Keeping a small eye on Sunday/Mondays weather

It probably won't come off but I'm keeping a bit of an eye on Sunday and Monday.

Models show remnants of hurricane Bertha coming close to our shores and develop them in different ways. It's hard (for me) to de tangle which bit are Bertha but the results are, either nothing to worry about at at all (most likely scenario) or some potentially wild and wooly weather as two of the models develop some pretty tight gradient lows for this time of year.

GFS takes it across northern Scotland bringing windy weather to the north, ECMWF brings it across southern and central England bringing windy weather to the south. UKMO just produces a slack low which could bring in plenty of rain.

Will update with developments.

When we phoned on Friday to ask if cancellation was likely they said no, highly UNLIKELY to be cancelled..

OhYouBadBadKitten · 09/08/2014 21:09

Oh dear. Well perhaps the sea won't have got rough yet.....
I'm slightly wary of early cancellations esp since heathrow cancelled lots of flights recently when the severe thunder storms were forecast and they missed heathrow entirely!

oh i thought Dorset was going to be batterred at dawn, maybe not then

HumphreyCobbler · 09/08/2014 21:19

Good luck everyone. May the storm pass us by.

I suppose they cancel early just because cancelling late would cause such utter chaos. Catamarans are rubbish in a rough sea too, aren't they?

We've had a beautiful day here (south coast) and I've been out in the garden mowing lawns and weeding. There still isn't a breath of wind but there is quite a big black cloud coming over so maybe it's the calm before and all that. I hope it won't be too bad as my poor horse is out with no rug or anything as it was just too hot earlier to put one on him. I'm thinking it can't be worse than the storm we had a couple of weeks ago with hailstones that destroyed my greenhouse and bike hut. We still have no telly thanks to the lightning strike!

I suppose the hurricane is expected to be over by Tuesday? I hope so as it's the peak of the Perseids meteor shower and I've been really looking forward to it.

ouryve · 09/08/2014 21:36

We've had the wind in the northeast, today, Pixel! Had to rescue a few plants that went over and didn't bother putting washing out because there was so much dust blowing about from the fields.

Thank you OYBBK

Dd is on her way home from vietnam tonight, due to land at heathrow at 6.am. I selfishly hope the winds will stay away until she's landed saftey.

Whilst she was over there, they had the tale end of a rather nasty hurricane -Rammasun, which caused death and destruction in the Philippines.

Storms seem to be following her around!

Bakeoffcakes · 09/08/2014 21:59

It's still very calm here in hants too.

JerseySpud · 09/08/2014 22:10

Its rough as fuck here in Plymouth

OhYouBadBadKitten · 09/08/2014 22:13

It's hard to imagine all change over night isn't it.

I'll just clarify that although there are some tropical characteristics to this storm (vaguely) it's not a hurricane. I know its pedantic but I don't want to offend hurricanes! It has got the moist air and the warmth left over from Bertha but it really is her left overs interacting with other features.

Pixel that was an unfortunate lightning strike!

Slightly unfortunate timing for the full moon and the perseids (but I've not looked at when the moon rises) after tomorrow's storm there should be some good clearing behind it, though there might be some thunderstorms following. The skies might be pretty good for some in the south tomorrow night.

In Bournemouth we have nothing , not a breath of wind, no rain and it's still very warm.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 09/08/2014 22:22

Not too bad here at the moment. Drizzling a bit but not too windy. Guessing that isn't going to last long if it's bad in Plymouth now.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 09/08/2014 22:27

raintoday radar will give you an idea as to where the rain has reached.

Lovely moon tonight. Think the moon's going to be in the way for the Persieds. Saw a few meteors a couple of weeks ago with a pal who'd never seen a shooting star before Smile
