Following on from the Boxing Day snow thread we have weather warnings from the met office for snow down part of the east coast and widespread ice. Around Northampton could also see some snow today. Take care over night and into tomorrow morning.

The theme of rather cold carries on through this week, especially away from western coasts. Some central areas could struggle to get above 0C even in the day time. Some sharp frosts. The next few days look dry and cold, with perhaps some freezing fog, especially over any snow fields. At the moment it looks like things might become milder through Thursday with rain moving in. GFS disagrees with this though and keeps things cold.

GFS then keeps teasing with a possibly dramatic return to school snow wise for some. Its a long way ahead but as ever I will keep you updated. However i may not be always able to answer specific questions due to real life so if you need to know urgently please check out the met office

Boo! Oh well, thank you kitten, there's always next week I suppose huffs off

hoochymama1 · 18/01/2015 11:16

Who knows though? Stop polishing that sled, Gloria Grin I blame dh for stockpiling salt Wink

pigsinmud · 18/01/2015 11:42

Oh drat. It seems ages since we had some snow here. Mind you, I can only remember a handful of snowy winters when I was little. I think we've been spoilt by those few years when we had quite a lot.

MoominKoalaAndMiniMoom · 18/01/2015 11:43

It snowed for much of the night here, woke up to this Grin

More snow here on yorkshire moors. Annoying as I have things to do! Staying in all weekend was not my plan.

SpottyTeacakes · 18/01/2015 12:10

Sleet! Woo hoo! Hmm

LumpySpacedPrincess · 18/01/2015 12:37

Snow pics are great, I am sooooo jealous though!

I'm in East kent and the BBC website are showing one snowflake for us for Tuesday, I am so happy. Grin

I know it won't lay and will turn to rain but it is our first snowflake for this winter.

mankyscotslass · 18/01/2015 12:43

Trying to snow here but it's a very half hearted effort!

mankyscotslass · 18/01/2015 12:49

Woohoo - big fat flakes!!

JillJ72 · 18/01/2015 13:07

Yay!

mankyscotslass · 18/01/2015 13:28

Aw no it was only teasing! Stopped now Sad

ilovechristmas1 · 18/01/2015 16:53

big fat nothing as usual,south

GloriaSmud · 18/01/2015 17:26

Hoochymama ~ it's probably my sledge polishing that's driven the snow off! I should have sat out in a deckchair, in my swimming costume and sunglasses! That would have scared the neighbours made sure of snow!

nooddsocksforme · 18/01/2015 19:12

snow lying in outskirts of glasgow but not much, took me 4 hours instead of 30 mins to get home on friday so dont want that again but a good few days of proper serious snow would be good

pigsinmud · 18/01/2015 19:35

BBC now has light snow for us on Tuesday and Wednesday, but won't believe that until I see it! Met office still has sleet.

magimedi · 18/01/2015 20:00

Depressing forecast for snow lovers in the south - most of the risk has rescinded.

You have made me very, very happy, OYBBK!

SwedeDreams · 18/01/2015 20:13

London now showing possibility of sleet/snow on tues/weds

I know it's another mirage but... Please!

GloriaSmud · 18/01/2015 21:21

Forecast for Leicester says snow too. BBC says 'light snow' from 5pm Tuesday right through 'til 6pm Wednesday (metoffice gives us a spell of heavy snow at 6am Wednesday.)

OhYouBadBadKitten · 18/01/2015 21:23

Some really nasty icy conditions possible overnight and first thing tomorrow morning where skies clear over night. Take care if your roads are wet at present they may well by ice by morning if not already.

I'm reserving judgement about Tuesday and Wednesday, but yes some light snow if possible for places.

Any chance in south east?

fatsatsuma · 19/01/2015 07:26

Hello Kitten. Sounds like you've had a lot on your plate recently - hope that's easing off a bit.
The forecast for tues/weds is messing with my head! It seems to change at every opportunity - we've gone from light snow to no snow to heavy snow to sleet to ?? No snow currently I think. I'm north Oxon so south midlands I suppose but I think that probably applies to most the 'south'. Don't worry, I'm not asking for clarity from you - just sharing my frustration Grin

GloriaSmud · 19/01/2015 07:30

-2.2C here (Leicester)
We're forecast heavy snow, starting midnight Tueday~Wednesday, wth sleet occasionally and then light snow throughout Wednesday. We shall see if this happens.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 19/01/2015 07:51

morning all! (not yet fatsatsuma - hopefully the end of next week should see things ease down significantly)
So tomorrow england, biggest snow risk is for northern england, this may spread as far south as parts of Oxfordshire, but I have my doubts at present about it spreading further south than that.
