from the met office

They are very broad based at the moment because as is ever with thunderstorms, you can have all the right conditions for them but actually predicting whether and where they will trigger is a big challenge.

Warning is for torrential rain as a result of thunderstorms which may also bring hail and strong wind.

Mckayz, certainly no guarantees but I wouldn't rule out storms later, it is possible.

Spotty I'd go for shorts, rather have wet legs than soggy trousers/skirts!

Second storm hit us here in Kent about 3am. Another spectactular one. Ended up sharing the bed with a hot and sweaty and wriggly 4 yr old.
Managed about 4 hours sleep last night.

Kitten, any thoughts on Kent today? I think im bracing myself for dds party indoors today arent I. Sad Sad

OhYouBadBadKitten · 19/07/2014 07:36

Pigley, I would prepare to do so but be optimistic, you might find the next batch come west of you. No promises though! Last night showed how it's very much a case of looking at the radar and extrapolating but new cells can pop up seemingly out of nowhere.

Thanks Kitten, Dd is having an animal party where someone is bringing different types of animals for the children to meet. Looks like we will be having a pot belly pig wandering our house! Shock

SpottyTeacakes · 19/07/2014 07:59

Pigley can I come?!

ethelb · 19/07/2014 08:00

Piggychez we are London/kent borders at it hit us at 4am. V loud!

ethelb · 19/07/2014 08:01

Im in Se london. Can i go to the allotment for an hour and not ve struck by lightening?

springlamb · 19/07/2014 08:03

We have tickets for the wildlife heritage foundation at Smarden. Got to do it as they're only open about 2 days a year! Their website is reporting some damage there.
But frankly after the night we just had here in the Romney Marshes I just want to floomp on the sofa.
OYBBK, i think we'll be ok till mid afternoon here? Then possibly more storms? Or is my sleep-deprived brain too foggy to work it out.

Ledkr · 19/07/2014 08:05

We had storms at 1 and then again about 3ish, not as loud as Thursday night but still bad. The heat reached epic proportions too, I have had very little sleep and have a headache.

MegBusset · 19/07/2014 08:12

We had spectacular thunder & lightning at 5am ( Norfolk) but very little rain and it 's still very humid. Planning a morning at thr beach where hopefully it 'll be fresher, hopefully will have a few hours before round 2!

ethelb · 19/07/2014 08:20

Hmmm, thunder and lightning and v heavy rain here again now. I need to get to the lottie at some point this am!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 19/07/2014 08:41

Pigley, that sounds splendid!!

Really don't want people making critical decisions on my say so today! Spring, I'm not sure. I think the storms over France are dying off as they approach the channel for the moment, so I'm hopeful you will be ok but not really very sure!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 19/07/2014 08:42

I think still there will be a renewed outbreak later this afternoon.

Village Rushbearing festival here this weekend Sad
We got hit with a biblical storm at around 3.30 this morning, half of the dancers have travelled the length of the country to attend. And are camping out!
As are the local Brownie pack Confused poor little things, I hope they got to dry ground.
Up to 80% chance of rain all day here and the same tomorrow. Lovely.

WhereTheWildlingsAre · 19/07/2014 08:48

I am now completely addicted to the lightning map!

magimedi · 19/07/2014 08:54

Near Eastbourne & we had a storm at 8pm last night that took a while to brew, was very violent for about half an hour & then rumbled on until about 11pm. Was woken in the night by torrential rain & a couple of very loud thunder claps. 20C here now & grey & muggy.

Scout19075 · 19/07/2014 09:00

We've got another storm, here. SmallBoy and I are at the local coffee shop in town. MrScout is tracking the lightening strikes and said their tracking directly towards our town. Needless to say DB and are not leaving the coffee shop until it passes!

We had some wild ones last night that whipped things out through our open bathroom window out onto the sidewalk and street. I didn't realize this and closed the windows when I heard it starting overnight.

InElectricDreams · 19/07/2014 09:05

Is there any hope of it picking up in Liverpool? Torrential rain right now and it's summer fair Hmm this afternoon. Had the thunderstorm at 3-4 am.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 19/07/2014 09:12

InElectric, I'm not entirely hopeful for you.
