Weather warnings part 3 - February storms.

Really hoped we wouldnt need another thread so soon.

Tomorrow we have one dangerous storm with winds potentially 90mph off welsh coasts, 80mph inland and hitting Ireland very hard too.

met office warnings for heavy rain (exactly where we dont need it but also hitting western scotland), snow, perhaps even down to lower ground at times over night even pretty far south and storm force winds. Also widespread gales across England.

Then friday night into Saturday we have another potentially damaging low. The models have really struggled with this one and it needs a careful eye keeping on it.

Because the winds look so bad tomorrow for some (enough in the amber areas for me to suggest that you consider whether your journey is essential), I'll be logging on around 7:15am to update. My biggest concern is western Wales in the afternoon. However the track may change as the storm develops so the amber warning area may shift. It is possible that the met office may issue some red warnings close to the morning.

Looking further on, although storms may track to their more usual position (north of scotland) as the month goes on, unfortunately the rain looks set to continue, with little in the way of respite.

Clear sky but 1 degree only . Doves not cooing yet.

Marne · 21/02/2014 08:28

Sun is out in Dorset ( about time ), looks like more showers not he way though. Trying to look on the bright side of this wet winter, our fuel bills are down as it hasn't been cold and I am putting less fuel into my car as I can't get anywhere ( well I could but I don't really want to drive through lots of water so we choose to stay in), on the down side, our food bill is higher as dd2 keep seating because she's bored of staying in Grin.

Beautiful morning here (Leicester) and 5.4C. Was a chilly night though ~ down to 2.1C at 3.40am. Only sign of birds in my garden at the moment is a trail of feathers and a rather dazed looking wood pigeon after a run in with a local cat. I'm keeping an eye on the little guy as I've chased the cat off twice already this morning.

new weather warnings for the NW for heavy rain especially over Sunday. This could affect north Wales as well as NW England. Some high rainfalls expected.

Widespread gales too :( maybe 60-70mph along exposed western coasts, 40-50mph across much of England and Wales for a while on Sunday.

Grrr.

When I saw the size of the wind arrows on the lunchtime weather forecast, I thought some weather warnings might be issued in those areas.
And so this horrible winter carries on.

Seen snowdrops, mini daffs and roses sprouting new leaves. Early flowering Prunus trees which bloom before the leaves appear are half heartedly blooming . Think they don't feel quite sure if it's a good idea Hmm

digerd · 21/02/2014 18:24

ps sunny all day today but think it's supposed to rain again later.

Nocomet · 21/02/2014 20:43

Grin the Seven has finally got off the road, fields flooded into the distance, but no H2O on the road!!!

digerd · 22/02/2014 07:14

3 degrees and a clear sky this morning. A loud clang/clonk woke me up at 3am. If it was the heating it has never done that before Confused

mankyscotslass · 22/02/2014 09:22

Grey skies and raining in Renfrewshire today.

Heavy rain forecast for the drive back to Manchester. Sad

The M74 and the higher stretches of the M6 are going to be interesting. Confused

Children playing out in just jumpers, doors and windows all open and a sunny sky - very different to last week!

Feels spring like in North Kent today?

digerd · 22/02/2014 15:09

S Herts.
12 degrees out but heating still on to keep my sitting room at 19.5.

SpottyTeacakes · 22/02/2014 15:20

Bloody gorgeous here. 10 degrees slightly chilly wind but the sun is shining!!

magimedi · 22/02/2014 15:23

Just lovely here , East Sussex. Went for a walk along the front at Eastbourne & lots of families picnicing on the beach! Daffs out, (tete a tete) crocus everywhere & a few leaves just uncurling on hawthorn hedge! Far too early - it does worry me a little.

NumptyNameChange · 22/02/2014 15:26

northamptonshire here. getting little overcast spells but really it's been lovely yesterday and today. due to go wrong tomorrow but feeling so springlike and lovely.

GloriaSmud · 22/02/2014 17:36

Leicester here and another area that's had a lovely day. We've been to a National Trust place today and it was really busy ~ DH and I were saying that it's been such a miserable winter, everyone's just glad to be able to get out when it's a nice. We were able to have a picnic and the sun had some real warmth to it.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 22/02/2014 18:34

Gorgeous here too :)

I've had one of those oops days though. Been very very very busy since early. Didnt notice the forecast had changed. Been busy telling neighbours it's going to be wet tomorrow. It's not.

Well anyway, it will be nice surprise for them when it isn't.

overcast atm but clouds breaking into lighter bits. Hoping the sun will appear for am dog walk before 10amHmm

LostInWales · 23/02/2014 13:29

It's horrible here, rain and rain and rain and really strong wind. The carpet is lifting in the lounge so it must be gusting into the cellar and up through the floor boards.

Meglet · 23/02/2014 23:38

OYBBK does the weather look like it's going to be settling down in the South for the foreseeable future? I haven't bothered to repair my fence until there was a chance it would actually stay up for more than a week.

One part of our town is still flooded. I drove past the estate today, cones and police tape everywhere Sad.

digerd · 24/02/2014 07:20

SE.
We had drizzle on and off yesterday until around 4pm when the sun peeped through. Temp rose to 13 and dipped to 6 in the night.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 24/02/2014 08:06

Hi Meglet, it does - with the caveat that theres a little low pressure showing up on GFS this morning which skims the south on Friday. It will probably be fine, but if it tracks north a bit it could become a bit of an issue. Next week looks much more settled.

Thanks oybbk. I was holding back arranging a fence repair date until I thought we might be out of the worst of it. Especially as I have a buyer for this place, it's bad enough having to shell out for a new fence that I won't be around to 'enjoy', I'd rather not do it twice in my last months here.

It's beautiful today Smile.
