They are very broad based at the moment because as is ever with thunderstorms, you can have all the right conditions for them but actually predicting whether and where they will trigger is a big challenge.

Warning is for torrential rain as a result of thunderstorms which may also bring hail and strong wind.

This is about 45 mins after the first one

Kent here....really impressive here.....lightning every 3-4 seconds and great rumbles of thunder....only a few spots of rain so far and gusts of wind.

I keep staring out of window and getting distracted from masterchef!

I take it, it's not worth watering my vegetables tonight then? Rather muggy Bristol, beautiful red sky developing nicely.

We saw some storms in the distance last night, presumed they were out Baff way, we just got the heavy rain and strong winds.

I would also like to know what the weather looks like for Farnborough Air Show, will it be a no fly zone for most of the day? We have friends coming for the day and a picnic planned Thank you

Evenstar, impossible to say at present but it is possible there could be disruptive storms. Don't cancel yet but do check in before you set off. I'll try and do an update by 8am.

Thunder and lightening here now. Cat came running in but doesn't seem scared. My other cat is AWOL [worried].

We had a couple of excellent storms last night, almost continuos lightning and thunder for about an hour, then just lightning and then the thunder came back. Between 2and 4 am. Rain too and lots of wind.

Ok so we hot the electrical storm. Impressive.

I have no idea how this development which wasn't in any of the models will affect things over night and into tomorrow. Really no clue.

All quiet in N Surrey. We had a little rain earlier and saw one flash in the distance.

Still muggy as hell though.
