Wallow is an unfortunate term given the weather!

Sorry OYBBK Sad

gallicgirl · 01/01/2014 14:09

Hope you're ok.
Looking a bit grim in Devon. As much as I moan about the rain, we're in a good position really.

Geckos48 · 01/01/2014 14:30

Real issues at work, winds have been knocking trees down in the forest and one of the roads has flooded.

It's hectic. I hope I get home safe tonight.

CointreauVersial · 01/01/2014 14:44

It's calm and damp in the west of Ireland at the moment. But it's always damp here!

I shall be avidly consulting this thread over the next couple of days as we are getting the Dublin to Holyhead ferry home on Saturday. We are booked on the fast one, which is generally kept in port if there is more than a breath of wind forecast.

youarewinning · 01/01/2014 17:25

One of the main roads into Portsmouth was flooded today. That just about sums up how much rain we've had here.

OYBBK - hope your Ok? I'm not on fb so none the wiser but wish you well.

LIZS · 01/01/2014 18:08

Blowing and rainy still here (SE) . Another 2 fence panels gone :(

OhYouMerryLittleKitten · 01/01/2014 19:44

None of mn is on my fb (well there are some but they don't know I'm on mn)

Probably similar issues to a lot of people with water getting into places where it really really shouldn't and no ability to stop it at present. And it keeps just chucking it down and making it all worse. I'm not looking at the moment I've delegated that to dh.

We've gained several patches of damp recently and a brand new one noticed today. Sigh.
Will have to get someone in asap to spend boring £££ to fix I'm guessing.

youarewinning · 01/01/2014 20:09

Oh - I thought you meant the MN fb page!!!!! Whoops!

Sorry to hear things are rough Sad

Marne · 01/01/2014 21:21

Hope everyone's ok, weather really bad here in Dorset, we had thunder and lightning a couple hours ago, very close, right over our house followed by heavy rain, lots of sirens as fire engines are being sent out to rescue people stuck in their cars, luckily we are on a slight hill so our house ( and most of the village ) shouldn't flood but we are stuck in the village as we were last week. Have had enough of this now, we should have snow and heavy frosts, not all this rain Sad. Please stay safe and don't go out.

OhYouMerryLittleKitten · 01/01/2014 21:25

JKS it's really rubbish isn't it :(

I need to just stick my chin in the air and best foot forward and all that. Worse things at sea.... Any more cliches that I can employ?

Marne - those poor people. It's way too much this.

Gecko - travel safely.

I'm home and safe, very scary being out in the woods, two trees had fallen on my path and I had to reverse six miles up a track before driving right round (10 miles) to a different entrance and through a flooded road! Eventually I had to abandon the car and walked about a mile on foot to my call.

But I am home now thank fuck

OhYouMerryLittleKitten · 01/01/2014 21:35

Nightmare Gecko, am really glad you made it back safely. Not the place to be in this weather.

Fridays warnings

Different focus for the v. Heavy rain, this time SW Scotland winds around western and southern coasts. Generally not nice for most though.

The problem with my job is that if you don't get there then someone doesnt get to bed and has nothing to wee into!

I did have a pretty good chat with the farmer though and arranged to meet him on his tractor a walk away from my house if it snows.

The estate where she lives is an exclusive 11000 sq acre rural wood with 24 houses dotted around it, so one of the entrances is very close to where I live and i can just about walk there.

OhYouMerryLittleKitten · 01/01/2014 22:23

Something positive out of today then :)

OP posts:
Geckos48 · 01/01/2014 23:43

Well yes it all sounds deeply exciting doesnt it, a ride down the valley on the back of a tractor! Clutching my latex gloves especially if the farmer is gorgeous

in reality it will be cold bumpy and I most certainly will need a wee, but as long as I can get to that one lady at least three times a day I am happy.

OhYouMerryLittleKitten · 01/01/2014 23:45

Your feet will be blue and your nose numb! Even with the wee factor it's still more appealing than the present weather.

Geckos48 · 01/01/2014 23:58

Well after my scramble through the woods this evening I am tending to agree with you. Husband doesn't think it will snow at al this year.

OhYouMerryLittleKitten · 01/01/2014 23:59

There is always winter 2014/15 Grin

OP posts:
TwentiethCenturyGirl · 02/01/2014 08:34

Well, you were right Kitten. The journey back from Plymouth to the North West was erm...wet. Surface water was a big problem even on the motorways. Still masses of people driving like idiots though Hmm

Sorry to hear you're having a rubbish time of it but another big thanks for all your weather threadsThanks

OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/01/2014 09:01

The rain seems to make people worse!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/01/2014 09:02

You are welcome btw :)

OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/01/2014 09:07

The storm on the 6th/7th now seems more likely to happen on the 5th/6th with perhaps severe gales on Sunday the 5th. It's not great tbh. This very unsettled pattern continues to mid month with a lot of rain in the forecast, though perhaps as we go through the second week of Jan turning more to snow up north.

Hints of some colder weather for all then appearing.

oricella · 02/01/2014 09:28

Morning Kitten, fingers crossed for some cold. Any chance the storms moving forward could be the last batch? Lots of travel dependent stuff ahead on the 7th, 9th and 11th for us that can do without disruption. Just been checking the weather for my destination and looking at more heavy rain, but at 30 degrees!

Hope things look a bit better for you this morning
