from the met office

They are very broad based at the moment because as is ever with thunderstorms, you can have all the right conditions for them but actually predicting whether and where they will trigger is a big challenge.

Warning is for torrential rain as a result of thunderstorms which may also bring hail and strong wind.

OOh is that a little something heading in my direction - according to the lightning map Smile - thank goodness I had a nap earlier.

Oh my goodness, it has come back to Kent with a vengeance! Back to back, blinding sheet lightening. I've never seen anything like it. I can't sleep, so am watching the show, trying not to obsess about the house being struck by lightening.

springlamb · 19/07/2014 03:05

Very bad here on Romney Marshes. Alarms going off and hail absolutely walloping the roof windows.

KentOwl · 19/07/2014 03:07

Some of the flashes are lighting up the sky for 5, 6, 7 seconds or more, continuously! Amazing! Rolling thunder and lots of rain now, too.

springlamb · 19/07/2014 03:11

It's quietening down here now but I see from the lightning map there's another lot coming over the Channel.
We have tickets for the wildlife heritage foundation at smarden tomorrow, hope the big cats haven't been too distressed!

misstiredbuthappy · 19/07/2014 03:22

Just started in North Wales

springlamb · 19/07/2014 03:25

Next lot is upon us now. More tea methinks...

Jellymum1 · 19/07/2014 03:27

started at 2.44 in manchester. I was feeding dd2 and the room lit up! rolling thunder and a few big bangs toward the end. the lightning was very bright sheet lightning ive not seen it likw that in the uk for a while. its still going at 3.25 now but seems to be petering off. I have a mahoosive tree in my garden which makes me a little nervous!

misstiredbuthappy · 19/07/2014 03:29

The rains torrential here. The thunders right above us now.

dawndonnaagain · 19/07/2014 04:51

Hurrah! The lightening is recharging the garden lights and then the thunder comes and puts them out!

JillJ72 · 19/07/2014 05:21

Woken up to rain. Tempted to stand out in it although it's warm outside! Very still.

mankyscotslass · 19/07/2014 05:56

We were woken at 3 am by the loudest clap of thunder I have heard in a while. Then the lightning started. It was spectacular.

DS1 woke with it but went back to bed.

The storm rumbled on for another hour, then at 4 am I was just nodding off when round two started. This time DS2 woke crying and ended up in our bed til 4.45. My alarm for getting up went off at 5.15. It is going to be a very long 7-7 shift today!

I should be careful what I wish for! Grin

oldsilver · 19/07/2014 06:04

Nope, definitely don't need to water the garden.

It's been a tad stormy, you know Grin DP, DS and me are currently all in my bed watching the storms coming up Grin

digerd · 19/07/2014 06:49

S.Herts.
Was woken about 3.30am with rain which stopped and started until now.
Didn't hear any thunder or see any lightning but the house is already suffocatingly stifling and outside is 20 already.
Just off now to walk the dog and hope for no more downpours.

FeministStar · 19/07/2014 06:49

Torrential rain in south wales.

SpottyTeacakes · 19/07/2014 06:52

It doesn't seem much cooler here today. That rain was really heavy though!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 19/07/2014 06:55

I've managed to slot in between the storms with them east and west of me. Plenty of rain but it's very very humid. Well done manky!

Just going to check out the prospects for the rest of the day....

We didn't get any storms here oybbk either. I'm off to winchester today (to pick up my wedding dress!!) am I going to get drenched? Met office seems to think not...

OhYouBadBadKitten · 19/07/2014 07:02

Spotty you might do! A whole vertical line of storms heading north from France some of these might decay but it's quite possible that after an interlude there may be a fresh set of storms initiate.

Reminder of lightning map

Mckayz · 19/07/2014 07:04

OYBBK, is there any chance of storms in North Yorkshire? We always seem to miss out while everyone else has the fun!

SpottyTeacakes · 19/07/2014 07:06

Hmm I'm hoping to be in and out, possibly some lunch. It's hard to know what to wear when it's so muggy but going to rain, swimsuit maybe?!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 19/07/2014 07:07

For those who've asked about farnborough, it looks like it could be dry for some of the morning and early afternoon but perhaps stormy from mid afternoon. Huge amount of uncertainty over that forecast. Currently looking much better tomorrow.
