Sooooo close but just not far East enough............( mutters to self Why did I move back to Edinburgh, when I used to live further West and North??? )

Ice warning too for tomorrow for all of Scotland and Northern Ireland.
It's gone wintery this week, proper December weather, cold, frost.....now all we need is a proper storm.......oh wait, that's next week Grin

ChippingInAutumnLover · 04/12/2014 21:03

None forecast for here. It is bloody freezing tonight though. The heating has been on since 5.30 and it hasn't got to 17 yet! FGS. Brrrrrrrrr

OhYouBadBadKitten · 04/12/2014 21:04

It feels wintery all the way down here too, doing a lot better than last winter!

Sunday is still looking potentially snowy for the western side of Scotland (away from coastal areas) It looks pretty messy though, so take care. I can't get the UKMO data up at present which is irritating, but GFS has it more showery in nature and less about persistent snow - I will update later when I have more data.

Oh, exciting!! Grin

Thank you for signposting me to the thread, Kitten Brew

OhYouBadBadKitten · 05/12/2014 07:50

You are welcome :) We also have the Wednesday storm thread going on.

No weather at all then it all happens at once!

I know, I've not visited this section for ages as it's been so benign.....Beautiful blue sky morning and 4C atm.

PacificDogwood · 05/12/2014 13:50

I've just returned home from the nursery run and have passed a grittier who was actually gritting - so clearly something frosty is expected!
I'm in suburban central Scotland.

TopazRocks · 05/12/2014 18:39

Was there not actual snow on the M74 today? We are further north and have white mountains in the distance now. It looks very pretty. Smile

OhYouBadBadKitten · 06/12/2014 07:43

You'll need a local report for that Topaz :) Its reassuring to hear the mountains are as they should be at this time of year!

I think the met office need to extend their warning further east. Their own output shows snow affecting central and eastern areas right into Edinburgh.

It could be a bit of a messy transition to snow and those in western coastal lowland areas may not really see any but as the day goes on the rain will quickly and increasingly turn to snow. Central areas (ie east of Fort william) look to get a really proper snowy day.
Maybe some general snow showers about on Monday.

SE.
1st frost of the season, -1.2 last night and grass still all white despite being sunny. Perhaps because there is no breeze?
It does feel much colder than the temp says it is. Confused

TopazRocks · 06/12/2014 15:33

Sorry, that was more a rhetorical question triggered by PD's nursery run comment! I assume she is in area round M74 (ish) and I did hear about snow on M74 on Radio Scotland. Smile

PacificDogwood · 06/12/2014 15:36

Topaz, you're right wrt my location.

Nothing frosty here, just horrid wet and windy and not that cold, but the kind of damp cold that gets right in your bones Hmm

TopazRocks · 06/12/2014 15:49

Yeah, thank heavens for adipose tissue, eh? Grin

PacificDogwood · 06/12/2014 20:13

Of which I have plenty! Grin

Hulababy · 06/12/2014 20:17

No! I don't want snow. We are in Sheffield but pretty high up (over 1000ft so one of highest parts of Sheffield.)

I hate driving in snow (I can't drive in snow) but I need to get to work. But the walk takes forever (abt 3-4 miles) and my knees and ankles just can't do it! And the cold makes my arthritis hurt so much!

I really hope none comes, or if it does, it is either (a) very light and gone by the morning or (b) so heavy and thick schools are closed and I don't have to try

stargirl1701 · 06/12/2014 20:20

Cairngorm and Nevis both have snow but no ski-ing yet. Maybe Nevus after tomorrow! Grin

feelingdizzy · 07/12/2014 07:54

Woken up to 2-3 cm here in the Cairngorms, was really coming down a while ago eased off now.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/12/2014 08:00

Beautiful :)

As soon as dh wakes up I'll be able to go down and do a spot of forecasting. I don't want to disturb him.

It seems to behaving very much as expected so far. Edinburgh could see some snow later on today as could parts of Cumbria and Northumberland.

Heavy snow in central Scotland is expected.

It looks like we'll get some snow here in Rossendale today, and the strong winds on Wednesday too!

PacificDogwood · 07/12/2014 09:29

It's just started snowing here! Grin

very wet, rainy snow, but snow nonetheless, children are beside themselves

Perihelion · 07/12/2014 13:04

Sleet earlier and hail just now, so there will have been snow further inland, as I'm so close to the Forth. Grin

nannynick · 07/12/2014 13:26

Little bit of snow at my mums home this morning. In Caringorms National Park, east side. So not unusual fir this time of year but it is first snow of the season. Mountains got more snow looking at Glenshee webcam.

ouryve · 07/12/2014 16:14

We had a few flakes of the stuff in East Durham, this morning, despite it not even being forecast. Our house is 500ft above sea level, mind and it's not been unheard of for there to be snow on the ground in our village and no sign of it in the surrounding area.
