Going to be an eventful few days. Have been discussing it in te Christmas weather thread but I think they need highlighting. met office warnings

OP posts:
OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/01/2014 19:10

I would absolutely heed the warnings about staying away from the coast in the SW tomorrow and really along much of the west and south coasts.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/01/2014 19:18

And to add to everyones joy, if you are in central southern England and parts of the SE then please be aware that there may be some very heavy rain indeed developing early Sat morning. If you live near a river and are prone to flooding then please prepare for the possibility.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/01/2014 19:21

GFS has estimates of 25mm of rain in 6 or so hours for CS England and parts of the SE. It ends to over do the rain sometimes but nevertheless, that is a lot of rain. To contrast, that is approx what we had on NYD across the whole day.

TwllBach · 02/01/2014 19:22

I have a job interview in London on Tuesday, leaving Wales on Monday and hoping to return on Tuesday... probably not a good idea?

And to think I moaned when we had that hot spell last year Grin

OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/01/2014 19:26

I don't think it will be very fun Twll and you might need to swim there. Gusts to around 50-60mph on Monday. Wouldnt plan to get a coastal train Confused

Met office are going for thunderstorms in the SE on tuesday!

denialandpanic · 02/01/2014 19:26

those rainfall totals are quite horrid considering the state of rivers around here.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/01/2014 19:28

There is no where to put it is there? It would be a true use of the word 'dire'.

This is the least fun forecasting I've had.

GloriaSmud · 02/01/2014 19:29

Guardian report here ~ the Guardian might have a live blog going tomorrow on travel disruption etc which I've found with the other storms we've had, is usually more up-to-the minute than the one on the BBC website.

TwllBach · 02/01/2014 19:29

Eeek, I'll be driving, which is even worse.

Maybe I will give it a miss...

nemno · 02/01/2014 19:34

These latest frequent powercuts have reminded me why I should stay with a gas hob and not be seduced by induction! And we must keep our multifuel burner that heats the water too.

But no way round having to put up with a camping loo whenever our garden floods as the drains don't work. Which, if Berkshire is central south England, might be very soon.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/01/2014 19:43

You found us Gloria :)

sadly nemno, yes, that is you.

Twll, dont cancel yet. I think driving wise it will be like the morning of New Years eve if that helps?

We're OK atm, but a mile or so down the road, the flooding is awful. I've never seen it so bad (River Mole/Wey areas), if we get more heavy rain this weekend, it will be very nasty.

Now I have to go persuade my parents not to drive down to Cornwall first thing tomorrow morning, might not be the best idea.

Hope you are OK kitten. And thank you again for your forecasts.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/01/2014 20:47

I'm ok ladycelia, thank you :)

Marne · 02/01/2014 20:48

Getting windy here (doors rattling), we are on Amber warning (due to being next to the river) but luckily we are on a hill, just means we wont be able to get out due to the roads flooding around us, I don't need to go anywhere until sunday (and if its too bad then we don't really need to go out ), its just frustrating that we have spent the past 2 weeks stuck indoors Sad

youarewinning · 02/01/2014 21:22

Flipping Eck Shock just caught up with latest weather forecasts. The flood warnings over the whole south themselves are actually making this more worrying now. Really could not do with this weather and the high tides and storm surges all at once.

A colleague of mines husband works for EA on flood defenses. They have all been asked to take on on call duties this weekend.

Keep safe everyone. I'm due to meet a friend tomorrow for lunch but may be delaying that if there's floods as predicted.

aliciaflorrick · 02/01/2014 21:30

I'm in south west Brittany and have been flooded very badly since Christmas Eve, water was at waist height in my house today and the current running through the house is dreadful all my appliances are floating everywhere. I've lost everything downstairs and it's still raining outside, I really wish it would stop now.

SpottyTeacakes · 02/01/2014 21:31

Sad Alicia

CiderwithBuda · 02/01/2014 21:31

Supposed to be flying from Dublin to Bristol tomorrow. Not looking forward to it!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/01/2014 21:50

Alicia :( I am so sorry. I can't imagine what you are going through.

youarewinning · 02/01/2014 21:57

alicia so sorry to hear that. Sad

We are fine here but likely roads will flood making getting about difficult. Hoping not to wake up to a helicopter evacuation down the road like previous times!
