Following on from the Boxing Day snow thread we have weather warnings from the met office for snow down part of the east coast and widespread ice. Around Northampton could also see some snow today. Take care over night and into tomorrow morning.

The theme of rather cold carries on through this week, especially away from western coasts. Some central areas could struggle to get above 0C even in the day time. Some sharp frosts. The next few days look dry and cold, with perhaps some freezing fog, especially over any snow fields. At the moment it looks like things might become milder through Thursday with rain moving in. GFS disagrees with this though and keeps things cold.

GFS then keeps teasing with a possibly dramatic return to school snow wise for some. Its a long way ahead but as ever I will keep you updated. However i may not be always able to answer specific questions due to real life so if you need to know urgently please check out the met office

OYBBK - bright blue skies, just like icing sugar the meagreness dusting was gone . Glorious day though.

WhispersOfWickedness · 17/01/2015 13:17

Can disillusioned northerners join too, Meglet? Sad

We often get snow until last winter, and now it seems to be avoiding us this winter too Angry

mankyscotslass · 17/01/2015 13:48

No snow here. Sad

JillJ72 · 17/01/2015 14:21

I remember you from last winter weather threads mankyscotslass - iirc you did eventually get some snow, after much persuasion....! Fingers crossed your paths cross v soon.

MooseyMoo · 17/01/2015 14:24

Light sprinkle of snow at 7am ish, kept starting and stopping from big snowflakes to tiny then sleet. Finished at 10ish and now beautiful blue sky. West Oxfordshire

JillJ72 · 17/01/2015 14:24

BTW why do newspapers have to be so blasted sensationalist with their weather headlines? How many peeps will be getting quite worried? And how many get so blasé because of the hand-wringing, and so do get caught out?

OYBBK and GloriaSmud are voices of calm and reason Grin

hoochymama1 · 17/01/2015 15:51

Yes, meglet ,
A TWO snowflake forecast from bbc this morning for us, in derbyshire.

Then zilch, nada. All day.

They are playing with my emotions.

I really need to learn that snow dance...Wink

mankyscotslass · 17/01/2015 16:29

JillJ72 Grin

Still none - we have had a few heavy sleet and hail showers, but nothing else.

To add insult to injury DS1 has been at rehearsals in Blackburn and they were playing in the snow at every break. Envy

violetwellies · 17/01/2015 18:27

Well my bit of Yorkshire was a non runner, we went to Flamingo Land & there was even less there.
Deeply disappointed.

MoominKoalaAndMiniMoom · 17/01/2015 19:14

Hmm varying forecasts for here tonight. Most of them suggesting we'll get a bit of snow.

GloriaSmud · 17/01/2015 19:59

Aw Jill ~ am Blush at being a 'voice of calm and reason!'

'Tis looking like a bit of a cold week with temperatures stuggling to get above freezing. From what I understand from the GFS weather model, the middle of the week could be interesting for snow potential because it tries to bring rain in from the west and where it bumps against the cold, there could be snow. But (as seems to happen with the forecasting of snow) each model run is struggling with the if/when/how much.

pinkkoala · 17/01/2015 22:35

It was cold and icy in northampton this morning but then blue skys, even gave my washing a blow outside, no snow yet, we didn't get any last year eiter, but I suppose we had our share winter 09/10/11. We had a fair bit then, but dd is desperater to get her sledge out again.
Any signs this week of any snow.

leesmum · 17/01/2015 22:44

We have snow falling on and off for the last couple of hours...it would be nice if its there in the morning for the boys Smile

BillThePony · 18/01/2015 00:47

Just drove from Knutsford to Crewe, loads of snow for about 3 miles then nothing. Could barely see out of the window.

Justmuddlingalong · 18/01/2015 05:14

Snow lying here in Fife. Right on the coast. WOOHOO!

DiaryOfAWimpyMum · 18/01/2015 05:55

Snowing just outside Edinburgh, not a lot but enough to make it pretty.

SpottyTeacakes · 18/01/2015 07:02

This time two years ago we had about four inches of snow! Just raining today...

JillJ72 · 18/01/2015 08:31

Cold, looks like it rained overnight, but it's so icy, I expect it's very slippery on the paths and roads.

mankyscotslass · 18/01/2015 08:39

Foggy, cold and icy here, especially where it looks like there was sleet or hail overnight.

DS1 football match has been cancelled!

ChippingInLatteLover · 18/01/2015 09:34

Damp & grey here in the Central South East.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 18/01/2015 09:40

It's very frustrating chipping. 2c and we end up with drizzle rather than snow!! Argh.

Coldest here (Leicester) was -2.2C at 8.18am this morning, now warmed up to 0C.
'Tis looking 'messy' midweek with will it/won't it rain/sleet/snow ~ Netweather has a bit about it here.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 18/01/2015 09:45

Depressing forecast for snow lovers in the south - most of the risk has rescinded. Elsewhere next bout looks to be on Tuesday for the midlands and north west England.
