Following on from the Boxing Day snow thread we have weather warnings from the met office for snow down part of the east coast and widespread ice. Around Northampton could also see some snow today. Take care over night and into tomorrow morning.

The theme of rather cold carries on through this week, especially away from western coasts. Some central areas could struggle to get above 0C even in the day time. Some sharp frosts. The next few days look dry and cold, with perhaps some freezing fog, especially over any snow fields. At the moment it looks like things might become milder through Thursday with rain moving in. GFS disagrees with this though and keeps things cold.

GFS then keeps teasing with a possibly dramatic return to school snow wise for some. Its a long way ahead but as ever I will keep you updated. However i may not be always able to answer specific questions due to real life so if you need to know urgently please check out the met office

We've had quite a good covering here overnight ~ probably 3-4cms in total. I was following this discussion here and that's what seems to have provided the snow.

Sparklingbrook · 30/01/2015 06:41

Not a flake in my bit of Worcestershire.

digerd · 30/01/2015 07:34

Nothing in S. Herts despite being cloudy and only 1.5 degrees atm.

SewingAndCakes · 30/01/2015 07:40

More snow overnight and more school closures (Rossendale).

Unescorted · 30/01/2015 07:47

More snow here too - 2nd day of working from home. Schools closed, no buses, car stuck. Local shop has run out of milk..... the joy.

Sewing & Cakes - I didn't want to hear that I really need someone to get to their office in Rossendale today.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 30/01/2015 07:50

4 degrees here and no snow. Just very windy.

Waxlyrically · 30/01/2015 07:58

Masses of snow overnight here Leics/Derbyshire border! Schools shut. But have to try to get to work - am hoping is localised dumping because my car is rubbish in snow.

AngelsWithSilverWings · 30/01/2015 08:00

We've woken up to a nice dusting of snow in Essex this morning! Dd is so excited to wear the snow boots I bought her last year - they still have the tags on and I'm so pleased I had the foresight to buy them a size too big! ( it is such a tiny amount of snow she could get away with her school shoes really)

OhYouBadBadKitten · 30/01/2015 08:47

Guess how much I got....
Zero. Nothing. Nada.

So todays snow in the north west will peter out. Later on there may be some heavy rain in that area and following on through tonight a mix of rain, sleet and snow showers spreading across northern England and the Midlands. Some parts of the SE may see some light snow by morning again.

Over night Saturday, another band of wintry mix will head south, again with some heavy rain embedded into the sleet and snow.

Tuesday is the next main chance after that for some snow.

Oh Kitten HmmI have sensed your disappointment running through this thread as each potential snowy episode fails to materialise for us southerners. Compared to last year this winter seems to have promised the kind of weather we've enjoyed in recent years, but so far - in the south at least - it's not come to much. I am Central England really (n oxon/warwks/n'hants borders) and last year was the first in 13 years that we didn't have at least one decent 'snow day' - I have a nasty feeling that this year, despite being colder, might follow suit Hmm (apologies to snow haters).

oricella · 30/01/2015 09:46

Kitten, you can come and visit here... we have plenty

Grey and cold here.

The grey is really getting me down. It's so meh!

By this time of the year it feels like winter is very long. Snow would make such a lovely change, and break up the greyness, but it sometimes feels like the more I wish for it the less likely it is to happen.

Thanks for posting the snow pic. Looks amazing!

PigletJohn · 30/01/2015 10:20

Hot sunshine beating down on the S Coast again. There were a few fluffy clouds earlier. Wind from the North so feels cold.

FelixFelix · 30/01/2015 10:23

No more snow here in West Yorkshire but lots of ice from the snow yesterday. Horrible stuff!

MixenLane · 30/01/2015 10:33

Loads of snow overnight here, south Cheshire. It had pretty much gone yesterday evening by about 6pm, then a bucket load came down again around 11pm.
The sun is out, gorgeous blue sky, and even I -Official Snow Despiser - will admit that it looks very pretty indeed. And the best part is it's starting to melt. Wink

MooseyMoo · 30/01/2015 10:36

I went to get milk last night at 7.40pm ish and it was snowing. I was so happy to walk in the snow, and kept checking lampposts to see how hard it was snowing. Just thinking about it now makes me smile. I could also see the moon and some stars which was weird. It stopped by 8pm and all gone this morning. West Oxfordshire

GloriaSmud · 30/01/2015 11:00

Leicester signing in where the roads are a nightmare this morning. I heard a gritter go by about 7pm last night but with the weather front that went through early this morning, it didn't really stand a chance keeping the roads clear and everything was at a standstill or moving really slowly. So a school run that normally takes 1/2 an hour to do took 1 1/2 hours this morning.

GloriaSmud · 30/01/2015 11:10

Netweather are saying it's going to be a very cold weekend. Brrrr!

GloriaSmud · 30/01/2015 11:12

Updated weather warnings from the metoffice. Ice for just about everyone tonight.

MixenLane · 30/01/2015 11:17

Similar roads here Gloria. Noticed the snow plough stuck on the main road at 8am!

mummylin2495 · 30/01/2015 11:25

Beautiful sunny day here in Bournemouth bah ! > I am so envious when I see the lovely snowy gardens etc

hoochymama1 · 30/01/2015 11:48

blows snow to Kitten and anyone else what fancies a bit Smile

Lots of the white stuff here in North Derbyshire, ice today..have cancelled my visit to Castelford, motorway is probably ok, but just getting up my road is difficult, most of local schools closed. Lots of abandoned cars making it difficult for gritters Hmm

Really cold everywhere it seems, will have to modify snow dance for a light dusting.. Grin
