So some snow starved areas have finally had a little taste of snow. What will happen next?

met office weather warnings I'm still very unsure as to why they have overnight warnings for central areas, but there you go. Most likely areas to see heavy snow overnight are NE England into Lincolnshire but I think a fair bit may be rain near the coast.

The sunshine felt warm this afternoon. Bliss.
Once tomorrow's rain band is through it doesn't look bad for what is for many half term.

I have it on good authority (from a fellow allotment holder) that spring is officially on it's way - the over wintering broad beans are starting to grow! Also our birds in the garden are very chirpy and flirty. Hopefully this means winter is over .... Fingers crossed.

GloriaSmud · 16/02/2015 07:43

We haven't had any sun all weekend Sad we've just continued with our 'meh' weather. It looked like we were going to have a nice sunrise this morning but the cloud's moved in and we're back to 'meh' again.
Still (like OYBBK says) after todays rain, the rest of the week looks OK Smile

GloriaSmud · 16/02/2015 07:54

I don't know RunDougal I think this winter might still be capable of a few more cold blasts ~ maybe not loads of snow but more the odd snow flurry. DH reminded me yesterday about March 2013 ~ the first weekend that month, he was going about in a T-shirt on a day out but 2-3 weeks later, the weather turned and it was really cold and the snow/cold lasted for the next month/6-7 weeks. Definitely a brrrrr couple of weeks!

RunDougalRunQuiteFast · 16/02/2015 08:09

Hi Gloria! you're right, we do seem to have a warm blast and then suddenly plunge back into winter again, but I've had enough of mud and grey this year so I am going to stick my gingers in my ears and go 'la la la spring spring spring'

RunDougalRunQuiteFast · 16/02/2015 08:11

Gingers?! Fingers obviously (I'm strawberry blonde!)

FelixFelix · 16/02/2015 08:16

I remember March 2012 where it was boiling hot one weekend too. We went to Yorkshire Sculpture Park and the weather was glorious. Id be pleased if that happened again this year Grin Probably no chance.

Grey and drizzly here in West Yorkshire.

GloriaSmud · 16/02/2015 08:18

Grin at gingers!
Considering that we haven't had an awful lot of rain over the last few weeks, it's surprising how muddy it is!

RunDougalRunQuiteFast · 16/02/2015 09:11

Very grey but dry here in Berkshire. Apart from the bit of the garden where the dog has just been excavating mud and bringing it into the house for me to admire.

GloriaSmud · 16/02/2015 09:50

Rain band showing up nicely here and we're right under it! (Leicester) 'Tis a miserably wet 5.7C

RunDougalRunQuiteFast · 16/02/2015 13:40

Us too! Drizzle, drizzle, drizzle. We're having a Harry Potter film afternoon.

JillJ72 · 16/02/2015 14:24

Rain rain go away, my chickens can't come out to play and their run has swelled and dropped away

The annual grand morning alarm call of The Song Thrush (he is a Very Important Bird Visitor) has started this past week, so Spring is definitely on the way. And my chickens are getting up earlier and going to bed later, so another positive sign of the days starting to lengthen.

Can we get rid of the rain though please?!

GloriaSmud · 16/02/2015 15:13

Bloomin' rain band is really slow to clear. I thought it was getting brighter about an hour ago but it's gone miserable again and still raining. So with the dullness/rain and Day 1 of the council resurfacing some roads near us so there's been a misty, tar-smelling cloud hanging about, our bit of the estate has the feel of an Industrial Revolution village/town at the moment. All we need are some mills, horses and carts and the scene will be complete!

RunDougalRunQuiteFast · 16/02/2015 19:02

Get your shawl and clogs on, Gloria! I think it's supposed to be nice tomorrow?

Newbiecrafter · 16/02/2015 19:28

Over in ukweatherwatch, in the models watch section, they are saying that them does are showing a change to colder weather with the possibility of snow from the 20th.

So, thought I'd come here and ask the MN weather experts. Is there any chance of snow.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/02/2015 19:52

Newbie, at the moment I think it looks unlikely I'm afraid.

GloriaSmud · 16/02/2015 21:13

I have my shawl, RunDougal, if only because it's freezing out there now!

Newbiecrafter · 16/02/2015 21:24

Thanks OYBBK.

I did get excited when I first read that but thought best ask you before if got carried away.

Oh well, there's still a bit of feb left and march can be cold so still time, still time.

Thanks again. Xxx

OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/02/2015 22:38

You are welcome :)

I am keeping an eye on Sundays weather but more for gales. If it is still there tomorrow I'll chat more about it.

GloriaSmud · 17/02/2015 19:05

Beautiful day today ~ temperature reached 11.1C. From Thursday it doesn't look so good and Sunday really looks yuck!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 17/02/2015 19:54

Sunday night into Monday at the moment looks as though northern England and Scotland could see widespread severe gales. If it persists again in tomorrow mornings models I'll start a specific thread.

OP posts:
GloriaSmud · 18/02/2015 07:51

mmmm, think a new thread might be needed!
Early next week looks interesting/chilly

OhYouBadBadKitten · 18/02/2015 10:56

stormy weather thread

It does look like there could be some sleet or snow for some northern hills next week, but mostly it just looks horrid. Wet windy and colder. (not too cold in the south).

We have a forecast of snow this week. According to the Met Office and BBC its going to snow from this afternoon on and off right through till Tuesday Evening/Wednesday. There are no weather warnings covering my area (though I am just outside) Is it likely to be too disruptive or might I be OK?

I have an interview to drive to on Tuesday morning and not relishing the idea that I might have to drive in snow. Its a 45 min journey too.

Im in North Yorkshire close to Co. Durham.

firstposts · 01/03/2015 15:16

I'm in Wiltshire and we have 2 snowflakes for 7 - 9am tomorrow. It can't be real right? I will not get my hopes up (again)
