So some snow starved areas have finally had a little taste of snow. What will happen next?

met office weather warnings I'm still very unsure as to why they have overnight warnings for central areas, but there you go. Most likely areas to see heavy snow overnight are NE England into Lincolnshire but I think a fair bit may be rain near the coast.

There may be a little snow around this week but don't expecte it to hang around for long - the ground is too warm. Feels bizarre after a realtively warm day today.

Thanks for clarifying as ever Kitten I can relax a little now. Hate driving in snow.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 01/03/2015 19:34

Having said that, it now looks snowier than I thought. Oops.
Tomorrow it could well settle for a time in parts of the NW, Yorkshire and central areas of Scotland. And then some heavy snow for a while on Tuesday moving through Wales and then the midlands.
I feel rather foolish Blush

We've had Snow, Hail and Sleet in the last hour (nth Manchester) Grin

Perihelion · 01/03/2015 21:54

March/Spring seems too late to have snow, but my best experience of waking up to a massive dump of snow ( in UK ) was in easly March 2009. Had over 30cm. Was a wee bit further inland and higher than Edinburgh then.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/03/2015 08:06

March can provide some surprising amounts!

It certainly seems that central areas of Scotland are going to see plenty over the next two days with temps struggling to get above zero. Elsewhere a mix of wintry showers today but heavy snow at times for places in parts of Wales, north Midlands and northern England. The peak district across into Yorks look to be quite badly affected I think. So sorry DrH.

There was a thin layer of snow this morning, but not enough to cause any disruption. Hopefully it will be the same tomorrow. Will keep an eye on it.

I heard someone from Leeds on the radio and it was snowing heavily there apparently. Im a lot further north so maybe its above and below us

OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/03/2015 12:44

Fingers crossed for you!

It's snowing, it's snowing, it's snowing!!! Big, fat flakes and it's starting to lie. Hot chocolate to celebrate.

GinSoakedBitchyPony · 02/03/2015 17:08

Just spoken to one of my neighbours who's a farmer and he reckons he'll be out clearing the lanes of about 6cm of snow first thing tomorrow morning. southern border of NW England/Midlands

GloriaSmud · 02/03/2015 21:23

Despite yesterday being the first meteorological day of Spring, no one seems to have told the weather for these first few days of March! The only sign of anything wintry for us though in this cold spell, was a slight frost along with a brief, sleety shower this morning.
'Tis a chilly 2.1C at the moment so I'm expecting the same sort of frost/sleet thing overnight again.

GinSoakedBitchyPony · 02/03/2015 21:43

It's been snowing here Gloria. There's a light layer on the ground but I'm expecting more overnight.

Perihelion · 02/03/2015 23:48

Snow Grin

On cars and grass and not quite melted on pavements. Freezing now and more snow due overnight.

And Edinburgh along with Leuchers and Aberdeen were in the top 5 of sunniest places in the UK in Feb.

funkybuddah · 05/03/2015 10:13

Is there any weight to all these claims I'm seeing (ok the mail and closer online) about a hot weekend then a hot easter? I would have thought easter was still too far away to properly predict?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 05/03/2015 20:36

I've not got the foggiest about Easter Grin This weekend, well some favoured spots could see temps reach 15c I think, but I suspect many people will end up disappointed with cloud cover holding back the temps.

'Tis a beautiful Spring day here (Leicester) ~ 13.3C
Bulbs are flowering, washing's out and I've just found out we've got 2 frogs in our pond (probably soon to be joined by many more!)

GloriaSmud · 07/03/2015 19:48

Metoffice warnings for rain (today and tomorrow) and strong wind (gusts up to 80mph mentioned for exposed western and northern bits) for Scotland, Monday and Tuesday.

Ginfox · 09/03/2015 06:36

Morning all. Just seen the local forecast for the week Confused

So apart from tonight's storm, we can expect strong winds (gusts around 70mph) most evenings this week. What's the skinny Kitten?

Hoping this is the last serious rough patch before some proper spring-like weather.

GloriaSmud · 09/03/2015 09:47

Hope no one minds ~ started a new thread here about the weather warnings.

Ginfox ~ for Scotland/Northern areas, the weather does seem to 'flip-flop' this week and alternates between a nice day, then wet/windy, then back to nice again. It does look though by next weekend that high pressure takes hold so after this week, it does look like 'proper Spring' will start!

leesmum · 23/03/2015 23:25

Kitten and Gloria what's Easter looking like? I keep hearing about a possible warm up but I can't let myself get excited until one of you two can verify it Smile

GloriaSmud · 24/03/2015 06:46

Just had a quick (very amateur so hope I've got this right!) look, leesmum, it looks like it's going to be warm at the beginning of next week but cools off again mid to end of the week/towards the Easter weekend. Could be the possibility of rain for the north of England and Scotland mid-end of next week.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/03/2015 07:37

Discussions for Easter are in the Easter weather thread here :)

Woooooah just seen on twitter met office have issued yellow weather warnings for snow tomorrow for most of northern England.

Tell me it's not so kitten ! I've buried the sledge in the back of the shed !

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/03/2015 22:29

You might see a little Caz, but it looks as though it will be mostly confined to high ground.
