Following on from the Boxing Day snow thread we have weather warnings from the met office for snow down part of the east coast and widespread ice. Around Northampton could also see some snow today. Take care over night and into tomorrow morning.

The theme of rather cold carries on through this week, especially away from western coasts. Some central areas could struggle to get above 0C even in the day time. Some sharp frosts. The next few days look dry and cold, with perhaps some freezing fog, especially over any snow fields. At the moment it looks like things might become milder through Thursday with rain moving in. GFS disagrees with this though and keeps things cold.

GFS then keeps teasing with a possibly dramatic return to school snow wise for some. Its a long way ahead but as ever I will keep you updated. However i may not be always able to answer specific questions due to real life so if you need to know urgently please check out the met office

humph. no snow.

Perihelion · 21/01/2015 08:59

Still no snow in Edinburgh, but still cold and the ground's frozen. It's like winter Smile

CatThiefKeith · 21/01/2015 09:26

No snow in Kent. There wasn't even a frost this morning. Sad

Do we have any chance at all, ever, of getting any?

FyreFly · 21/01/2015 10:02

Not a sniff here in Rutland :( just very gloomy.

pigsinmud · 21/01/2015 10:03

What a contrast with yesterday when it was -4, but sunny. Just walked the dog in +2, but damp, grey and horrible - felt colder than yesterday!

magimedi · 21/01/2015 10:30

Lots of rain here.

SewingAndCakes · 21/01/2015 10:31

Loads of snow in Rossendale; the kids are upset that school is still open and I've just spent an hour digging out my car.

canny1234 · 21/01/2015 10:36

We had snow yesterday for 2 hours followed by sleet/rain until a few minutes ago.Now we have had 5 minutes hailstones,5 minutes of big fat fluffy flakes,5 minutes of frozen rain plus a murky foggy day.

MrsVamos · 21/01/2015 10:58

No snow.
Sad

Starting to think we wont be getting any this winter.

Rats.

mankyscotslass · 21/01/2015 11:31

Walked to work in the rain. Now it's trying to snow but it will be too wet to lie.

42notTrendy · 21/01/2015 11:36

Heavy snow in Notttngham. Was sleety but quite heavy now.

catslave · 21/01/2015 12:39

Wah. Netweather model was showing a 30% chance of snow for us today... until yesterday, when it rapidly changed its mind. Now we have rain and 5 degree temperatures. It did snow here (Cornwall) for 10 mins on Monday morning, but nothing settled. Model showing bog all till Feb for the southwest and will probably be much revised between now and then, anyway:

Where would give me the most reliable info re snow and weather? I need to traverse the peaks later and there are rather a lot of statuses about snow on FB atm

OhYouBadBadKitten · 21/01/2015 13:45

For the peak district I'd actually recommend the MWIS

and peakfm looks great for road conditions.

finally easing in West Yorkshire, was allowed to come home early but in reality the A roads were clear ( between cities, not high ground)

Where its laid it is slushy.

BitchyTakesOnManagement · 21/01/2015 13:59

Thank you OYBBK it is looking decisively scary out there. I know I need to get over but I don't fancy driving in fog, snow, ice and reduced visibility. I know that there are schools over that side of the world that are in the process of evicting their kids since lunch time to ensure they can get home. I might not risk it.

georgedawes · 21/01/2015 14:19

Which route were you wanting to go bitchy? Might be able to help. Also check out buxton weather watch on Facebook. Snake pass Inn good for updates too.

BitchyTakesOnManagement · 21/01/2015 14:37

M62 BBC is showing issues. Snake pass I know is shut. But that gets shut for ice so that is not an issue. My concern is the return journey which is not until stupid o'clock and I don't want to get stuck in the small hours on top of a hill in the middle of nowhere. They are pretty good at making sure main roads are open but it worries me that they are sending the kids home. Schools this way are pretty hardy

BitchyTakesOnManagement · 21/01/2015 14:38

Sorry that was rambling. Blush I am going across on the m62

georgedawes · 21/01/2015 15:08

snake pass is closed, there is still a lot of snow I think, not just ice. Forecast is too ease off tonight but there may be ice/fog. I think the M62 would be ok if you take it easy but understand your reluctance.

youarekiddingme · 21/01/2015 19:53

We officially had about 6 snowflakes interspersed with the rain some snow today!!! The icy rain at lunchtime was a little harsh on the cheeks!

educatingarti · 22/01/2015 13:21

Any thoughts on Netweathers predictions for next week? Wednesday is looking "interesting" for all of northern England but it it too early to have any real certainty?

SpottyTeacakes · 22/01/2015 13:23

3 degrees and lovely and sunny here Smile

OhYouBadBadKitten · 22/01/2015 15:05

I think they are being exceptionally optimistic arti - temps look too warm to me at the moment.
