" today will probably get a very terse reply. I've had someone on facebook tell me "some people are NEVER satisfied", and I posted a picture of myself smiling happily in the rain. Because I am very satisfied when it is cool and rainy.

DontDeadOpenInside · 20/07/2016 07:05

Came to bed last night and DH wanted to turn the fan down a notch. I had just taken my bra off and needed to desperately air out the underboob. He thinks I should just go braless but with HH knockers that would be even worse than wearing a brand in this weather. He doesn't understand. I've been awake since before 6. Not because I need to be up early either. I've had my 2 year old stuck to me for most of the night. Argh. I'm a touched out sweaty mess and upon checking today's weather I could cry. The humidity is like it for most of the day and the thunderstorms aren't due until late. Uurrrggghhhhh.

...Anyone else's heart sink at heatwaves?!
DontDeadOpenInside · 20/07/2016 07:07

And obviously I meant bra not brand.

Chottie · 20/07/2016 07:14

Well, I'm going to buck the trend and say out loud and proud that I love this weather :)

Wall to wall sunshine, blue skies, lush garden, tomatoes ripening, beautiful mild evenings.....

It's like being on holiday at home :) I live just outside London and travel by public transport too before anyone asks :)

ChicagoBull · 20/07/2016 07:17

Ugh sweaty before I've even got up today. Think it was a hot night, but it's all down from here acc to bbc weather app Grin

TobleroneBoo · 20/07/2016 07:25

I am hating this weather, truly! People always say " oh you moan when it's too cold"

No I don't

Not ever!

Struggled getting up today after minimal sleep and have unleashed the milk bottle legs todayGrin

LoisPuddingLane · 20/07/2016 07:26

Bully for you Chottie. What's the point of posting here about loving it, if not to rub our (sweaty, miserable) noses in it? Go and enjoy your lovely sunshine.

Amummyatlast · 20/07/2016 07:31

Hate the heat. I spent all day yesterday in an office with no air con and came back to a unbearably hot house (even with curtains closed, windows open, fan, etc.). Yet I know my dad will say 'isn't this weather glorious'. No, it's not!
