Following on from the Boxing Day snow thread we have weather warnings from the met office for snow down part of the east coast and widespread ice. Around Northampton could also see some snow today. Take care over night and into tomorrow morning.

The theme of rather cold carries on through this week, especially away from western coasts. Some central areas could struggle to get above 0C even in the day time. Some sharp frosts. The next few days look dry and cold, with perhaps some freezing fog, especially over any snow fields. At the moment it looks like things might become milder through Thursday with rain moving in. GFS disagrees with this though and keeps things cold.

GFS then keeps teasing with a possibly dramatic return to school snow wise for some. Its a long way ahead but as ever I will keep you updated. However i may not be always able to answer specific questions due to real life so if you need to know urgently please check out the met office

We have snowflakes!! about 4

SwedeDreams · 19/01/2015 08:48

Lovely thick frost here in London, could almost squint and imagine it was snow.

Feeling so nostalgic for snowier years, there's no feeling better than waking in the middle of the night to loads of snow having fallen, and it's all silent and pristine and lit up by the streetlights. Sigh. And you know school will be shut and you can go sledging.

PestoStormissimos · 19/01/2015 08:48

Is that Surrey, SpottyTeacakes?

If so, it's getting closer.....

pigsinmud · 19/01/2015 09:04

Warmer here this morning, in my part of Surrey, than it was yesterday morning. Water in chicken run was a little icy, but not frozen over. Temp is 0.5 at the moment. I have made a late New Year's Resolution - to stop looking at the forecast every 2 seconds. As another poster said - it changes every hour or so. We've gone from rain, to light snow, to sleet, to heavy rain for the Tues/Wed forecast.

SpottyTeacakes · 19/01/2015 09:39

Yes pesto. Only a few flakes though!

PestoStormissimos · 19/01/2015 09:49

Oooooh!!! I wish we had a few flakes. Wonder if it's a sign of things to come? Grin

SpottyTeacakes · 19/01/2015 10:07

Wouldn't bet on it I think that's the best we will get this year Grin

violetwellies · 19/01/2015 11:25

Sleet then snow, white over in the small hours, now its raining Sad

MrsVamos · 19/01/2015 14:13

All we've had here is a few measly snow showers Saturday morning - nothing else.

Every time its predicted it then goes away.

Nothing.

Pah.

42notTrendy · 19/01/2015 16:13

A few flakes here in Nottingham! All gone now. Came fast for a few minutes Grin
Fingers crossed for snow tomorrow. I'm hoping its tomorrow afternoon onwards though as we have a funeral in the morning.

mankyscotslass · 19/01/2015 19:20

Apparently it was snowing here this afternoon, but I was in the office and never saw it. Sad

Finished work, and there was no snow - just grey, cold and damp.

Newbiecrafter · 19/01/2015 20:15

Not a flake here! :(

It's been a lovely sunny crisp winters day, but still feel so disappointed that we've had nothing.

Radio jackie mentioned allowing time to scrape the car due to the thick frost, but my car was just covered in dew. The rooftops were white ish but not at all icy. Cold yes but not like they were saying it was.

So, really hoping for something snowy to come and surprise us.

Someone upthread mentioned waking up and seeing fresh snow lying and how magical it is. I live the silence that you get before everyone's up and about. We've missed out a few times. I remember one year, there was snow everywhere except where we lived at the time. We did get good snow one year and I bought dd and DS a pair of snow kits each in the sale thinking they'll do for a couple of years as we were caught out that year. The boots still fit so I'm guessing it's my fault for buying them and jinxing it away from us.

I've been following UK weather Watch and the models, which I don't understand, seem to be changing at every run, so there's talk on there that we won't know what we're getting until it starts falling out of the sky.

I know OYBBK has ever confirmed it will snow, but I hear the merest hint and am like a goldfish in a bowl, and everytime I come round I ask, is it snowing yet? Blush

Xxx

Newbiecrafter · 19/01/2015 20:18

Stupid autocorrects are mad.

Snow boots not kits.
Love the silence, not live

JillJ72 · 19/01/2015 21:45

We didn't seem to have any particular frost this morning but I made the error of thinking my windscreen was a bit speckledy and so did the screen wash and windscreen wipe.... and ended up with instance ice across the whole screen which I then had to try and scrape and also wait for the blower to melt. Doh!

SpottyTeacakes · 20/01/2015 06:28

-6 here. Severe ice on the main road everyone driving at 20mph.

GloriaSmud · 20/01/2015 06:48

-5.4C here (Leicester) Shock Temperatures for us are always a surprise because we live in the middle of a housing estate but right on the edge of the city, so when the metoffice gives an 'out in rural spots' temperature, we normally find we're that one rather than a usually slightly warmer, 'town and city temperature'.

PestoFrostissimos · 20/01/2015 06:51

Its's finally snowing here!!! Smile Smile Smile

PestoSnowissimos · 20/01/2015 06:58
mankyscotslass · 20/01/2015 07:20

Dry and cold here, but DH was please, he never had to scrape the windscreen - there was no ice on the car, or any on the paths!

youarekiddingme · 20/01/2015 07:29

where is my snow!

WhispersOfWickedness · 20/01/2015 08:25

I am sulking too, youare :(
Yesterday the Met office had us down for snow all tomorrow morning, now there is no mention of snow Angry I think I scared it off with my new goretex winter boots :(

LeftyLoony · 20/01/2015 09:01

Definitely sulking. Because even if we get snow tomorrow it won't settle.

magimedi · 20/01/2015 09:09

About a quarter of an inch of the vile white stuff here in East Sussex. Hope it melts asap.

pigsinmud · 20/01/2015 09:18

Gorgeous frosty morning here - just walked the dog across the fields. It was -4.6c at 7am. 2 hours later and it's -3.6c.
Our forecast of light snow all day tomorrow has changed to sleet.

Newbiecrafter · 20/01/2015 09:22

Lovely and cold this morning. Even frost on the car. But pretty much cloudless sky. Booo!

Just checked bbc forecast and we have nothing forecast for us.

Damn those snow boots!
