Well, the moment has come

The 19th December - when many kids break from school has appeared in the GFS charts.....

I'm going to do my best to update this at least once each day, but bear with me if life interferes a bit. My usual disclaimer: I'm only an amateur and I get things wrong. I dont say this out of false modesty but because its true and for important forecasts and for making decisions please refer to the met office.

Also at this range the forecast will be complete crap anyway and will change daily. As we get closer to the Christmas holidays other models will come into range and things will start to become more accurate - hopefully!

So:

Friday 19th (GFS) - The day starts off cold with temps around freezing. Some precipitation but it looks to err on the wrong side of frozen (ie not). Europe isnt looking cold for this time of year and so we are looking to our north and north west for the cold at this point.
That's as far as the model goes Xmas Grin but later in the day I would expect it to end up in single fig temps. Might update this on the next model run.

v frosty just a few miles down the road from you manky.

PestoStormissimos · 06/12/2014 10:20

Thick frost down here on the Downs just outside Brighton Xmas Smile

MixenLane · 06/12/2014 11:10

It was very frosty and sunny here - south Cheshire - earlier this morning. It's now gone cloudy and actually looks like it could snow, Xmas Shock but I don't think any rain/snow is forecast here today.

educatingarti · 06/12/2014 11:20

Frosty here (West Manchester) and getting ver ydark, but not quite a "snow sky"!

EauLittleRougeofBethlehem · 06/12/2014 11:37

Frosty here in East Anglia and a bit of ice in the garden. I don't know whether to hope for a white Christmas or not; the DDs would really enjoy it, but DH is Canadian and is insufferably smug at the UK's inability to cope with a couple of inches of snow.

MixenLane · 06/12/2014 12:11

The cloud I reported an hour ago has actually brought in warmer temperatures and everything is now defrosting nicely. The sky isn't as heavy as it was and now I think I can safely forecast that it's not going to snow here today!

Millli · 06/12/2014 14:18

Naeko I live in that remote cottage on the North Wales hillside. Veryvery cold here.

Millli · 06/12/2014 14:49

There is snow forecast on Snowdon for Sunday night and then continuously for next week.

Millli · 06/12/2014 14:50

PanISAButterfly - DS1 has trained on the 4G pitches there as part of City in the Community - he was really impressed by the facilities!

Manchester was cold today - Gluhwein was very welcome.
