Weather warnings part 3 - February storms.

Really hoped we wouldnt need another thread so soon.

Tomorrow we have one dangerous storm with winds potentially 90mph off welsh coasts, 80mph inland and hitting Ireland very hard too.

met office warnings for heavy rain (exactly where we dont need it but also hitting western scotland), snow, perhaps even down to lower ground at times over night even pretty far south and storm force winds. Also widespread gales across England.

Then friday night into Saturday we have another potentially damaging low. The models have really struggled with this one and it needs a careful eye keeping on it.

Because the winds look so bad tomorrow for some (enough in the amber areas for me to suggest that you consider whether your journey is essential), I'll be logging on around 7:15am to update. My biggest concern is western Wales in the afternoon. However the track may change as the storm develops so the amber warning area may shift. It is possible that the met office may issue some red warnings close to the morning.

Looking further on, although storms may track to their more usual position (north of scotland) as the month goes on, unfortunately the rain looks set to continue, with little in the way of respite.

15 degrees in the shade and sunny all morning sofarSmile. Lake in the playing fields is much smaller but not completely disappeared yet. Still sticking to paved areas on dog walks as grass still too squelchy.

Clouded over now and got more breezy but very mild.

Meglet · 26/02/2014 09:28

Are strange things afoot this weekend? Maybe some snow in certain areas?

Obviously it's going to get cold now, it's March.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 26/02/2014 10:07

Maybe a little sleet and snow on the back edge of the front on Saturday, more so over hilly areas, especially in Wales.

Beautiful this morning and saw a Camelia in bloom and the air smells of spring Smile

ErrolTheDragon · 26/02/2014 12:06

We went for a walk this morning, started off nice but then very heavy rain - poor wet dog, he doesn't have a goretex coat. But daffodils in bloom, and I saw a camellia too - this is at the northern end of Lancashire. Lots of birdsong and ducks in fine feather. Smile

digerd · 27/02/2014 07:16

We had friends in Yorkshire who loved to visit London and they said we were 2 weeks ahead of them with blooms. March is the usual time for Daffs and April for Tulips. Camelias vary .
This morning has been raining and the mud on the dog walks was just drying out yesterdaySad

snow warnings for many central parts tomorrow Grin

I think it's going to be a really messy situation tomorrow. Even in low laying areas people on central and northern England and parts of Wales could wake up to some snow tomorrow morning but it may well be wet slushy heavy stuff. Higher ground is where you are more likely to see some accumulations. I'd mostly count on hassle and delay rather than winter wonderland for the majority of people.

Have to stress that the probability is pretty low though. I am at present uncertain as to why the met office have issued a warning for it.

OP posts:
OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/02/2014 08:03

In fact, I'm really uncertain!!! Maybe perhaps in the South Wales, west of Bristol area but I can't even see the precip they are talking about!

OP posts:
OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/02/2014 08:13

My final thought before work is that perhaps the snow risk will be further south than the met office warnings??

'Tis all very weird, those warnings. We're covered by the warning but on the 3 hourly breakdown the metoffice gives for our postcode, there's no forecast of snow. I think what we'll find is what usually happens and that's any white stuff will be over Peak District way (for our area) and all we'll see is some sleety stuff/the odd flake Sad

GloriaSmud · 27/02/2014 09:49

Netweather have got warnings too but they think more to the west of where I am, might get snow.

Marne · 27/02/2014 12:13

Rain and hail here in dorset at the moment, hope tomorrow isn't too messy as I have to drive dd to her hospital appointment and I hate driving along the top road when it's raining or snowing.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/02/2014 12:33

Met office have shrunk the warnings area to pretty much around east (not west silly brain this morning) of the Bristol area and southern Wales.

Does anyone else find the met office site really crap on the ipad? It's very frustrating at times.

I knew I shouldn't have mentioned not using any rock salt so far, the BBC map has us down for snow tomorrow & Hereford radio too.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/02/2014 19:24

It's incredibly marginal. I'm going to be really interested in seeing where does get snow tomorrow.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/02/2014 21:41

updated warnings to include gales for the far SW.

sank to 0 at 02.16 but then clouded over and rained. Now +5.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/02/2014 08:24

Any snow reports this morning?

OP posts:
Marne · 28/02/2014 09:03

Sun out here and birds are singing but starting to cloud over, just about to leave for dd's hospital appointment so hopefully it will stay dry for the drive there.

PestoSnowissimos · 28/02/2014 09:36

Sunny down here on the south coast, near Brighton. Spring-like in fact Grin
