Boxing Day snow thread

From storm thread which talked about the complexities of tomorrow's weather:

"Merry Christmas will be really interesting to seem where gets snow tomorrow. Hilly parts of Wales, some of northern England, the midlands perhaps at times and I still think the chilterns. It depends on how heavy the precipitation is, the air it falls through and obviously the temperature. I expect some people will have rather a surprise."

And With regards to discussion about NI: "it's going to sound like a cop out but I just don't know 850hpa temps look borderline as does air temp but if the rain is heavy and falls through dry air as it evaporates it can cool the air down allowing snow to fall. ( evaporative cooling)
Often snow in the UK hangs on a knife edge with a temp swing of one or two degrees making all the difference. It makes it very difficult for councils. Put grit down too early and it gets washed away then it turns to snow and everyone blames the councils for the ensuing chaos."

I don't think things have changed since my thoughts earlier today.

We've got mahoosive snowflakes here (Leicester), temperature 1.0C and starting to settle on the grass and cars now. I've introduced DD3 (age 8) to the delights of lamp post watching!

Oybbk do you think central Scotland will be affected....I know you said it's a different system but hoping for some lovely snow while we have no where to go!Xmas Smile

This low pressure does seem to be moving through faster than forecast. Unfortunately this increases the ice risk for the morning.

Got a covering here in West Midlands. The snowfall is slowing though.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 26/12/2014 17:36

Someone asked about Flintshire - reports from another forum suggest its mayhem with stuck cars? any corroboration to that?

Loads of snow on the wirral! And it's sticking.

AnnieLobeseder · 26/12/2014 17:46

We weren't expecting snow at all, we're up just outside Manchester visiting family. But then I started reading this thread, thought to myself "ooh, maybe we'll get snow after all", and just then my cousin's DH walked in covered in snowflakes. So now DD1 is out dancing in it! Grin

threepiecesuite · 26/12/2014 17:48

Snowing in St Helens, Merseyside.

DD, who has not taken off her Elsa dress since 7am yesterday morning, is delighted that she has 'set off an eternal winter' Smile

We have had enough wet sticky snow to build a big snowman in the dark in an area of Cheshire which often avoids the snow even when it n the hills a couple of miles up the road!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 26/12/2014 17:58

Yay Annie!

I have never seen such huge snowflakes!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 26/12/2014 17:59

The position and travel direction of the low does mean that it's hitting often snow starved places in the west :)

Please can I have just a little?
