Following on from the Boxing Day snow thread we have weather warnings from the met office for snow down part of the east coast and widespread ice. Around Northampton could also see some snow today. Take care over night and into tomorrow morning.

The theme of rather cold carries on through this week, especially away from western coasts. Some central areas could struggle to get above 0C even in the day time. Some sharp frosts. The next few days look dry and cold, with perhaps some freezing fog, especially over any snow fields. At the moment it looks like things might become milder through Thursday with rain moving in. GFS disagrees with this though and keeps things cold.

GFS then keeps teasing with a possibly dramatic return to school snow wise for some. Its a long way ahead but as ever I will keep you updated. However i may not be always able to answer specific questions due to real life so if you need to know urgently please check out the met office

Grin Blackeyed

Gloria well DD knows that if there's ever a chance of seeing the auroura she's getting woken up and chucked in the car, so I think she'd be up for a spot of night time snow sports........( she's also used to having a slightly bonkers mother )

Temp down, clouds and a teasing wee flurry just now......game on Grin

Excellent Perihelion ~ sounds like it's all set to happen, weather and midnight sledging-wise!

Our temperatures are going all over the place, we went up slightly to 9.4C but it's dropped like a stone in the last 1/2 hour to 6.6C.

Some snow reports coming in here.

NickAngel · 28/01/2015 10:50

Heavy rain here, wind has calmed down. Very grey, not sure how I can measure temp drop though unless I sit in the car?

BlackeyedSusan · 28/01/2015 10:56

w mids signing in..

we have had blus skies, between grey clouds, heavy rain showers with some hail and blustery winds. the car says 8 but it does not agree with the temp on the side of the building in town.

MrsVamos · 28/01/2015 11:06

SE.

Rainy & windy here.

BiscuitsAreMyDownfall · 28/01/2015 11:08

North Yorkshire signing in. We've had rain this morning which is now turning to sleet. The good thing about it raining first is that it doesn't lay, but Im a little concerned that there will be so much snow it will lay later on causing difficulties tomorrow morning. Sorry dont like snow. You can have any here anybody who wants it.

SpottyTeacakes · 28/01/2015 11:34

Amber weather warnings for snow for some of you

MrsVamos · 28/01/2015 11:37

We are now experiencing sleet !

That's one step closer to snow, isn't it ?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/01/2015 11:39

Edinburgh been upgraded to amber warnings

BiscuitsAreMyDownfall · 28/01/2015 12:42

Im just in the amber warnings now. Even though I dont really like it, its not as bad because it is today and tomorrow. Would be worse to be the weekend.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/01/2015 12:56

The squall line as it approaches Suffolk looks really impressive. Heads up for some brief stormy weather there!

If anyone needs cheering up I've put a link to the best forecast I've ever seen on this thread

GloriaSmud · 28/01/2015 13:07

Not sure whether it was that squall line but something squally went through about an hour ago (I was at our next door neighbours at the time) and there was squally rain and a great gust of wind towards the end, along with some flakes of snow. Temperature dropped to 4C but now the sun's out and it's back up to 5.4C

MixenLane · 28/01/2015 13:42

I've just driven down from the north of the north west of England, Kirkby Lonsdale area down to Clitheroe and then back home to south Cheshire. Very strong winds, snow and hail.
Temperature at 11am, according to my car which is usually a little higher than actual temps, was much lower than had been forecast. It was around 2.5C for the last 45 minutes of the journey on the M6.
I've just checked BBC Weather and forecast for my day tomorrow, which will take me from Macclesfield to Stockport and then back down to Leek, is for heavy snow most of the day.
Not sure how reliable BBC weather is - does it come from the Met Office?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/01/2015 13:45

Mixen, it is but often I find that it runs behind, I'd always check the met office directly. However I do think it likely that you will encounter significant snow tomorrow.

Kitten, thanks for that (I think!).
A duvet day may be in order tomorrow Wink

ibbydibby · 28/01/2015 14:03

V wild spell of weather in Norfolk an hour or so ago - got in car, was showing 9 degrees, and had dropped to 4 degrees 20 mins or so later, having driven through squally rain/hail & sleet. Rain now stopped but v v gusty wind still

FatJerseyPostXmasSpud · 28/01/2015 14:03

We're now on a yellow warning for the weekend for snow :O

SewingAndCakes · 28/01/2015 14:05

Very gusty in Rossendale but no snow yet...

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/01/2015 14:11

You know life is getting unfair when Jersey can have snow but my area doesn't.
Hmpff.
