Weather warnings part 3 - February storms.

Really hoped we wouldnt need another thread so soon.

Tomorrow we have one dangerous storm with winds potentially 90mph off welsh coasts, 80mph inland and hitting Ireland very hard too.

met office warnings for heavy rain (exactly where we dont need it but also hitting western scotland), snow, perhaps even down to lower ground at times over night even pretty far south and storm force winds. Also widespread gales across England.

Then friday night into Saturday we have another potentially damaging low. The models have really struggled with this one and it needs a careful eye keeping on it.

Because the winds look so bad tomorrow for some (enough in the amber areas for me to suggest that you consider whether your journey is essential), I'll be logging on around 7:15am to update. My biggest concern is western Wales in the afternoon. However the track may change as the storm develops so the amber warning area may shift. It is possible that the met office may issue some red warnings close to the morning.

Looking further on, although storms may track to their more usual position (north of scotland) as the month goes on, unfortunately the rain looks set to continue, with little in the way of respite.

Well we didn't lose power which I'm quite shocked about. Think the nearest place to us where they record wind gusts showed 68mph.

Hope everyone else is ok.

insomniarules · 15/02/2014 07:07

Cambridgeshire. Incredibly loud wind all night, still going. Gusts are very strong but trees still up.

BitWorriedNow · 15/02/2014 07:09

Awful all night here, no noisy. I am going to see if we have all fencing still in place. No loss of power, so I think we are lucky here.

NumptyNameChange · 15/02/2014 07:15

chickens are still there but looking a bit shell shocked bless them Grin have lost whole chunks of lovely broom, snapped close to the root.

LostInWales · 15/02/2014 07:31

Yay for the chickens Smile. Was wet and very windy here again but not a patch on Wednesday, that was something different all together. Ahh the happy in bed with coffee sigh of a woman who cancelled football on Thursday

digerd · 15/02/2014 07:32

SE.
Still having ferocious gusts but no trees fallen - only my metal self-assembled rose arch plus 2climbing roses entwined on it. The other 4 appear to be OK.
My newspaper has not been delivered yet and is late.perhaps they are not coming today.

TheGreatHunt · 15/02/2014 07:34

In London - really windy!! A woman was killed by falling rubble in central London :(

digerd · 15/02/2014 07:38

ps.
Too scared to go out with little dog yet incase we get blown up and away or a tree branch falls and whacks us on the head.

LostInWales · 15/02/2014 07:43

In the summer when your rose arch is beautiful again and well anchored will you post us a picture? My smallest dog is cwtched up with me in bed after I came home last night to find my hall carpet looking like a massacre and her with a huge bandage on, poor lovely girl, why is it they always manage to hurt themselves when someone else is in charge?

JillJ72 · 15/02/2014 07:53

Chickens are ok, their plastic roof cover rearranged itself. They are complaining a lot but are OK (phew). Fence panel down. A wall (with fence) across the road has collapsed. And it's still wild outside.

GloriaSmud · 15/02/2014 07:55

Leicester signing in. Another one whose metal archway (with honeysuckle) has suffered a structural failure and will need some repairs! Was woken at 12.45 by the wind blowing right at the front of the house. Strongest gust we had was 26mph at 3.40am.

digerd · 15/02/2014 07:56

Lost
Will do Smile. Your poor little girl with a bandage on Sad.
I think the wind is abating and my newspaper has just arrived. Clouds are breaking up with blue bits but no sun atm. Still windy though.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 15/02/2014 08:01

Morning all, I see we are back online. What a time for mn to go down :(

Locally we had gusts into the 70's.

Waking up to some awful news of a partial building collapse in London killing someone.

southern areas seem to have been hit hardest which is commensurate with the forecast.

North Kent has been horrible all night, still very windy now.

Thoughts are with everyone suffering in this weather xxx

OhYouBadBadKitten · 15/02/2014 08:04

Highest reading was at the Needles (exposed location) at 109mph.

OYBBK you were missed Grin there was a post on the MN facebook page apologising you were down and a lot of the people were moaning that they neeeeeeded you!

LostInWales · 15/02/2014 08:14

NO apologising MN was down! I don't know if you were down or up or leaning awkwardly!Blush

puffinnuffin · 15/02/2014 08:15

Kent/East Sussex border- very windy last night. There must be trees down/damage as it seemed worse than Wednesday here.

We have just had a massive hail storm, when I looked outside it looked like it had been snowing (but it was just hail).

What seems strange about these winter storms is that they don't have much thunder and lightening (not that I would like thunder and lightening!).

OhYouBadBadKitten · 15/02/2014 08:16

Grin @ apologising that I was down. Perhaps I need an auto message of my own when I'm knackered!

Nice to be missed :) it was rubbish timing though, I bet the weather was making a lot of people anxious.

SpottyTeacakes · 15/02/2014 08:16

Hailing

puffinnuffin · 15/02/2014 08:16

Sorry I meant Wednesday here- obviously no comparison to Wales and other parts which seem just horrendous. We have got off lightly in comparision.

SnakeyMcBadass · 15/02/2014 08:20

South Derbyshire, and we've been awake most of the night as the wind tears around the house. Scary loud.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 15/02/2014 08:21

puffin, as forecast it was very much worse in your area last night than it was on wednesday. Actually it was similar in wind gusts to some of the eastern areas of wednesdays 'red zone'.

Will try and chat about winter/summer storms and convection later if I get the chance :)

It's now bright sunshine! This weather is so weird.
