stormy weather forecast for Weds 14th/thurs 15th

I think that this weeks weather now needs its own thread. Can I first apologise for not creating a separate thread for the Scottish twin storms. Although I was posting forecasts on a general weather thread, real life has conspired to give me less weather watching time than usual.

So anyway, as ever with these systems the details are not yet tied down. Models are coming up with a range of depths of the low pressure of between 945hpa (and filling as it comes on shore) - 968hpa. It looks certain that a deep low pressure will cross the UK weds/thurs and that at the very least some areas will see gales. Worst case scenario is storm force winds.

At the moment the areas I personally think most at risk is Wales, the Midlands and perhaps southern England too.

I'll do my best to update when I can.

Sunshine & showers here, East Sussex.

No sign of snow - so am v happy.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/01/2015 13:34

Very little change to the warnings apart from the amber snow.

I think everything pretty much as stands from what I said this morning, though I think that northern Ireland is back in the firing line for some very strong winds again.

For southern snow lovers - Sunday looks exciting!

Sunny at the moment here in dorset but has been raining most of the time today.

leesmum · 13/01/2015 13:37

No snow in Manchester... Not happy Sad

BIWI · 13/01/2015 13:41
Sad Our central heating boiler is packed up, and we aren't getting the new one fitted until tomorrow.

It's cold!

OK, I'm in the South, but even still!

JKSLtd · 13/01/2015 13:43

Sunday is ideal Kitten - we're planning a do nothing day anyway. So watching snow fall is perfect!

GothicRainbow · 13/01/2015 13:59

Ooh Sunday snow does sound exciting! My DS has yet to experience snow. Off to Wilkos now to stock up on batteries and candles just in case power goes.

Still at 8c down here. I don't know if the ground will be cold enough for the snow to stick where I am, but as I'll be on my bike maybe thats not a terrible thing.

Amber warning of snow for us now from 4pm to 10am tomorrow Grin Even my weather station says snow is coming and a wee flurry is starting!!!!

And isn't Wednesday's warning map from the Met Office getting a wee bit ridiculous?

C'mon the snow *

worm77daisy · 13/01/2015 16:01

It's snowing (but not laying) in mid Norfolk! Just need it to be a few degrees cooler.

GentlyBenevolent · 13/01/2015 16:10

Oh no. It must not snow on Sunday.

GloriaSmud · 13/01/2015 16:25

Report here on the disruption caused by the snow in Scotland.

After a small rise in temperatures this afternoon, we're down to 2.4C at the moment. I'm forecasting a lot of glances out of the window this evening to see what the weather's doing!

FatJerseyPostXmasSpud · 13/01/2015 16:44

Any word on snow for Jersey at all?

DiaryOfAWimpyMum · 13/01/2015 16:48

I'm not believing we will have snow until I see it. We had a tiny little flutter this morning and nothing since, it's 1 degree.

Namechangeyetagaintohide · 13/01/2015 16:50

Snow on Sunday ? Where where where ??

DiaryOfAWimpyMum · 13/01/2015 17:24

We have more flutters

LeftyLoony · 13/01/2015 17:28

Sussex is now in the warning area!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/01/2015 17:29

The snow warnings for the SW have been upgrade a little here with a little more snow now and a mention for the SE too.

Jersey, it looks unlikely for you I'm afraid, sea temps are still keeping things warm.

Sunday snow if it happens looks like a southern affair - especially the SE. but we are still 5 days away!

MoominKoalaAndMiniMoom · 13/01/2015 17:30

Few more flutters here just above wrexham but nothing sticking yet, thankfully!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/01/2015 17:31

oh so it is Lefty, bloody map is really had to deciper. I'm properly in it too. woo hoo!!

Need to make sure winter woollies are ready for tomorrows journeys - I'm not sure where they all are Blush

Its lying here now and we have big snow flakes, lovely to watch.

youarekiddingme · 13/01/2015 17:36

We had a random hail storm at lunchtime here in Hampshire. Saul of it lasted about five minutes. Was sunny, cold feel wind picking up and see dark skies, and temperature
Cooling quickly. Then it was sunny again!

What's occurring Sunday?!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/01/2015 17:38

Sunday has a low pressure skirting the south of England modelled. In a cold flow, with the jet stream to our south it could bring a decent amount to us down here. depends on the path of the low of course.
