kitten, kids have pantomime in Winchester Sunday pm, is the weather more north /south or another everywhere storm? two out of the roads out of our village blocked by flooded roads this am, I'm glad we don't have to go anywhere. Hope all the soggyThanks houses get sorted todayThanks

denialandpanic · 02/01/2014 10:04

actually ignore my question you probably want to run away from all talk of weather at the moment.

nemno · 02/01/2014 10:18

I do hope you are ok OYMLK? I know how horrible flooding/anticipating flooding is. I feel bad for my thread now so by all means ignore it, I know many people are having to deal with the effects of this dreadful weather.
All the best.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/01/2014 11:13

Hey don't feel bad. I'll say if I don't want to answer more questions and tbh our issue is minor compared to many.

Ideally we would get some dry before some cold else there are going to be new issues for those with damaged property. Frozen water can be very damaging in the wrong places.

Will just have a quick look.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/01/2014 11:16

Sunday is an everywhere job I'm afraid.

Oricella, lots of rain on the 7th. On the 11th there is a small chance snow could be an issue.

SpottyTeacakes · 02/01/2014 13:17

I'm getting a carpet fitted next Thursday. I suppose we would be mad to put the furniture in the garden?! Grin

OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/01/2014 13:22

Does it need a wash spotty?

Might actually be just about ok Thursday but I wouldn't plan for it yet.

Pascha · 02/01/2014 13:24

NOooo. Don't say that for sunday. Its DS2's first birthday.

LostInWales · 02/01/2014 13:46

I'm going to a first birthday a bit of a drive away too on Sunday . Is it going to come in later in the day Sunday if it's moved forward a day? Please say yes Smile because that will be fine.

OYBBK, just because some people have it worse doesn't mean you can't have a grumble. It's just been so unrelenting recently. Enough to drive anyone a bit round the twist.

Pascha · 02/01/2014 13:51

Not in Kent is it?

My SIL doesn't live in wales though, so probablly not.

LostInWales · 02/01/2014 14:08

No, that would be quite a long was even though I love my nephew to bits. I'm sure you are a lovely Sil anyway Smile

SpottyTeacakes · 02/01/2014 14:56

It does need a wash, yes Grin also have to drive to Southampton Wednesday for a hospital appt Hmm

Marne · 02/01/2014 15:07

Just watching sky news, lots of weather warnings, worst areas are going to be Devon and Cornwall (sw of England going to be the worst hit) Sad.

I managed to get out today and stock up on food to get us through the weekend, roads were ok but there was water pouring onto the roads from the fields (drains seemed to be clear and doing their job), more rain coming in tonight but the worst coming at the weekend. Lets hope after this weekend things calm down a little before we get cold weather (if we get cold weather).

Pascha · 02/01/2014 15:24

Of course I am a wonderful SIL Wink. As are you I expect.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/01/2014 17:54

? Where did my post go?????
more warnings including for sunday. Deja vu anyone?

High tides are potentially going to be an issue for both storms I'm afraid, perhaps more for Sunday, but its a subject I don't know very much about.

SpottyTeacakes · 02/01/2014 18:07

It's not looking good Sad

What's everyone's power cut essentials then? We only have tea lights which, tbh, are crap. All our heating is electric too.

Pascha · 02/01/2014 18:11

Log burner
Gas hob kettle
Whisky

What else do I need?

SpottyTeacakes · 02/01/2014 18:16

Oh I wish our LL allowed an open fire Sad

Marne · 02/01/2014 18:18

We have several torches around the house (the kids have a wind up ikea torch), last time our electric went I used my ipad (light) to look for candles, we don't have a gas hob so if our electric goes there will be no coffee Smile.

Any idea what time Sunday it will hit the sw? was hoping to visit FIL, have put it off twice already and the dd's want to go, its not far away but roads are not that great at the best of times.

denialandpanic · 02/01/2014 18:33

we're getting a bit too good at power cuts in our family.

keep all electric items charged
Head touches are handy
We have wind up torches for the kids make sure you know where everything is
Have just invested in a calor gas heater
don't open the fridge or freezer if you can avoid
know where the matches are;)

I've started pouring the heat on continuous during storms that house starts off warm.luckily we can afford to heat our house.

luckily we have a gas hob and I haven't bothered re sticking the freezer since the last time I had to throw it all in the bin.

I meant to pick up some bottled water as quite a few areas locally lost water supply too over Xmas but haven't got round to it yet.

denialandpanic · 02/01/2014 18:34

Head torches

OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/01/2014 19:00

EA map to check for flood warnings in your area.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/01/2014 19:01

bbc map is pretty good too as a quick summary scroll down.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/01/2014 19:04

Our power cut kit is:
Camping stove,
gas lamp
led head torches (one by each bed side if the weather is iffy)
bigger torches.
camping kettle, pan etc
matches
little radio (batteries last forever)
instant cook stuff like couscous, tinned soup

we are also fortunate enough to have a wood burner.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/01/2014 19:06

Marne, it will be with you by 9am or so if it stays as currently forecast.
