Following on from the Boxing Day snow thread we have weather warnings from the met office for snow down part of the east coast and widespread ice. Around Northampton could also see some snow today. Take care over night and into tomorrow morning.

The theme of rather cold carries on through this week, especially away from western coasts. Some central areas could struggle to get above 0C even in the day time. Some sharp frosts. The next few days look dry and cold, with perhaps some freezing fog, especially over any snow fields. At the moment it looks like things might become milder through Thursday with rain moving in. GFS disagrees with this though and keeps things cold.

GFS then keeps teasing with a possibly dramatic return to school snow wise for some. Its a long way ahead but as ever I will keep you updated. However i may not be always able to answer specific questions due to real life so if you need to know urgently please check out the met office

Lost power again this morning, but back now. Lots of hail, horizontal sleet and the odd snowflake.

Perihelion · 10/01/2015 11:59

Don't know Kitten there's a distinct lack of precipitation due now.....blue skies atm. Hopeful for this evening though, but am a bit too coastal. However am scheming to maybe go inland and uphill tomorrow Smile

DiaryOfAWimpyMum · 10/01/2015 12:08

We have little bits of snow falling mixed in with rain. My wheelie bins were upturned again but nothing as bad as the night before. Ive not been in the car yet so no idea of temperature.

DiaryOfAWimpyMum · 10/01/2015 13:41

Temperature it 1.5 degrees, chilly but sunny

ChippingInLatteLover · 10/01/2015 13:45

Daylight can change perception, but, it's definitely not quite as windy right here. It's whistling, not howling and the bloody washing whirly gig has stopped flying around and making a god awful noise, for which we are all grateful! Grin.

Perhelion. I hope this guy gets the same treatment!

Hope everyone is ok.

Perihelion · 10/01/2015 15:12

Sure he will Chipping the poice don't take kindly to twats putting themselves, others or the bridge at risk. They put restrictions in place for a reason, not unnecessarily and try and keep the traffic flowing. They allow cars up to 80mph gusts, which makes for an interesting crossing, but is one of the few times pretty much everyone drives under the speed limit Grin

More SNOW! Not lying yet here, but it will be inland. Grin Off to locate sledges.....

DiaryOfAWimpyMum · 10/01/2015 15:20

We just had BIG snowflakes here but its stopped again.

Ginfox · 10/01/2015 15:32

We've had sleet, a (brief) blizzard, hail, and sunny spells. Now rather menacing-looking clouds everywhere, and definitely colder. Still a bit windy, but it looks as if we've got another few days of this to come.

Just chatted to the postie: apparently ours is one of the few houses in the area with no damage to the roof.

I've got to do an airport pick-up tomorrow - hope I get home before the next storm arrives.

digerd · 10/01/2015 16:59

SE.
Was very mild over night and this morning, but dog and I got caught in the rain.
Pm got chillier and is now 6 degrees.

GloriaSmud · 10/01/2015 17:15

5.1C here ~ bit of a fall from the 14C that it was at 5.47 this morning!
Some snow showers showing up here on uksnowmap at the moment.

FatJerseyPostXmasSpud · 10/01/2015 19:22

Hmmm metcheck is suggesting that we're going to get snow early feb down here in Jersey.

I wonder if thats true

JKSLtd · 10/01/2015 19:26

Well if Jersey gets some I want some for Essex too!Grin

nannynick · 10/01/2015 19:40

Snow in Aberdeenshire. None in Surrey as yet, though Tue/Wed it might get this far south.

FatJerseyPostXmasSpud · 10/01/2015 19:46

Last time we had snow we had 7ft snow drifts, power cuts, nothing coming onto the island, no flights and i had to dig myself out of my house.

Bring it on!

GloriaSmud · 10/01/2015 20:21

Snow showing up on some of TrafficScotland's cameras here and the snow gates at Braemar are closed.
I'd like just a little (but not too disruptive) wintry stuff so if the Scots would like to blow some of their snow down towards the East Midlands, that would be grand!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 10/01/2015 21:05

Nannynick, at present that looks fairly unlikely I think.

As usual plenty of different solutions to the mid week storm. Still keeping an eye on it.

nannynick · 10/01/2015 21:27

Oh don't say that... the GFS chart on MetCheck looks so promising at the moment with the blue bit coming down to south on 14Jan.

Alas you are probably right as the time gets closer the model runs will probably show snow in the far north and over high areas, rain elsewhere. More the winter we expect these days.

But we can hope Smile

Roseformeplease · 10/01/2015 22:23

Back again. Power restored in the wild West of Scotland. It went out again about midnight last night, had a brief flicker about 2 and was out again until about 15 minutes ago. Fortunately, w have the open fire, gas cooker and books to read. I had also stashed some Christmas chocolate for emergiencies.

Frustratingly, we managed to get Radio Scotland who, helpfully, carried on with Fucking Football all bloody day and then, when they finally said something about power / weather suggested that we check for updates on Twitter / Facebook / Website!!!

Fuckwits. No power means no power. The Internet is not a magic stream of fairies that arrives without power. Mobile phone masts need, you guessed it, power.

Lots of helpful checking on neighbours. Love my neighbour who is ex-famous adventurer and who, at long past 70, was off to check on the "old folks".

More to come kitten?

meglet · 10/01/2015 22:26

blimey, we have a one snowflake forecast on Wednesday morning in Hampshire.

BlackeyedSantaStuckUpAChimney · 10/01/2015 23:10

Oi, you can't hog it all gloria, we want some here!

GloriaSmud · 10/01/2015 23:42

Oh and for some over BlackeyedSanta's way as well. Grin

worm77daisy · 11/01/2015 04:58

Slightly off topic, but Rose I am very impressed with your neighbour how awesome would that be, when holed up I'd get him round to tell us stories.

GlOricella · 11/01/2015 08:58

Welcome back Rose - frustrating isn't it how all info is now given out online and they forget we can't acces it. On Friday all the mobile networks round here were out as well: thankfully we have a wired phone, so I could phone outside to get people to update me. Must investigate if you still can get some kind of dial-up internet.

Still loads of places unconnected this morning: catering vans out all over the place

Snow bit of a let down - smattering of hail makes it look vaguely white, but it's no good for anything

GloriaSmud · 11/01/2015 08:58

TheWeatherOutlook is pondering on the possibility of snow in the south on Tuesday (Looking at the charts though ~ I think it could be too warm for anything other than the odd flake at the moment.)

OhYouBadBadKitten · 11/01/2015 09:13

There certainly is more to come Rose with the Wednesday/Thursday storm one to watch.

The exact path and depth is still unknown but some model solutions have a really fierce element to it. At the moment we are looking at solutions ranging from gales to storm force winds but at present it looks as though it will be somewhere between southern Scotland and northern england and the midlands that will see the worst of the winds, but that may well change and even away from the worst it looks very windy (apart from northern Scotland which may well escape for the most part)

Potentially snowy on the back edge of this storm on Thursday?? Yes. I think so. Worth keeping an eye on, but it is the wind I'm concerned about.

Expect met office warnings around lunch time tomorrow (if not today)
